  • Cork was not in great shape - just ok enough. The wine was still quite high up the neck which was good sign. For a 53 year old it was OK. Still red (dark) and no sign of brown in colour, clear in the glass. Fruit had faded with a bit lingering in background. Typical Bordeaux tannins but a touch too much as fruit is not as pronounced. Old cigars, earthy fungi on nose and palate. It is exactly what an old Bordeaux tastes like. It would not be liked if one likes younger fruit driven wine. I think tomorrow it will have faded a bit.

  • Drunk at The Koala Bar in Hong Kong - This bottle came from a 'mixed lot' from an impeccable cellar but despite that I had low expectations. Upon opening, it was very much alive. A decent amount of acid and a pleasant sweetness of fruit greeted us. Alas, it was not to last, the structure started to crumble and that familiar talisman of old Bordeaux, iodine unfortunately began to dominate.

  • 3 liter, birth year bottle. Brownish in color. Fruit remains, but very, very thin at this point. No power whatsoever. Might have been good 20 years ago, but well past peak at this point - even in this large format.

  • Give this 30-45 mins of air and it's a lovely mature Bordeaux, cedar and tobacco and still some fruit, a grand dame
