I was enjoying this wine too much to make very specific notes. The bouquet was overwhelming. On the palate a full bodied wine in a beautiful balance. Fruits, pine trees, herbs. Youthful and an enormous future. Everything in its place. So beautiful already after double decanting it 5 hours before drinking. It is hard not scoring this wine a 100 points. So 99. Then there is 1 point left for the future.
Very youthful color. The bouquet is fabulous; little barnyard, rustic, earthy, mocha, cigars. Really complex. On the palate a lot of freshness and good and soft acidity. Like a candy stick, but in a positive way. Juicy red fruits. Long finish. Beautiful wine!
Wow! This is great and I was too busy enjoying to make a lot of notes. The youthful bouquet has chocolate, is refined and complex. Same on the palate. A mouth full of wine and so complete. Juicy and complex. Perfect acidity. An extremely long finish. I scored it 98 for the moment, but it will add at least one point in due time. When? Don't know. This wine will last for many years, but this is not a moment to be missed!
Garnet red. Beautiful deep bouquet; concentrated and mature. Still some cassis in combination with pleasant barnyard, plums and good oak. On the palate the wine offers interesting combinations of all sorts of tastes. There is good juice with a little pleasant sweetness. Earthy tones and good bitterness. There is a good amount of acidity. The strange thing about this wine is that the tannin is a bit drying so it gives you the impression it is past its prime, but on the other hand the bitterness and juicy tastes give you the impression the wine is not completely ready yet. The finish is beautiful, long, complex and with a little pleasant sweetness. It is a pity I do not have any bottles, because this is a very interesting wine to follow: will it evolve in an even better wine, or is it really past its prime? Anyway it is really a pleasure now.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Very dark. A lot of concentration with a lot of everything. Very smooth. Much sweetness and alcohol. Almost like a ruby port wine, but softer. Long aftertaste. All together the wine tasted just a little oxidised, so maybe this is an off bottle. I score it nevertheless.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Very full bodied and concentrated. Still in its youthful open stage and possibly it will not close ever. Ripe black fruits, soft milk chocolate. Very opulent and good complexity. Great wine! Wish I had (at least) 6 bottles to open every 2 - 3 years.
Very intense and complex bouquet with lots of smells; a bit toasted, liquorice, herbs and spices, etc. etc. Only smelling is almost enough. On the palate it offers a soft and juicy wine which is mature and youthful at the same time. Beautiful play of tertiary and primary tastes. Very complete wine with a very rich finish that keeps on going. I am in great doubt giving this wine the perfect score or 99 points. I choose for the latter, because it might be even a greater beauty in a few years from now.
Still almost purple. Beautiful complex with all sorts of herbs like rosemary and thyme. Long juicy finish with beautiful bitterness. Still a bit locked. Will improve with ageing. Wait 5+ years.
So youthful. Almost everything is still hidden in this enormously concentrated wine. There is primary cassis, a beautiful harmony between sweetness and acidity. Enormously long finish. New world style almost. 95 points for the pleasure now, but when it ages and shows more of its complexity it will gain at least 2 - 3 points.
This is enormous! I wish I had a case in my cellar! I rated it 99 and that might be too high, or even too low, but at the moment of drinking I was so impressed about the wine as a whole. A lot of vanilla in the complex and luxurious bouquet. Very youthful and an enormous concentration. A lot of good sweetness. Soft and ripe cassis and blackberries. I can almost taste it again while typing this. Beautiful well dosed oak. Fantastic wine!!!
Still almost purple. Coffee, chocolate and butterscotch in the bouquet. The wine is closing itself. Still beautiful cassis, luxurious oak, perfect soft tannin and bitterness. Lots of black as well as red fruits. So complex. So long finish. In potential still a 100 points wine. The open primary stage has disappeared, but I am a 100% sure the wine will come back in a later stage. Wait for at least 5 – 8 years or decant it enough time before drinking. The wine is worth it! Great stuff!!!
Rustic, barnyard and also freshness and black fruits in the bouquet. Very juicy cassis, good tannin, which is mature but also still powerful. Pleasant bitterness. Intense, full bodied and complex wine with a very long finish of ripe cassis flavors. Beautiful balance. Beautiful drinking moment now and for several years to come. (Although I would not wait until the drinking window's 2029 which is entered in CT at this moment)
Dark purple. Ripe black forest fruits in the bouquet. In the mouth like a fruit bomb with white pepper and soft, sticky tannin. Very full bodied and a very long aftertaste. A beauty of a wine, but not showing real complexity (yet!) This is much too young and, although double decanted 4 hours before drinking, not showing what it really has in store. My score is for the moment and this wine might gain several points with ageing. If I had a few I would try my next bottle around 2014.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Double decanted 6 and 4 hours in advance. Dark purple. Wow, what a bouquet! Just sniffing is almost enough. Loaded with primary black berry fruits, perfect oak and some exquisite perfume. Full bodied, almost fat. So youthful. Still in its young and open fruit stage. Very rich with a lot of tastes. Cassis, black chocolate, mocha etc. etc. Smooth bitterness. An enormously well polished wine with a minute long, complex and beautiful aftertaste. In this stage I just have to give it the almost perfect score. Possibly it could be a hundred in the future. It is a new world style concentrated, harmonious and very complex wine. An elegant blockbuster. I hope this will age well, so it will get the perfect score, although I wonder if ageing is the best option; it is such an absolute beauty now when you give it enough air. One way or another; this will be a very interesting wine to follow over the next decades. Great!!!
My first wine from Washington and what a start! Intense and complex bouquet with ripe blackberries, flowers and lots of other impressions. Enormously concentrated, loaded with soft ripe black fruits. Ink. Enormously long and complex aftertaste. The bottle was opened in the morning and double decanted, so the wine really showed itself and it was surprisingly friendly and ready, but no doubt there is a lot of future here. This belongs to the best wines I ever tasted and the only reason I don't score it even higher is because of the high alcohol impression you get. Possibly a crime to say, or showing my limitations as a taster, I knew what I had in my glass, but if the wine was poured to me blindfolded, I could have said this tastes like an Australian top shiraz.
Beautiful, deep, mature and expressive bouquet with a little pleasant barnyard and ripe cassis. Same on the palate, as well as other ripe forest fruits. Good bitterness, pleasant sweetness, Some chocolate and cigar as well. Long and complex finish. A very refined and still vital wine. If I owned a bottle I would not keep it another 10+ years (as the drinking window suggests)
Ripe black forest fruits. A lot of sweetness. This wine is almost eating and drinking at the same time. Soft and opulent. Behind the concentration there is elegance and finesse and fresh acidity. Complex wine. Beautiful combination of new world/modern concentration and old world finesse.
Enormously concentrated in all aspects; color, bouquet, taste, complexity. A lot of herbs and spices, dark fruit and liquorice in the bouquet. Like walking in a field with drying herbs on a hot summer day with a pleasant breeze. On the palate the same impressions with juicy cassis, chocolate and also a little green paprika. Long finish. Still very youthful, but what a great pleasure!
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Not so many notes. Just enjoying. Beautiful fruit and spiciness and herbs like clove. Still so primary, but also so approachable. A feast! Nevertheless 1 point less than 16 months ago. The reason is that the wine is so easy going, almost too easy. Hope to taste this again when it becomes of age.
This is a barrel sample. The first impression in the bouquet is yeast. Then there is black forest fruit. A lot of everything; concentration, black forest fruits and oak. All very primary. It has to integrate. Botox wine is what I wrote down at the moment. Certainly a great wine. The score is for the moment. I wonder what it will taste like in 5 - 7 years from now.
Full bodied. Soft. All sorts of black fruits. The tannin is incredibly beautiful; soft and powerful at the same time. Elegant power with an extremely long aftertaste. Even though you expect a quality wine like this (and of this age) to be in a somewhat closed stage, the wine is still in its opulent primary stage. This might be a port wine that never really closes and will be a beauty all of its long life.
