Opaque core with brownish crimson rim; soy, fennel, cigar, dark cherry, leather, currant, dried flowers, herbs; nice dark cherry on the palate, lighter body, aged, cigar, cranberry, plummy, elegant; very drinkable and in a nice spot; knew this was good Sangio from Chianti rather than Brunello, called '04 Sorbo which I knew was wrong.
See through dull ruby with rose hues; tart cherry, good depth, rose, light raspberry, spearmint, cooling nose; soft on palate initially, sour cherry, good tannin comes in on the finish, clay?, fresh but a slight graininess to the texture, lots of cherry pit; called '05 Billard-Gonnet Chaponnieres.
80% Nebbiolo, 20% Barbera; see through crimson core with onion skin rim; elegant rose, sexy red cherry, sweet and friendly nose, strawberry, anise, licorice, sandalwood; younger, lighter tannin, cedar, cherry, long finish with a bit of pucker; delicious; called Barbaresco as the Barbera note was not very strong.
Dark core with thin bricking; deep, some vanilla from good French oak, beef, cherry, cigar, leather, loamy, chocolate; slight bitter coffee, espresso, richer, lower acid, good wrap of tannin, chocolate covered cherry, green tobacco, loamy; simpler at this stage but should have a good life ahead of it, tasty.
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Opaque core with bright purple rim; black pepper, violets, plastic, blueberry cobbler, spice, a strong foxy note that reminds me of vitis labrusca; denser mouthfeel, concrete dust, blue and black fruit, sweet; interesting wine; not sure how they get this ripeness and get the alcohol to 12.9%.
Dull maroon with pale rim, see through; acorn, wet earth, tart cherry, sweeter, good fruit; intensely mineral driven, softer fruit and acid, sour cherry, limestone and darker earth- clay?, soft and supple; tasty.
Very dark core with dull garnet rim; vegetal, wood tannin, baker's chocolate, coffee, hard, currant and cherry in the background; hard, tannic, dark fruit, young, drying, chocolate covered cherry, bitter chocolate, wood tannin; was on Bordeaux; not a great bottle of this wine- some thought it was corked but it was not.
Opaque core with thin bright garnet rim; cassis, smoke, green pepper, violets, sweet blackberry, young, cigar; fat, rich, sweet, soft tannin, cassis, green pepper, spicy, Cab, really drinkable for how rich it seems to be; delicious now but should age well; I could see CA Cab drinkers enjoying this now; nailed it; 92+.
See through ruby core with pale rose rim; sweet cherry, some green, strong vanilla, spicy, sexy rose, fatter and almost led people away from Burg; sweet and sexy, tangy cherry, richer mouthfeel, some orange, strong mineral undertone; really tasty stuff and a good buy; this and the Morot have surprised me how generous this Beaune 1er Cru can be with its fruit- the structure and mineral underneath make me curious to see how they will drink in 10+ years.
