PNP. Gorgeous garnet red hue with an intoxicating bouquet. Full, round and balanced mouth feel with a soft lengthy finish. The wine took on added depth in the 2nd hour. At under $25 a bottle, an outrageous bargain.

Absolute tour de force. Perhaps the best bottle of Rosé I have ever tasted. Beautiful, sparkling crystal hue in the glass. Fantastic acidity, depth, complexity and finesse with a lengthy a velvety finish. A wine with lots of soul that will age effortlessly for decades.

Very young and still very tight. Pedigree is evident, but patience of another few years at least is needed.

Two years since last bottle (too long). 4 hour slo-o. Simply gorgeous bottle of wine. Ethereal bouquet with impeccable balance, focus and finesse on a velvety palate. Lengthy and elegant finish. A wine with soul that has a couple of decades in front of it.

2 hour slo-o prior to bringing to the restaurant, where they decanted it. My first taste upon opening was a rather harsh, grassy palate. An hour later, no change. First sip at restaurant was much better. 5 minutes later the wine waffled back to the harsh grassy palate which now extended to the finish. While the wine was drinkable, it really was not very good. Off bottle? I hope so.

Second bottle the next day, 2 hour slo-o. Better than first bottle. Harsh, grassy palate was gone replaced by a softer, medium to light-bodied palate. Finish was rather short as was the bouquet. While this drank better than previous bottle, it was much less exciting than other Barolo I have had from this vintage, at least at the moment.

From 375ml bottle. Very good, but when drunk next to Quintarelli Recioto from the same vintage, it finishes a distant secong. It lacks that amazing balance of sweet and dry that is a signature of Quintarelli.

  • Comment posted by cardsandwine:

10/8/2014 6:24:00 AM - We all have our preferences. The Dal Forno Recioto is a very good wine, however in my opinion the Quinterelli has more balance and focus. We all have different palates. That's why there is chocolate and vanilla.

Either a bad bottle or the wine is past its prime. No fruit at all. Disappointing.

7/26/2014 9:06:00 AM - Stefan, I have had Fevre many times. Many bottles in my cellar and they usually sing. Unfortunately this bottle appeared to have laryngitis. It happens.

  • Comment posted by cardsandwine:

7/27/2014 7:13:00 AM - Yes, unfortunately anemia and depression can also occur. Fortunately it is the exception not the rule. Saluté.

7/27/2014 10:56:00 AM - Just read your notes. What you describe is what I have experienced with Fevre, Dauvissat and Raveneau over the years. We just had a bad bottle. BTW, since like me, you are a Chablis fan, have you had Patrick Piuze. Rising star of Chablis at a fraction of the cost of the big guys.

  • Comment posted by cardsandwine:

5/31/2014 9:29:00 AM - Wine-Strategies, Terlano is a co-operative in Alto Adige that makes spectacular white wines (yet to taste their reds). The Rosé costs $18 which is incredible for a wine of this quality.

I love the wines of Lopez de Heredia and they are usually fantastic. This bottle was less so. I think it had to do with the bottle's provenance, a problem I have run across before with older vintages.

  • Comment posted by cardsandwine:

5/31/2014 9:04:00 AM - Sequoiagrove, the wine was dead. No fruit, no focus, no finesse and no finish. I believe it was a bottle that was not stored or shipped properly. I plan on opening another bottle soon. I hope the results are better.

The rosé of rosés. Drinks more like a red than a rosé. Delicious wine, that continues to evolve in the glass as you sip it. A mainstay in my cellar. It was the perfect wine for sipping by the pool in yesterday's near 100º temperature.

  • Comment posted by cardsandwine:

5/16/2014 7:00:00 AM - Wine-Strategies. Yes if stored properly, I would expect it to last for some time. My last bottle was in May of 2012 and it was still drinking beautifully. I am currently drinking the '08 and '10 and both are gorgeous.

Opened with slow-ox for 90 minutes. Not a wine for me. Super Tuscan to the core. Massive fruit and alcohol on the palate with a harsh finish that seems to be prevalent in wines like this (Super Tuscan/California). It seemed ultra-modern in style and It lacked the elegance, grace and finesse of wines from Piedmont. Perhaps it is still too young. Perhaps it is just me. Will see what day 2 brings.

  • Comment posted by cardsandwine:

2/6/2014 5:09:00 AM - Eric, you may be right. Perhaps this is way too young. I finished the bottle last night and it did soften up a bit and was more enjoyable than the first night.

1.5 hour decant. Deep dark purple hue, soft tannins and good balance. I expected more from this vintage, but there appears a move towards more modern style wines at this once great chateau. Too bad.

  • Comment posted by cardsandwine:

11/29/2013 2:35:00 PM - Vainio. I have enjoyed and still have in my cellar many wines from Beaucastel from the '80s and '90s, including many of Homage wines. They are great examples of old world winemaking in my opinion, full of terroir, balance, finesse and depth. I find the more current wines not to be so, and are really not to my liking and thus for me it is no longer a great chateau. It is only one man's opinion.
