Coravin fun - European Riesling

with the German Riesling coming up at Five Way Cellars I decided to have a look at some Germans in my cellar (with a token Alsatian)

• 2005 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile

  France, Alsace

  From Coravin. Peach, stone fruit, a little waxy note, ripe apples, slight buttery/creamy notes and a touch of spice, a little lime with time. Medium plus intensity acidity, apple, lime, cream, muted stone fruit in support. Long. One of the betters ones of these I've had. Nice

• 2007 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  From Coravin. Ripe, generously fruited; stone fruit; a little orange; ripe apple, very very slight kerosene note, floral elements. Exceedingly pretty nose. Medium plus intensity acidity is offset by the residual sugar, a similar cornucopia of fruit on the palate, a little honeyed note is joined by slight bitterness on the medium plus length finish. Very nice.

• 2009 Alfred Merkelbach Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese #18

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of honey, a little baking spice, ripe apple, touch of dustiness and cream with time. Juicy, muted flavours of apple and baking spice, a little apple skin bitterness on the finish, texture, slightly short. Hmm

• 2012 Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch (Erben-Thanisch) Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Spätlese

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of green over red apple, slight pear, a little sulphur prickle, opens with time to show a touch of custard apple. Medium plus intensity acidity, apples and pears, residual sugar acid balance make the crunchy fruit 'pop' on the palate, all travel long. Best tasting of this. Yum.

• 2001 Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Mülheimer Helenenkloster Riesling Eiswein

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  From Coravin. Toffee apple, gingerbread, honey, touch of butter and cream. Medium plus intensity acidity but cloyingly sweet, very toffee apple, ginger bread and pain d'epices all travelling very long. Lovely.

  From Coravin. Peach, stone fruit backed by ripe apple, slaty minerality, with time a little creaminess. Juicy, tangy, quite apple over stone fruit on the palate, okay flavour wise but very good sugar/acid balance

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  From Coravin. Sweet, slightly ripe apple, touch of quince, spice, mineral notes, smidge of sulphur. Juicy, fleshy, crunchy ripe apple, a little mineral textured, simple but travels long. Nice with, again, very good sugar/acid balance

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  From Coravin. Medium plus intensity aromas show honey, stony fruit, slight custard apple and a little green apple underpin, fresh ripe citrus, Nice nose. Juicy medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, off dry, sugar/acid balance near perfect, beautifully harmonious, flavours of stone fruit, custard apple, slight honey and very slight textured burr. Glorious, wonderful

  From Coravin. Custard apple, stone fruit; apricot, smidge of sulphur. Juicy, fleshy, off dry tends to sweet but acid sufficient to offset, borders on the wrong side of sweetness which lends a very slightly cloying note, soe fruit, custard apple, a little texture, fresh, long, nice

  From Coravin. Medium minus aromas of sulphur, muted apple, quite a closed nose despite agitation. Juicy, off dry, a little apple, quince, textured burr sits beneath these flavours, all travel long and, though balanced, still showing as quite primary/young

  Germany, Nahe

  From Coravin. Cream, peach, slight honey, a little mineral underpin, touch of spice. Very custard apple and ripe red apple on the palate with a creamy note. Off dry, generous without straying to the flabby, lovely

  From Coravin. Cream, slight butter, a little meaty spice, backed by stone fruit and ripe red apple. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, stone fruit, ripe red apple, a little honey, like the 2008 it is equally generous, rather nice…splendid in fact. Yum

  From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of peach, a little apple, cidery notes, a little lemon citrus here as well. Medium plus intensity acidity, apple and ripe lemon, smidge of grapefruit bitterness and texture, slightly lightweight, off dry. Hmm

Very nom nom nom...German Riesling is very nice and I don't have or drink enough of it, shame on me...
