A perfect bottle evolving over more than 3 hours in several phases. Incredible complexity despite a relative lack of depth (which is not always a minus). Amazingly young for the vintage and one of the wines of the year.

Fairly light straw yellow. Appears almost oily in the glass (but I don't sense this on the palate). Some light tropical fruit notes. Minerally, bone dry, crisp acidity, but with beautiful balance. Who would've guessed a 30 year old Bordeaux from an "off" vintage. This is beautiful and going nowhere.

A private dinner at a friend's (Amsterdam): Paired with Laville 1978. Good level. Mature appearance, correct colour for age, relatively pale even; attractive nose, more honeyed than the Laville 1978 it was paired with, but perfectly fresh and without any oxidative notes, displays the lanolin of bottle-age, smoke, lemon and flowers; the palate is very energetic and engaging, even if it is slightly on the dry and austere side; very good aromatic persistence. What remained in the bottle survived the night in the fridge effortlessly. For a 30 year old dry white wine from an off vintage this is really most impressive.

Side by side with 1987 - just slightly different, possibly a bit less deep. Worked well with Jap food

Color looks more evolved than it tastes, cones together nicely after 30mins
