Double Blind Tasting- don't even know which is our own wine.

  • 1994 Dominus Estate Napanook Vineyard 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Garnet core with slight brick rim; lots of spicy red currant, boxwood, tanned leather, a bit weedy, pretty earth and slight truffle, not the best balance, smells older; linear on the palate, spicy palate, a bit tinny, herbaceous, tightly wound, touch liqueured, dusty finish, metalic in the middle; feels coiled still and needs to unfurl; 93+; called 2001 Lafite.

  • 2011 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chapelle-Chambertin 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

See through ruby maroon, looks young; some reduction, plum, dark cherry, Gevrey, vanilla, big, Grand Cru, textured, a big boy- Beze or Chambertin, powerful, long, serious, gravitas, lower acids, layered, waves of flavor on the finish, floral and fruit, grip; young but enjoyable; 94+; '09 Beze?

  • 1996 Château Latour Grand Vin 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Darker garnet, dull violet rim; lovely claret, good mix of earth and non fruit descriptors, red and black currant, dirty, green, sand, violets pop in there, tanned leather, cedar, so complex and shows better balance than #1, in a good spot with aged complexity and newer fresher fruit and floral notes; while this is really good it doesn't seem to show the deepest or most noble; '96 Ducru?

  • 1990 Château Cheval Blanc 96 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

A lot lighter crimson core with orange brick rim; truffle, raspberry, celery seed, still an oak signature, sexy and aged, graham cracker, sweet leather, liqueured red currant, truffle, still strong acids but a savoriness, a relenting quality showing some age, mushroom, lithe, elegant and nobly refined; '90 Cheval?

  • 1978 Château Haut-Brion 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Crimson core with large brick rim; wow nose, aged and in a really good spot, so much character and complexity, boom!, cedar, cigar box, gravel, liqueured fruit but also some dried fruit, slight weedy green, balanced, so noble for age; this has to be mine; Haut Brion style in spades.

  • 2004 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Cloudy orange ruby; lovely nose, cranberry, sweet sour cherry, orange zest, underbrush, spice, menthol, complex, in a good spot age-wise, juicy and fresh, round and full, not the power of #2 but shows great elegance; really good; '05 DRC Grands Ech?

  • 2006 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo Brunate Le Coste 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Pretty maroon crimson core with onion skin rim; sexy nose, super floral, young and fresh, green herbs, menthol, hard red fruit, cinnamon, says Nebbiolo, slight leather, fleshier than I was expecting with some relenting tannins; could this be a top tier Brunello with Barolo characteristics like 2010 Il Marroneto Madonna delle Grazie?; 93+.

  • 1982 Château Latour Grand Vin 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Maroon core with thin rim; great nose, so floral, Margaux?, linear red cherry, currant, boxwood, just entering a secondary stage, pure noble and special just a little straightforward right now, fresh, lifted and beautiful, tannins are fairly relaxed; seems to be entering a good spot, lots of harmony and joy to be found here; a much younger example of a wine that I have put in my top 3 Bordeaux ever, loved this wine but hard to put it above the '78 HB because it just wasn't as ready.

  • 2005 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru

Plummy maroon; lovely nose, fresh juicy fruit, high toned darker fruit, baby fat, some funk, sweet fruit and bordering on slight volatility, oak; overall pretty and easier drinking than some of the other Burgs today but still very delicious and possible improvement with more time; 92+; showing quite young, called 2014 Drouhin Chambertin.

  • 2000 Château Haut-Brion 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Reddish violet core with thin rim; super young and fruity, simpler compared to many we've had today, licorice, black currant, plum, youthfully structured yet not hard, I'd call this a bit shut down right now, new oak, sweet fruit, slight medicinal quality to it; not old enough for the company today, this has lots of improving to do; 92+, called 2012 Masseto.
