Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 1988 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Tasted blind. Clear, medium golden color. Clear, medium, developing nose: some vanilla crescent, water melon, fine herbs, mineral notes and just a bit of petrol in the back. Very elegant and balanced.
Off-dry, more tasting like a Spätlese. I guess the wine had not much of residual sugar back in 1988. Acidity is medium and still perfectly integrated. On the palate with a fine smokiness, yellow fruit, herbs and a bit of speck. Delicate, elegant, great balance and resting in itself. Perfect harmony without being loud. Medium+, wonderful soft and lingering finish. Drink now or within the next 5+ years. 93

  • 2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Clear, medium golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose, revealing the warmer vintage of 2009: At the beginning a bit dark and dense with lots of spiciness from oak, speck, smokiness and a bit of apple must. With air it got leaner and more mineral.
Dry, medium acidity. Seems to have more alcohol than it actually has (12,8% abv). Medium+ body. On the palate herbs, apple must, lots of spices and some oak. With time and air it gets more mineral and rounder. Creamy, good texture, powerful muscles, depth. Very good length.
Give it time and air. 92

  • 2007 Domaine Potinet-Ampeau Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Drunk parallel to the 2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux. Clear, medium golden color. Clean, medium intense, developing nose. Spices, fine oak and nice mineral notes. Leaner and more mineral than the Roulot.
Dry, medium+ acidity. Even though it has a higher alcohol level (13,7% abv) than the Roulot it seems less hot, so it is much better integrated. On the palate good fine chalky mineral notes. Yellow and wihite fruit. Some musty notes that went away with air. Good backbone from the fine oak. Medium+, elegant finish. Not as powerful and muscle packed as the Roulot, more balanced and elegant. Also benefits from a bit of air, so give it time in the decanter. 92-93

  • 2009 Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Großes Gewächs 92 Points

    Germany, Nahe

Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose: Lots of herbs, depth, some dark mineral notes, lemon and citrus notes. Beautiful perfume that gets even better with air.
Dry, but with some amount of residual sugar (I would guess around 6+ gr/l). Medium acidity. On the palate you can feel the warm vintage with lots of ripe, yellow and white fruit, but also with a lovely mineral note. Good depth, clear flavors and precise. But also baroque, meaning not really fat or broad. Gets even more precise and mineral with air, so give it enough time. Still good potential for the future. 92+

  • 2008 Domaine du Collier Saumur La Charpentrie 92 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur

Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium intense, developing nose with lots of pear, pear and apple must, white blossoms and mineral notes. Complex and nice.
Bone dry, medium+ acidity, 13% abv that is perfectly integrated. On the palate ripe pear, apple, must, fine mineral notes and a very long, soft, elegant finish only based on pure ripe pear. Very elegant and young. Never guessed that to be 10 years old. Still good potential, but I guess it is already on its peak. 92

  • 2016 Weingut Schnaitmann Trollinger Alte Reben 89 Points

    Germany, Württemberg

Tasted blind. Clear, pale cherry-red color. Clean, medium+ intense, youthful nose with lots of herbs, a bit artificial fruit (cherry), ice candy, white pepper, ethereal.
Dry, medium acidity. On the palate lots of fruit (cherry), maybe a bit artificial, pepper. Medium length. Lean and elegant, good balance. Drink now or within the next 2-3+ years. 88-89. For a Trollinger I must admit it is really good :)

  • 2012 Jules Desjourneys Moulin-à-Vent Les Michelons 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent

Clear, deep ruby color, astonishingly intense for a Gamay. Clean, medium intense, developin nose with lots of red fruit and herbs. Quite dense.
Dry, medium acidity. On the palate lots of spices, red and dark fruit, saltiness and depth. Very powerful and concentrated. This wine shows perfectly what can be achieved from Gamay with low yields, great terroir and a good vintner. But: the medium, mellow tannin is very drying on the palate and that ruins the whole wine for me. Due to that I can’t imagine that this wine has a bright future, because I guess the tannin will continue to dry out the palate. What a pitty, could have been a very good wine… 88. Bad PQR.

  • 2008 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

Tasted blind. Clear, medium ruby garnet color with orange edges. Clean, medium intense, developing nose. Powerful, a bit rough with lots of spices, red fruit and oak, some espresso.
Dry, medium+ acidity, medium+, fine and powerful tannin. On the palate quite powerful, with lots of muscles: nice red fruit, spices, speck, smoke. Nice tension. Finish is medium+ dominated by fruit. Lacks a bit the elegance that one would expect, but I really liked this wine that has still some years of potential. 90-91
