This is still quite young and although drinking nicely it remains a bit extracted and large scale. Lots of delicious density and packed with fruit, but a bit wound up and firm. Likely has more to show, but not on this night.

Served blind. Black pepper loaded up front on the nose. So much so that most at the table including Moi, guessed Syrah. Lots of red fruit along with a touch of greenery. Palate of medium weight which again supports Syrah, but the red fruit, soft tannins and acidity, do not support the Syrah varietal. For me, I want a wine that is true to the varietal and this wine will fool you, to me not indicative of a Pinot. I guess that was the point! I would have guessed it as a Syrah blend at best. 91-92 at best. I'm sure they are heads shaking back and forth all over CT with this review, but I just can't see the price point for getting into the Burgundy game.....

Notes are much the same as the last bottle. This does seem to be coming together, however. Darker fruit, big and somewhat round. Very fine tannins that are soft and lovely. Lacks the acid and overall nuance of the best bottles, but absolutely wonderful none the less. No hurries on remaining bottles

Clos Vougeot - Ech/Grand-Ech Side Tasting (Chicago): 08/02/98/04 single blind. Youthful dark cherries with subtle emerging earth tones. Silky fruit with grand cru concentration with nicely integrated fresh acidity. Seamless though still youthful and primary. Well composed with the balance to age. Good now, better in 5+ years. Pretty clearly the 2008 with its youthfulness.

Ramonet 1er Cru / Anne Gros Grand Cru Dinner (Formento's - Chicago IL): In vertical. Still firm even if not backward. Bright red fruit with subtle spice, this is certainly enjoyable and dense, just slightly lacking the enticing charm of the great vintages.
