  • Stood upright for a day and a half. Quick 30 minute decant. Still a solid ruby core, fading into brick at the edges. Initially I get the expected mushroom/hoisin scents, but as this sits in the glass more aromas tease out: a stony/dusty scent. Dried cherries. Grilled herbs. A cedar/cigar interplay. Taking a taste, I'm surprised at how present the fruit is. We're talking more plummy than jammy, stewed rather than ripe, but it's still there. Still some acid left, I can't detect any tannins but I do get mint & tobacco on the lingering finish. Very much alive, if not on an upward trajectory. My first Diamond Creek, this was a real treat to drink.

  • Won at an auction and was not sure what to expect. There is still plenty of fruit. The wine is incredibly balanced. Maybe a little high on acidity. A gem for being nearly 40 years old.

  • Subsequent notes on this wine, but this time from a 1.5 format. Deep dark reddish-purple in color with ever-so-slight slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of dark fruit aromas of dark cherries, blueberries and cassis with overtones of classic cigar box notes of cedar & tobacco, floral & notes of violets, earthy/dusty, loam, leather, spices, anise, herbs, cocoa & minerals. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, herbs, dark cocoa & minerals. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present & at 36 years of age, it may be close to or at its peak of development although it may hold at its current plateau of development for a while longer. However, I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Fill was up in middle of neck, cork was clean & intact. A wonderful, aged Cabernet.

  • From magnum. This was very good and fully mature. Color was still dark with some clearing at the edge. The nose showed lovely dark fruits of cassis, baked plum, dried blueberry along with cedar, tobacco, damp earth, and dried violet. This opened and improved over the evening. The palate was excellent with great balance. The tannins are resolved but there is still nice acidity. There is a lovely long finish. Delicious

  • Top shoulder. Crumbling cork. Superb wine. Dark garnet color with slight bricking. Absolutely astounding purity of flavors. Elegant roses, refined tannins, saturated licorice, cascading complexity and an endless finish. A superb bottle.
