Flight 1 - Champagne (1 Note)

  • 2010 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Premier Cru Terre de Vertus 94 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Similar showing as the last bottle from September 2017. Delicious and refreshing nose displaying granny smith, pear, almond paste, a hint of brioche, honeysuckle and crushed rock. Excellent balance, generous refreshing white fruit, good acidity and mineral, and a long clean finish with a hint of almond and brioche at the end. Really delicious and refreshing. A hint of almond/nut adds nice complexity.

Flight 2 - White Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2010 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Ried Kellerberg 96 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

Intense energetic nose displaying pineapple, white peach, cooked pear, subtle lemon oil, spicy spices, a hint of petrol and crushed rock. Exceptional concentration, concentrated oily yellow fruit, a hint of sweetness, mouth puckering acidity, incredibly mineral and a long dense concentrated yellow fruit driven finish. This is a big scale concentrated Riesling that is drinking incredibly. Nothing shy about it but not overdone.

  • 1972 Domaine Ponsot Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Blanc 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru

Served blind by me. The oldest guess is from the 90s. Medium gold, very youthful color for age. Expressive steely nose displaying subtle yet very ripe dry yellow fruit, peach juice, dry apricot, steel, saline, oyster jus, smoked meat and wet stone. Amy and Mark mentions strong ham and I agree. Amy guesses Jura Chardonnay which is an excellent guess. Excellent concentration, concentrated tertiary yellow fruit, mouth puckering acidity and steely mineral, and a long concentrated yellow fruit driven finish with smoke meat and steel at the end. The overall expression shows a good resemblance to the younger vintages but more complex which can be attributed to the proper cellaring. Really unique showing.

  • 2005 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Not as expressive as the bottle from 4/29. Pop and pour, not terribly expressive, wet sox and, wet stone with only a hint of citrus fruit. With air, lemon curd, fresh apple juice, honey, rain water, saline, honeysuckle, honey and wet stone. Excellent concentration, densely packed lemon and apple fruit, medium acidity, strong mineral presence and a medium to long white fruit and mineral driven finish. It improves with air, the last dropping being the best. I highly recommend decanting.

Flight 3 - White Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2012 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Charlemagne 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Expressive slightly modern nose displaying ripe succulent yellow fruit, pineapple, pina colada, crème brulee, seashell and subtle limestone. Nicely integrated palate, nicely layered yellow fruit, silky, round and fluid, good acidity and mineral, and a medium to long sweet yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of oak and mineral at the end. This is a solid, slightly modern, Corton Charlemagne that is drinking beautiful.

  • 2013 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Is it the vintage or Louis Latour? Lean, slightly medium concentration and slightly muted. The overall expression is fresh and balanced but seems to lack energy. Correctly made and enjoyable but a bit pedestrian.

  • 2010 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

There is a hint of damp dirty cellar that mostly dissipates. Medium expressive nose displaying lemon curd, a hint of peach, a hint of oak, sweet spices and mineral. Medium concentration, good acidity and mineral and a medium to long citrus and ripe yellow fruit driven finish. It feels a bit flat and slightly more advanced than expected. Need to revisit.

Flight 4 - Red Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Expressive nose displaying decadent yet fresh red fruit, cherry pie, strawberry and rhubarb pie, crushed rose petal, a hint of licorice, caramel and limestone. There is a hint of sous bois developing already. Excellent concentration, nicely layered ripe red fruit, bright acidity, earthy mineral and a long sweet red fruit and flower driven finish. Showing surprisingly concentrated fruit for the vintage yet showing a lot of pure red fruit that you expect from the producer. Really delicious but can improve for another decade.

  • 2005 Remoissenet Père et Fils Chambertin 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Medium expressive masculine nose displaying ripe black fruit, roasted blackberry, black cherry, a hint of stem, tree bark and earthy mineral. Excellent concentration, packed black fruit, good acidity, strong slightly coarse tannins and a long ripe black fruit driven finish. Really powerful and structured, lacking finesse and a bit straightforward. The tannins reminds me the old school Faiveley but I prefer the pretty red fruit driven nose of Faiveley. Not really sure how this will develop.

Flight 5 - Red Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2006 Henri Jouan Clos St. Denis 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru

Pretty floral nose displaying sweet red fruit, flowers, cinnamon, tree bark and earth. Excellent concentration, nicely layered sweet red fruit, bright acidity, finely layered tannins and a long sweet red fruit and earthy driven finish with a hint of cinnamon at the end. There is a hint of ’06 bitterness that is not bothersome. Drinking nicely but can improve for another decade gaining sous bois.

  • 1992 Domaine de la Grange des Pères Vin de Pays de l'Hérault 95 Points

France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault

I mixed up the bottles and served blind thinking it was the 78 Burgundy. Amy and Mark comment that the color is incredible dark and opaque. Expressive nose displaying cherry cough syrup, cherry jam, cinnamon, pepper, a hint of sous bois and earth. Excellent concentration, packed dense jammy red fruit, unctuous yet silky, good acidity, strong earthy mineral and a long concentrated jammy black fruit driven finish with earth and cinnamon at the end. It gets sweeter and more complex with air. Pleasant surprise.

Flight 6 - Red Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 1989 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Youthful nose displaying subtle slightly dry red fruit, dry cherry, cherry liqueur, raspberry, rare charred steak, tapenade, leather, garriigue, wild flowers and limestone mineral. There is a slight hint of brett which is a shame. Fully resolved palate, finely layered red fruit, silky and polished, good acidity and mineral and a medium subtle red fruit driven finish with a hint of brett and cinnamon at the end.

  • 1983 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

From a half bottle. Served blind by me and some thinks Burgundy. Burgundian nose displaying subtle red fruit, dry cherry, fresh cherry, rose, pepper, beef jerky, garrigue, tapenade, cinnamon, ash and limestone. Fully resolved palate, subtle red fruit, silky and fluid, bright acidity, strong limestone mineral and a medium to long subtle red fruit driven finish with rose and mineral at the end. Although enjoyable, it needs to be drunk up.

Youthful nose displaying decadent black fruit, black cherry preserves, a hint of fruitcake, tobacco, leather, dark spices and earth.
