When I think of grenache I think of a big wine like chateauneuf du pape or priorat, but this lighter--not quite pinot-bodied, but approaching it--wine is very appealing. It has a good balance of sweet fruit and acidity / minerality. Tasting blind, I guessed Beaujolais. |

4/18/2023 - Christian von Dresky Likes this wine: 89 pointsThis amy be peaking now. The nose is ripe, tertiary notes gaining weight but still gripping and wirh a hint of fresh Kirsch which is black. There is some tree bark, diesel (thanks for this inspirational descriptor, by Luis Gutiérrez), in the end cinnamon and cloves. There is still a good structure, keeping it all together interwoven with a fine thread of fresh acidity. Beautiful wine. About a year ago I had the 2012 vintage and it was quite mature and clearly behind it's peak. Again I feel that the coller and fresher years provide wines with more depth, beauty and ageing potential. |

An unblended Grenache wine sourced from a single vineyard (clay-limestone soils / 35-year-old vines) in the village of San Martin de Unx, located about forty kilometers south of the city of Iruña (Pamplona). It was aged for twelve months in French 500-liter oak barrels. Color: quite translucent ruby-red. Bouquet: initially a bit shy but with some air it opened up with scents of elderberry, mulberry, eucalyptus and some slight tones of leather and orange zest. On the palate: a well-balanced, medium-bodied wine with juicy plum and red berry fruit with fine-grained tannins and a refreshing acid structure. Finish: satisfying aftertaste with a touch of mint.
