2/17/2024 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 98 pointsNear perfection in a slightly aged white wine. Explodes in the mouth with lime and lime blossom. Then it grabs on with chalky grip, shows a lovely spice melange and fans out into an underripe tropical orchard finish. The finish goes on and on. Such good juice. |

11/7/2009 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 95 pointsGolden color. Honey on the nose. Slight metallic edge to the palate at first, but it went away with a little air. Medium body, great balance of sweetness and acidity. Some beautiful floral notes on the palate to complement the honey. This is in a sweet spot and reminds why I love aged Sauternes. |

3/26/2012 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 95 pointsBlind Tasting 1998 Rhone Syrahs (and Aussie ringers) (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Lovely nose of spice, raspberries and roast meat. Light to medium bodied with low to medium acidity. Palate is just wow. Complex, mature and savory. Iron, earth, black tea and tart raspberry. Long, savory, earthy finish. By far the best wine of the flight to me, nothing else came close. (my 1st, group's 2nd) |

Fresh and lively in the mouth with raspberry and strawberry fruit accented by earth, baking spice and just hints of fine-grained tannins. Balanced and beautiful. |

11/17/2011 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 95 pointsBlind Tasting 1986-96 Joguet Chinons and Cali Cab Francs (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Second lightest color, moderate bricking. Pretty nose of soy, dried flowers and a tinge of bell pepper. Light bodied with medium acidity. Cranberry, dried flowers, baking spices, leather and a touch of green. The flavors are lifted by the wonderful acidity and there's great intensity and length despite the light body. This is a revelation. (my 1st, group's 1st in a landslide) |

9/8/2011 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 95 points2009 Novy Syrahs: Blindtasting with Adam Lee (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Gorgeously complex nose of apricot, lemon peel and spicy, candied ginger. The palate delivers on the promise of the nose with caramel, flan, apricot and golden raisin. All this delicious sugar and fruit are lifted and balanced by excellent acidity. So many lovely aged flavors but still fresh and vibrant in the mouth. Epic. |

2/8/2011 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 95 pointsCaramel colored with a glint of red. Antique furniture store and a hint of maple syrup on the nose. Beautifully balanced palate of toffee, nuts, and chocolate covered cherries. Not that sweet, just sweet enough. A bit of heat upon opening that went away with time. Complex with a long finish worthy of contemplation. Outstanding. |

10/14/2010 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 94 pointsWineBerserkers Burgundy OL (Lupa Trattoria, San Francisco, CA): Expected this to be shut down like so many of the '05s I've had in the past year, but it was shockingly open. Big, ripe red fruited nose. More deliciously pure red fruit on the palate, floral notes and minerality. Some tannin structure comes through on the backend, but this is drinking wonderfully right now. |

2007 Château Doisy-VédrinesSauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more |
4/18/2010 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 94 pointsLight yellow color. Light to medium body, not too viscous, very floral with noticeable botrytis. Nice acidity, not flabby at all. Wow this is fantastic. Definitely for fans of more elegant, less candied Sauternes. |

11/27/2020 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 94 pointsI love every facet of this young Amador Zin. The nose soars with bing cherry, violets, and terragon. Pure cranberry and blackberry fruit with black pepper and ripe tannins that stain the palate and carry the finish. This is reminiscent of Gamay, Nebbiolo, and mountain Zin. I drink a lot of Bedrock and this is a stand-out. |

4/8/2011 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 93 pointsReticent nose to start which opened up into peach and lemon with a mineral note. Layers and layers of fruit on the palate, with peach, pear, kiwi and pineapple dancing around my tongue. But they dance lightly, lifted by lemony acidity. Complex, engaging and one of the best young rieslings I've tasted. |
