Community Tasting Notes (49) Avg Score: 91.8 points

  • This followed an '89 Saint Pierre, and IMO was the far superior and more complex wine. Gorgeous red-fruited nose, oozing with raspberry, sour cherry, and strawberry aromas. The fruit is well balanced with juicy acidity, and pleasant tar, tobacco and pencil notes on the lengthy back end. Gorgeous and with a long life ahead. A stunner.

  • Subdued, classy bouquet, all Pauillac with lead pencil, leather, some spices, mint, distant sweet scents of currants. The palate is cool-fruited, refined and rounded, a touch lactic with a sneaky depth and length. Good brightness, fresh overall, with air the mintiness becomes more pronounced. Not much complexity for a 34 year old wine, but really very good, holding strong. 92+ pts.

  • With FC and AW at Noize. This was still quite youthful with perfumed blackcurrant fruit, cedar, touch of grilled meat. Medium bodied and middleweight, harmonious with soft tannins, a touch of tobacco on the palate, fresh acids, good length if not extended finish. Excellent, drinking well though no particular hurry.

  • Talking Bordeaux (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color, 3mm clear edge. PNP, drank a glass over 2 hours. Drank next to the '89 Larose. The Duhart is much more youthful, and really all about the deep black and blue fruits. Ripe and rich still, rather succulent and concentrated with a little shellac character on the finish. I don't think you'd guess the age on this. It should be quite interesting to see where this goes over time. 92+ to 93pts.

  • Garnet. Nose of a medium weight Bordeaux with age. Anise, tobacco. Taste med-thin, hint seasoned salt. Still in it’s drinking plateau but drink soon.
