There’s some nice ‘99 black cherry fruit, but the unintegrated wood notes really dominate, and the wine seems to be drying out. I think with less aggressive oak would be a nice not quite ready Corton, as is it’s a disappointing and not going in right direction wine C+/B-

13.5% alcohol. The wine penetrates the long cork 2/3 of the way. Pale translucent colour with significant fading and some browning at the rim. The nose is mostly tertiary with leather, forrest floor and a hint of caramel. Similarly balanced in the mouth, with spectacular length; an initial quasi-acetic feel dissipates over time. There is a good bit of elegance here. Interesting and complex but probably too far removed from recognisable fruity sensations for my taste; trouble is that it was tough and unready for a long time.

(Bouchard Père et Fils Le Corton) The vineyard holding of BP&F is extensive in Le Corton. Corton-Charlemagne is made from the top of this vineyard which despite it's height is more protected from the elements due to the trees on the top of the hill. From the bottom part of this vineyard comes their red Corton, often a favourite of mine and it seems no change here! The colour is again not too saturated, but the nose is obviously much deeper and sweeter than the previous Volnay. The palate is full and tannic with excellent acidity and lovely intense black fruit. An excellent finish too. First class Corton.
