  • Perhaps the most youthful of the case so far. Double decanted a couple of hours before serving. Very dark in the glass, no bricking at all. Served blind. Guesses were c. 10 years post vintage. It had a lightly pickled chestnut edge to the mature red fruits. Some sandalwood and hints of grated posh chocolate from the Merlot component. With air some beef pho hints. It was at its best half an hour after pouring and then slightly drew in on itself. Lovely wine of real richness and depth/

  • Still a wonderful, classic Bordeaux with plenty of tobacco notes, coniferous forest floor, a little mocha, remnants of a dark berry fruit, noble saddle leather and graphite; appears dark overall and rather cool in its flavour. The tannins are fine-grained and now very polished, the acidity is medium+ and very harmonious. A truly classic, excellently matured Pauillac, good bottles of which show plenty of complexity, balance and a beautiful length.

  • Mature bordeaux. Garnet red in color. Nose was predominantly pencil shavings and damp earth with a touch of dark fruit, mint, and cedar in background. Good acidity with tannins fully resolved.

  • Small supper at Noizé (Noizé, London): Opened in place of a dull 1989 Leoville Barton. Due to slightly crossed wires this was essentially splash decanted and poured. Suspect this contributed to a younger feeling and less giving wine than previous bottles in the last year. It is still joyous. Dark fruited with cedar and pencil notes. Just a spot of star anise. Palate is rich and long, tannins fully resolved and this is so more-ish. Improves with every sip. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
