  Fragrant nose of black cherry with some licorice. A little steely and tight on the mid-palate. Smokey finish. Opened up further as the evening progressed.

  A bit more acidity than the 2009 Clos Vougeot. Bacon notes. Smooth and easy drinking wine.

  Amazing how fresh this still is. Complex and full bodied. This kept getting better as the night progressed. Layers of nuance and complexity.

  First bottle flawed but second one drank very nicely. Definitely more evolved than the 64 Montrachet tasted alongside. Caramel and orange zest with a pronounced oyster salinity.

  A clear step up form the 95 Le Corton. This is much more refined. Signature dark cherry fruit but with much more depth and length than the 95. Nice tannic structure gives this plenty of aging potential without detracting from enjoyment today.

  Wow wine and WOTN for me. Awesome complexity yet lots of freshness and acidity. Beautiful mature notes but nowhere near the end of its life. Smoke, meat and strawberries.

  Beautifully nuanced. Incredible how fresh and young this wine is at this age. Full bodied. Lots of stewed strawberries. This flight of 1971, 1964 and 1949 Bouchards was stunning!

  The final flight of whites had a tough time getting noticed after the stunning trio of 1971, 1964 and 1949 reds. This had very nice acidity. Some nuanced understated flavors.

  Light color. Nicely fragrant. Very light on its feet. Delicious easy drinking. Probably unfair to have tasted this last after a flight of phenomenal older reds.

The Henriot Cuvee 38 blancs de blancs and 1958 Ch. Vilargeil Rivesaltes that book-ended the tasting were each delicious as well.
