Introduction

This was another big burg tasting that Knightsbridge put together. This time it was mostly wines that were relatively new to the store, so the focus was going to be on 06s and 07s

Flight 1 - White Burgs (10 Notes)

  • 2005 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

nose: fat nose with round tones of roasted nuts, honeydew, oils and bits of lemon peels. Good depth, but fairly tight and not giving up too much

taste: excellent medium feel with medium+ acidity and a fatness to the tones of hot oils, honeydew, bits of tropical citrus and lemon peel tones

overall: some baby fat needs to be shed from this. Very young and it was also on the tight side as well. Good balance and depth, but not much was jumping out either

  • 2006 Vincent Dancer Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

nose: tight and lighter nose of pears, peaches, bits of white fruits and some real nice white floral tones. Not too ripe, with very good balance and depth

taste: great medium feel with medium acidity and silky tones of pears, peaches, white fruits and some bits of minerals. Well balanced and holding back a slight bit

overall: could use a couple of years but doesn't seem like a long term ager. Very well balanced with a nice touch of class to it that should be real nice with a bit more age

  • 2006 Château de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

nose: tight and young with tones of peaches, tropical citrus', pears and a nice mineral undercurrant. Well balanced with very good depth, its a bit more ripe then normal, but far from overdone

taste: certainly showing its youth on the palate with very noticeable medium/high acidity and a real good medium feel with fat tones of peaches, tropical citrus, and a good bit of minerals

overall: This definitely needs a few more years. There is a lot to like in this though as the balance is very good and the tones that are showing are very nice. Its tight though and it was holding back on the palate as well

  • 2007 Benoit Ente Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

nose: clear and slightly tight nose of minerals, green apples, white fruits, and a good bit of white florals. Very well balanced, and though a bit tight, the aromatics are showing very nicely

taste: delicious medium feel with medium/high acidity and balanced tones of green apples, minerals, and a touch of white florals and pears. Not too complex right now, but good depth and with a classy side to it

overall: This certainly does need more time and should develop nicely. It shows off its terroir well and the aromatics are nice. If some more complexity is added, then this could be a real beauty of a wine

  • 2007 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

nose: very tight with some tones of white fruits, mint, and bits of white florals. Showing some decent depth, but its just very tight

taste: excellent tones of green apples, white fruits, mint and some bits of peach blossoms. Medium/high acidity shows itself on the palate and is very noticeable

overall: this is in need of some good sleep before it gets going. The acidity is powerful right now and the nose isn't offering up too much. Its showing a good base but is far from ready

  • 2007 Domaine Sylvain Langoureau Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

nose: pungent and very good nose of citrus, green apples, lemons, pears and bits of minerals. Very good depth, but holding back a bit

taste: very good medium body with medium/high acidity and round tones of green apples, lemons, minerals and a touch of citrus

overall: an excellent puligny. It needs a bit of time, but the acidity isn't too overbearing right now. With some more depth and complexity on the palate and nose this could be really good

  • 2006 Domaine Comtesse de Cherisey Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

nose: very good nose of tropical citrus, honeycomb, melons and bits of pears. Decent depth, but not showing premier cru depth

taste: nice medium feel with medium acidity and tones of tropical citrus, melons, and tones of pears. The mid-palate is a bit hollow and doesn't have that great of depth either

overall: This would be a very good village wine, but it doesn't really have the premier cru depth or quality that one would expect. Balanced with nice tones, but they are more on the ripe side without much depth

  • 2007 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumes 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

nose: lovely and hi-toned white fruits, white florals, minerals, peaches and some bits of pears. Excellent depth, though it is a bit tight right now

taste: tasty medium feel with medium+ acidity and tones of pears, bits of peaches, white fruits, and a good bit of mineral tones. Well balanced with good depth, but noticeably young

overall: this should be a real nice wine in a few years. Well balanced with a real nice nose, it just needs time to open up and show its stuff

  • 2006 Maison Champy Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

nose: nice and forward nose of tropical citrus', pears, tart lemon tones, apples and a touch of oak tones. Decent depth, but doesn't seem to have another level

taste: good medium body and medium acidity with good tones of tropical citrus, pears, apples and some bits of oak. Balanced with good tones, but slightly lacking

overall: A very good puligny, but not much more. On the more forward side and some noticeable oak takes away from the wine

  • 2007 Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

nose: deep and precise nose of oysters, flint, lemon peels, and a good amount of minerals. Great depth and holding back a slight bit right now

taste: high acidity that shreds the mid palate with great tones of crushed rocks, oysters, lemon peels and a lot of mineral tones. Great depth, but the acidity is very overbearing right now

overall: This was definitely showing the grand cru quality one would expect. It also showed the acidity that one would expect as well. This will need to sleep for a good while to calm down and let itself really open up

Flight 2 - Cote de Nuits Village and Premier Crus (21 Notes)

  • 2006 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

nose: beautiful and spiced nose with red fruits, red florals and bits of red cherries. Very aromatic and pretty right now

taste: the medium/high acidity shows off the youth of the wine with pretty and balanced tones of spices, red fruits, and red florals

overall: This is definitely young and needs some time. A very pretty village wine with excellent depth and showing off what you'd expect from vosne. This should be a real nice wine in a few years

  • 2006 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

nose: robust and dark nose of dark red fruits, dark cherries, earthen tones and some bits of spices. Good depth and showing fairly open even for its age

taste: chewy tannins and medium/high acidity with robust tones of dark cherries, spices, and dark red fruits. Showing its youth on the palate as the tannins and acidity are a bit much

overall: a quality village wine, this needs a bit of age to show off what it has. Very gevrey in character with an intensity to it, but it would've been nice to have a bit more depth with it being a VV

  • 2006 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes - Coeur de Roy 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

nose: great nose of dark red fruits, dark red cherries and earthen spices. Good depth with some power behind it

taste: rich medium/full body with big tannins and medium/high acidity along with tones of dark red fruits, dark red cherries, and bits of dark berries and spice tones

overall: The nose is really good right now but not too complex and the palate is dominated by the tannins and acidity

  • 2006 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

nose: a bit tight at first, but opens up into classic chambolle tones of with hi-toned red florals, spices, red fruits, and a good bit of fresh picked berries as well. Very good depth with a nice feminine style to it

taste: well balanced and lovely medium feel with good tannins and medium+ acidity as well as tones of red florals, fresh red fruits, berries and a touch of spices with some cherries. Good depth for a village wine

overall: a pretty chambolle and classic chambolle as well. Very good balance and aromatics right now, but there is a tightness as one would expect from a young wine. Good depth for a village wine, but this won't confuse anyone on it being a premier cru. There is a nice feminine touch on both the palate and nose that is very attractive and should develop further with time

  • 2006 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

nose: robust nose filled with dark red cherries, earth tones and some tones of dark berries. Good depth with the classic gevrey style that one would expect

taste: taught tannins with a good medium feel and robust tones of dark red cherries, spice tones, raspberries, earth, and dark berries. Very good complexity on the palate as well as medium/high acidity

overall: a real quality young gevrey village wine. Robust and with some good power behind it, it does need some time to fully come around and show off what it really has. There is good balance and complexity that brings a bit more then a normal village wine

  • 2007 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

nose: nice and pretty nose of dark red fruits, dark red cherries, spice tones and bits of earth tones as well. Nice tones on the nose, but lacking a bit of depth

taste: very good medium feel with very good supporting tannins and medium acidity with tones of dark red fruits, dark red cherries and some bits of earth. Well balanced with a nice freshness on the tones

overall: A nice village wine, but this seemed to be lacking a slight bit. Just didn't bring some of the other depth that other village wines brought. This has a nice freshness to it that is attractive and pretty

  • 2006 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

nose: nice and tart nose of red cherries, spices, red fruits and some bits of berries. Good depth, but not really screaming

taste: Balanced with very good tones of red cherries, spices and some berry tones. Medium/high acidity and chewy tannins back this up right now

overall: a nice young vosne. This needs some time, but there is a very nice wine underneath with very good aromatics and tones on the palate

  • 2006 Patrice Rion Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

nose: tart tones of red cherries, red fruits, brown spices, and bits of red berries. Nice depth and showing off the youth as well with the tones being pretty vibrant

taste: balanced with a robust medium feel and medium/high acidity with excellent tones of red cherries, brown spices, red berries and a touch of oak tones creep in on the back end

overall: Nice and robust, but it needs to shed some baby fat. On the young side, this has a good bit to like, and if the oak can integrate it could be very nice

  • 2006 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Vieille Vigne 92 Points

taste: powerful medium feel with big tannins and medium/high acidity backed up by deep tones of dark red fruits, earthen tones, dark berries, and some bits of dark spices as well

overall: Extremely young, but tons of promise. Great depth on both the nose and palate, this is a bit of a wild beast right now.

  • 2007 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

nose: nice robust and masculine nose of earth tones, dark spices, dark cherries, and bits of tart raspberry tones. Very good depth with a bit of power behind it

taste: rich and chewy tannins with medium/high acidity and a powerful medium feel and tones of earth, raspberries, dark red fruits, dark spices and a bit of black cherries

overall: the youth is showing on the palate. This will need some time to sort out, but should be real nice in a few years. Certainly shows its terroir as it is unmistakably NSG and has the power behind it as well

  • 2006 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

nose: robust and masculine nose of dark berries, brown spices, dark cherries and bits of earthen tones. Good depth, but on the tight side right now

taste: medium/full body with chewy tannins and tones of dark berries, brown spices, and a good bit of dark cherries. Showing its youth as the tannins and acidity are a bit much right now

overall: Certainly a young wine, but has some real power behind it. Could develop into a real interesting wine with some good time on it and shows off its NSG characteristics real well

  • 2006 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

nose: nose is very tight and not giving up too much, but providing some peeks and tones of dark florals, dark and asian spices, with bits of dark cherries

taste: big tannins and medium/high acidity thrash the palate with a good medium/full feel and some tones ofo dark cherries, asian spices, bits of earth and dark florals

overall: brutally young is the best way to describe it. There is very good structure and its showing it, but it isn't showing too much else. It provides fleeting glimpses right now, but what is shown is extremely good and patience will be required

  • 2007 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

nose: lighter and more forward nose with tones of asian spices, dark red cherries, bits of dark berries and a touch of raspberries. Has a perfumed side to it and is very open right now on the nose

taste: nice lighter medium feel on the palate with good medium+ acidity and good tannnins with balanced and forward tones of raspberries, dark red cherries, and bits of asian spices. Doesn't have the rustic quality that is normal from NSG and doesn't have the ripping tannins either

overall: this comes off as a burg/oregon hybrid. Should be drinkable much sooner as the nose is wide open and the tannins+acidity aren't that overwhelming. A very good wine, but doesn't seem to be as classic NSG as most Chevillon's are

  • 2007 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

nose: fairly tight with tones of dark red fruits, dark spices, bits of dark berries and a touch of dark red cherries. A bit more brooding than other 07s on the nose with good depth

taste: fresher medium feel with good chewy tannins and medium+ acidity with tones of raspberries, dark red fruits, dark spices and bits of dark red cherries

overall: Has a bit of the freshness and forward quality that the 07 vintage has brought for burgundy. On the young side right now and could use a bit of time to sort itself out

  • 2007 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

nose: lighter nose of earthen tones, dark red cherries, wood spices, and bits of asian spices as well. Decent depth with a forwardness to the tones as well

taste: pretty medium feel that is on the lighter side with nice tones of earth, dark red cherries, and bits of asian spices. Good medium acidity, but the mid-palate is a bit hollow

overall: a nice lighter and pretty wine, but is lacking in depth and on the mid-palate. Not sure where it'll go from here and how much it would improve

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

nose: nice and fragrant nose of red florals, red fruits, bits of fresh picked berries and some tones of red cherries, and a bit of spice tones

taste: pretty medium feel with good medium+ acidity and tones of of red florals, red cherries, hi-toned spices, and bits of mixed berries. Good supporting tannins also add to this

overall: a very nice burg. Aromatic and on the feminine side, this doesn't show as much clear oak as the les sentiers did and has a more hi-toned take

taste: very good medium feel with good tannins and medium acidity with forward tones of earthen spices, dark red cherries and a touch of dark berries

overall: a nice food burg. Good supporting structure with a forward quality to it on both the nose and palate. There isn't that much depth, but the fruit is nice and fresh right now

  • 2007 Benjamin Leroux Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

nose: good robustness on the nose while still having a fresh quality at the same time with tones of dark red fruits, dark spices, earth tones and bits of dark berries

taste: fresh and lively tones of dark red fruits, earth tones, spices and a good bit of tart raspberries. Well balanced tones with a nice medium feel, medium+ acidity and good tannins as well

overall: While its still very much a NSG, it isn't as rustic as they can be. Doesn't have a lot of power on it, but more a robust quality as well as some of the fresh fruit tones of the vintage. Interesting and should be really good with a slight bit more depth on the nose and palate and some smoothing out of rough edges

  • 2006 Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

nose: very pretty and elegant nose with hi-toned notes of red florals, red cherries, vosne spices, bits of fresh berries and some red fruits. Tight, but showing some nice depth and class on the nose

taste: elegant and lovely medium feel with medium/high acidity and chewy tannins with tones of red cherries, red fruits, bits of floral tones, spices and a touch of berries and raspberries

overall: A lovely young wine. Very well balanced with nice aromatics that really show off its vosne quality. The nose is a bit tight and the acidity+tannins are on the heavy end right now, but this could turn into a real stunner with time as all of the components are there

  • 2007 Olivier Bernstein Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

nose: very pretty and fragrant nose with tones of red cherries, spice tones, red currants and some bits of red fruits. Very well balanced, but lacking a bit of depth and complexity

taste: elegant medium feel with medium/high acidity and good tannins along with fresh tones of red fruits, berries, red cherries and some bits of spices. There is a good polish to the tones, but the acidity is a bit much right now

overall: this can improve and smooth out with some time. Has the fragrance and prettiness of the vintage, but lacking some depth that would be expected from a premier cru. This will definitely need some time, but its hard to tell how much it will gain

  • 2007 Olivier Bernstein Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

taste: balanced medium feel with real good depth and medium/high acidity as well as some chewy tannins along with tones of raspberries, dark red cherries, dark red fruits, as well as some spice and earth tones

overall: very young right now and in need of some nap time. Well balanced with excellent depth on both the nose and palate and is showing more than the VR Les Suchots was showing at this time

Flight 3 - Grand Crus (9 Notes)

  • 2007 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

nose: very perfumed and heady nose filled with red fruits, red cherries, spices, bits of roses, and violets. Very good depth right now with a sort of silky effect on the nose. It also shows off its youth as it is a bit tightly wound and the layering isn't there just yet

taste: Very satiny and polished lighter feel with medium/high acidity and good tannins. Round and pretty tones of red cherries, red fruits, spices, incense, and bits of roses. Has great depth right now, but the tannins and acidity are showing off the youth of the wine

overall: there is a slightly more forward aspect to wine, but it is a real lovely wine. Very young, as would be expected, this is showing fairly well at this stage. It should be a real beauty of a wine when it becomes more mature and develops some more layering

  • 2007 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

nose: wow, what a nose. Immense purity and depth just flow from the glass with succulent and vibrant tones of tart cherries, spice tones, loads of red florals, red currants, and slight bits of earth round everything out. A very sensual nose that welcomes you in with a soft touch

taste: utterly beautiful and etheral feeling on the palate that just seems to skim across. Silky and elegant with great depth and purity and utter stunning tones of red cherries, all sorts of red and purple florals, red currants, red fruits, and sweet hints of spices. medium/high acidity really lets itself be known on the palate showing off its youth, but still has a caressing state to it

overall: Hard to believe, but this can and will get better. There is really good layering already and the wine just possesses this real warm embrace that can also blow you away. This is a real etheral wine right now, but can easily turn into a mind bending wine. It will need the requisite time, but a patient hand will be needed as there is something extremely special in this bottle

taste: Very classy medium/full feel with powerful tannins and medium/high acidity backed up by rich tones of sour berries, earth tones, dark red cherries, and brown spices

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

taste: beautiful and demure tones of berries, red fruits, dark red cherries, dark spices, and lots of red florals. The youth of the wine shows through with muscular tannins as well as medium/high acidity and grand cru quality depth

overall: A real lovely wine that should really grow into itself. There is an interesting contrast of it having some power as well as elegance that is very interesting. The aromatics are very interesting right now and it will be interesting to see where it goes

taste: chewy tannins with high acidity that is a bit overwhelming right now along with tones of sour raspberries, brown spices, dark red fruits and some bits of earth tones

overall: obviously young, but shows off its grand cru status well. Very aromatic right now, this will need some time to calm down the acidity and tannins but should be a real lovely wine in time

  • 2006 Maison Champy Clos Vougeot 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

nose: interesting but tight nose of dark spices, earth tones, a good bit of dark red fruits, and dark berries. Very good depth, and requires a bit of searching to really get into the nose as it doesn't come to you

taste: quite young as would be expected with medium/high acidity and some tough tannins as well as great tones of dark spices, raspberries, earth tones and dark red fruits

overall: In need of time, which is just par for the course with such a young grand cru. Well balanced with nice dark and cool tones and the depth that one would expect from a Grand Cru as well as some really nice nuances on both the nose and palate at this nascent stage

  • 2006 Maison Champy Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

nose: great depth on the nose, though it is a bit tight with succulent tones of brown spices, earth tones, dark red cherries, dark red fruits, red currants and a touch of tart raspberry tones. Though young, there is a lot of complexity on the nose

taste: great medium feel with medium+ acidity and rough tannins with balanced and deep tones of dark red fruits, brown spices, raspberries, dark red cherries, and some bits of earth tones

overall: a quality young clos de beze. Great depth on this with great tones as well, its on the inaccessible side right now as would be expected from a grand cru of this youth. This can become a real beautiful wine with some good down time

  • 2006 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

nose: elegant and regal nose of mushrooms, red currants, red fruits, bits of perfumes and a touch of purple violets. A bit tight, but showing very good depth and a lot of class

taste: excellent medium feel with medium/high acidity and chewy tannins with very well balanced tones of mushrooms, red fruits, bits of berries and some purple floral tones

overall: Quintessential volany and certainly in need of time. A very elegant burg that does need some time to really allow itself to come out. Not a wine that will blow you away, but this should turn into a real nice wine that will draw you in

Closing

A whole lot of wine to taste and a great cross section overall. It was a real treat to be able to taste the Vogue Moose and even though it was a small pour and very young, one could sense the greatness that it possessed
