From 3L. Slightly dark color for its age, but still nicely vibrant and age appropriate maturity. Good richness and concentration with almost tropical fruit, surprisingly lush for the vintage. Moderate nuance, but very enjoyable.

Started out very musty, to the extent some thought it corked, but thankfully not...just earthy and musty. Much better flavors with fully mature black fruit and good+ weight, showing muscle and aged nuance nicely on finish. Happy pre-birthday, Jordan.

Good color, poor fill (ullage 6+ cm). Very madeirized.

Small glass, brief note. Ripe red fruit with both sweet and savory spice. Big and rich, while barely evolved. Very good potential, but better to cellar longer for more complexity to unfold.

Small glass, brief note. Red and black cherry with floral aromas. Still firm and slightly backward, but the density and power makes me confident this will develop into a very worthwhile wine, 2025 forward. That's the '05 vintage.

Small glass, brief note. Maturing black fruit with roasted meat. Good+ weight, rustic edges. More "Gevrey" to me than Girardin 2002 Beze in the next glass, even if the Girardin is a more fun glass of Pinot Noir.

Small glass, brief note. Ripe black cherry with good weight, very good balance. Moderate complexity that barely showed "Grand Cru oomph." Less "Gevrey" to me than Gelin 2002 Beze in the next glass, but this 90Girardin is a more fun glass of Pinot Noir.

Small glass, brief note. Ripe black and red cherry, still very fresh, which makes it seem so young. At the same time, there is clearly very good balance. Tasty now, with lots of upside.

From magnum. Red and black cherry throughout that starts out with earth and floral support, then brings out with anise and espresso. Good+ weight and length. In its peak drinking window.

Small glass, brief note. Ripe black cherry and berry is still so fresh and bright. Rare beef with savory spice provide good support. Not a powerhouse, but good+ weight and length with very good balance.

Small glass, brief note. Ripe aromas, slightly more black vs red fruit with charming savory spice. Similar flavors, just slightly less robust. Better to cellar longer.

Small glass, brief note. Very classically Gevrey with black fruit and game, also showing Grand Cru density, but maturing more quickly than most 2009 Grand Cru. I will drink my bottles within the next decade, if not sooner.

Small glass, brief note. From magnum. A little reductive, but more backward. Good concentration and clear potential, but I'd cellar until 2025 or later.

Small glass, brief note. Very old, not particularly drinkable. Disappointing for the vintage.

Small glass, brief note. Dark color, but amazingly fresh. Fresh and dried apricot with marzipan, honeycomb. Great length with so much density, plus lots of energy throughout.

Small glass, brief note. Very enjoyable just much simpler vs the Kracher #8 and #11 tasted just after. Good overall.

Small glass, brief note. Mango and candied orange peel with very good density and excellent balance. Less flamboyant than #11, but just as good.

Small glass, brief note. Fresh peach, peach jam and papaya. Powerful and very unctuous. A very extroverted wine, borderline over-the-top, but enough energy to remain well balanced.

Small glass, brief note. Black berries and cassis with dark chocolate and baking spice. Long finish ends with very elegant and finessed character. Very good now.

1996 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 92 Points
France, Champagne
Small glass, brief note. Plenty of apple and lemon curd with good+ weight and textures, just somewhat more mature than I would expect for the vintage, and also more mature vs a more vibrant bottle from last year.

Small glass, brief note. Very bright apple and lemon. Good depth, very good length. Only detraction is that I tasted this immediately after (the similar, but slightly better) Salon 2004.

So much here, but ever-so-slightly corked, coming through just enough to distract on both nose and palate.
