Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • 2009 Ojai Viognier Roll Ranch Vineyard 86 Points

    USA, California

very light color in the glass. looks almost like sauvignon blanc. the nose is really floral with some lemons. the palate is richer, showing apricot and honey. medium+ acid on the finish keeps this lively and fresh.

  • 2008 Ojai Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 86 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County

the nose showed almond paste, marzipan but also some green apple for freshness. big, bod wine on the palate with honeysuckle, creamy pear and almond cake. medium acid. i found this to be a thick wine, but it had just enough acid to keep it interesting to drink.

  • 2009 Ojai Riesling Kick On 88 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County

light color hints a subtle, weaker wine, but this is definitely not that. the nose is full of papaya, peach and some honey. medium+ mody. medium sweetness, but it's a pure kind of sweetness, like melted cane sugar. lychee, honeyed pineapple and some lemon-lime on the finish. a big riesling, but one that's refined and quite exquisite.

  • 2008 Ojai Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard 90 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley

bright purple colored in the glass. reduced cherries, raspberries and chocolate cake on the nose. yeah, yeah, yeah, this doesn't smell like pinot, but it smells damned good. straight-up schwartzwaldenkuche (black forest cake). so rich and creamy on the palate that i can't help but love this wine. dark fruit, chocolate cake, raspberry pie filling and purple laffy taffy candy. rich, but not gloppy.

  • 2007 Ojai Syrah Santa Barbara County 89 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County

dark purple colored. the nose really jumped out of the glass. smells like pepperoni sticks and sweet maple syrup. totally smells like those beggin strips, the dog treats. as tooch said, like northern rhone but amped up all the way. the nose on this was just fantastic. then on the palate it hits you with a superb richness. explodes with fig paste and dates, but it's balanced by mouth coating tannins and some good acid. very bold, but also sexy. for their basic wine, this was great. retails for $25, so this is a steal.

  • 2008 Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay Bourgogne 80 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

gorgeous bright ruby color. the nose showed sour cherries and some violets. the palate is ridiculously high in acid. not much fruit besides some cranberries. really tangy. this wine seriously slices up the palate like a knife. intense finish. really out of balance for me though.

  • 2008 Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay Volnay 1er Cru Santenots 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

tooch and i are in agreement on this one. the nose is sexy and elegant with crushed pepper, sour cherries, incense and sandalwood. the palate is light on its feet but pure and powerful at the same time. it's like a woman that works out, does yoga, then puts on a tight dress and hits the dance floor. the palate is so silky, yet strong. really complex wine that makes you think. i loved this baby.

  • 2008 Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

the nose smells like raspberries and sheep farts, also some red licorice. soft and rich on the palate with wild berries, plum skins, soil. needs serious time to show its full stiff. very well balanced between fruit and acid.

  • 2008 Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay Pommard 1er Cru Les Saussilles 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

dense and tight nose. really needs time to open up, but there's no doubt that this has some serious power underneath. fine-grained tannins with zesty acid. sour cherries, tobacco leaves and a bit of earth. intense minerals as well. needs time, but this is excellent stuff.
