Opened and quickly tasted around noon for the dinner. Tasted blind and then drunk over dinner. The first taste was disappointing, quite evolved, with signs of early oxidation. On the palate it was better, but was also showing evolved. The second pour during dinner was much better: now clean, no signs of oxidation, with the lovely complexity you expect from a Barolo of this age and this cru. The palate was powerful and assertive, with tannins still present.
This is a serious, big wine but I couldn’t coax enough from this to score it, even after a 3+ hour decant. Yet others in my blind tasting group liked it and discerned more from it. All of them thought it was still young. Two nights later the final glass started yielding a bit more after an hour in the glass, and am going to give my last bottle another 5 years at least.

Bubbles and Barolos (Serratto, Portland OR): Nose: At first, the nose was a bit tired and I was worried. This was a bottle where some air really help turn it around as it just bloomed in the glass with tones of ash, sour red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, strawberries, licorice, earth, violets, spice notes, perfumes, leather, and crushed rocks.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with Tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. This has a larger frame, but is deft and balanced with sour red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, licorice, earth, violets, spice notes, leather, and crushed rocks.
Overall: This was a bottle that turned around beautifully. It was definitely a bit tired when I first opened it and a double decant for a few hours really helped it come alive. This was drop, dead, gorgeous and really in a zone.

Nice colour, red berries and tobacco on the nose. Soft tannins. Still have some more of this wine, luckily!
