  • From a 1.5L. format. Deep dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of well developed, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & cassis with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, minerals, cigar box notes of cedar & aged tobacco, mint, cocoa spices & a hint of graphite & tar in the background. Full bodied, with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, mature, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, herbs, cocoa & minerals. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present & at 40 years of age, it may be at its pinnacle of development although it should hold for a bit longer. Cork was halfway stained but intact with the fill level at mid-neck.

  • Cork slipped out easily with an ah-so, coated red all the way to the top. But the wine smelled delicious with only a slight amount of funk which quickly evaporated to leave cedar and berry notes. Beautiful orange tinted ruby appearance and sexy thick legs. Wonderful mature wine still exhibiting red berry flavors, decent acidity and a beautiful long but very subtle finish on the rear and mid palate. Fully resolved and almost sweet okay tannins. Probability the best 1982 Napa cab I have had in a long time, recognizing that it was not a great California vintage as opposed to Bordeaux. Had a sirloin steak for dinner plus chocolate coated croissant and a Godiva chocolate dessert to match it. Nice!

  • Alex's Birthday Party (Yan's China Bistro, Walnut Creek, Ca.): From a magnum with a nose of briar, tar, black cherry, black berry, candied fruit, and wood, same on the palate, big body, elegant, at its best, drink up, mouth filling fruit, rich fruit, no sign of tannins, easy to sip and savor, and a long finish.

  • Off bottle. Soapy and tangy, with disjointed acid. Lacking fruit.

  • Very nice for such an old wine. A hint of Maduro cigar on the nose. Opened up nicely after 30 minutes. Still seemed to have fruit and interest. Dark chocolate tannins, with earthy blackberry notes. Excellent with steak.
