  • We opened this bottle with considerable trepidation on New Year's Eve 2011 since it was suggested that the wine should be consumed by 2010 (other suggested maturity dates on some specific Napa bottles have been quite accurate, i.e., we have opened a few bottles that were definitely past their prime). However, this particular bottle was still good. This claret is not a great wine, but it is remarkably good for a price of approximately $12.00.

  • Overripe dark red fruits, toasted herbs, and coffee. Decent effort, but lacks balance and refinement.

  • An intriguing wine, both because of where it's from (this is my first Texas wine) and the unique tastes that it brought. Some traditional claret/bordeaux flavors in the front, with dark berries, but earthy on the end palate - very old world. At first I wondered why Becker produced both a Meritage (which I haven't tasted) and Claret. It must be because this is made in much more of an old world style. Not sure how much the Brummetts paid for this gift, but it's intriguing enough that I'd obtain another if the opportunity arose.

  • Unusual, even strange, without doubt. Somewhat metallic aromas followed by flavors of red licorice and stale cinnamon sticks. Has a sweetish quality that gives the impression that it could be paired with desert, even though it’s a fully dry wine. I tend to enjoy Becker's single varietals (red and white), but this blend just didn't do much for me.

  • The wine had depth and a variety of different fruit in the taste. The predominant fruit was wild boysenberry, raspberry and blackberry. The aroma brought me back to memories of eating wild fruit in the fields. We paired the wine with quail and pheasant at Tafia restaurant in Houston. Overall, too much wild fruit and needs to be refined al little more.
