Completely enjoyable. The color is still quite bright and red. Showing no sign of tiring at this time. The bouquet is typical Bordeaux. On the palate the wine is firm and tasting like a ten year-old wine. Amazing for the vintage. Medium tannins and slices. Obvious cabernet and some oak. One we there are a few notes here in this site that alluded to this wine being over the hill. I have had this wine twice now in the last 3 years. I still have 5 bottles. I have no issue with this wine going over the hill. Perhaps a good cold cellar is the reason. I wouldn't see this is the best Bordeaux I have ever had but it is very competent and pleasure giving. No issue with age at this time. Easily another 5 years. I still have Montrose 64 , 67 and 75, all drinking well when tasted 18 months ago.

Mid Jul 2017: intense purple red color; creme de cassis, cigarbox, cedar, spices, herbs and a hint of dark chocolate; medium body; satin-like texture; low acidity; fairy-like freshness; very long, mild finish.

Tasted together with a 2005 Leoville-Barton the 2003 Montrose was for me clearly the more noble and smoother wine. Near at perfection.

This bottle was ready to drink, no need to wait any longer. Having that said, there's no need to hurry since the Montrose 2003 has a prolonged preferred drinking window of at least 15-20 years from now (year 2017). Maybe over time he can develop even more aroma/flavor complexity.

In summary, noblesse and smoothness are the best words to describe an absolut outstanding wine monument.

Sweet licorice nose, cassis, black olives, schoolpaint, very muscular yet well balanced. 4 hrs in the decanter, but it needs more than that...
Still needs time.

A year in barrel has added a lot of complexity, richness, and polish to the wine. There is depth of flavor and concentration now, along with more aromatic complexities. A bt more time of aging could make this even better! This should hit the top of my initial range with ease.

This wine isn't palatable just yet. It needs time and lots of it. The nose and finish are already hynotizing. However, aggressive is an understatement for what it is on the palate. 7-9-17

Perfumed nose of tobacco box, pencil with some fruit of bosenberry. Slight dried green tea. Palate is intense with silky smooth tannin and good acidity. Flavours of pencil and game - quite developed but some serious complexity. 30 second finish - such high quality. This will age longer and develop further but drinking perfectly now. Not sure what could really improve it. A superb wine.

Classic Bordeaux, this was the most beautiful Montrose I have had. The color was dark garnet, with very slight light edge, clear, with just a touch of sediment at the end. The smell was a complex blend of eucalyptus, forest floor, licorice, red fruit, a touch of prune. On the palate the wine was very focused and elegant with red and black currant, earthy, a bit of smoke towards the back. Medium finish that really closed out this wine beautifully. WOTN 95 Points...

Some brick tones to the color that belies it's age. Needs decanting to remove sediment, and it did open up after 1 hour. A classic, pre Parker claret style of mainly red fruits (hard cherry candy), strong earth/terroir, slight mint and tertiary development. Palate is elegant, very well balanced, classic, intellectual Montrose, but not ripe, black fruits. Enjoy now, and I would not age this.

YES-ISH. So there is some development here, but it is still a young wine. The colour is deep dark red and from the carafe the nose seemed really good Bordeaux (oak, pencil stuff). In the glass it seemed to have less substance, thinner somewhat. There was still good aromas and a non-Bordeaux-like a/c hotness (its 13%) and some tannins (young ones). A good wine, but not yet a great wine. Young. Wait.

What some of the tasters and professional tasters have not yet understood is that there are 2 different qualities of the Montrose 2003, there is the original Montrose 2003 which is convincing of its quality and currently has 98 points for me
Original 2003: Deep ruby rattan, violet reflexes, wider rim brightening, delicate earthy spicy nose, dark berry fruit, finely mined mineral. On the palate solid texture, bitter chocolate, fresh, sweet berries, already shows a great length, very typical Terroirnote, sweet core. Possesses enormous potential,

And then there is the bad quality and unfortunately I have to say how to see the reviews there are very many wrong Montrose 2003
This is judged by me with 91 points, the description of the 2 quality we spare here.
I find one should however really times the producers and salesman strict control because what is sold here around 240 euro is an insolence.
The responsible ones should be truly accountable.

Medium red, dark edges. Meaty red fruit, currant and coffee bean. Most intense nose of the night. The flavours are a bit less intense and the finish is very acid driven.

Great nose and a very nice wine for an 04.

OMG this is good! Beautifully open and seductive, with notes of blackberries, cassis, underwood, forest floor, some funky notes too, sweet spices, earth, tobacco and also some animalic notes. Very complex. It's medium-full bodied with excellent mid-palate persistance, medium+ acidity, medium-high tannin that is excellent quality. Super long finish. A super impressive Montrose and one of the wines of the night. It combines an almost Napaish kind of fruit with a classic St-Estephe structure.

Opens up after 4 hours decanting: smell of cedar, plum and cherries. Tannins are integrated and the wine is soft in a medium aftertaste. Red berries, white peppar, cherries and a certain heat from the alcohol.

Christie's Wine Dinner: A Journey Through the Vinkällare of Staffan Hansson (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Open 5+ hours before serving. Black plum with cigarbox and slightly sweet licorice and allspice notes. Meaty and incredibly powerful. Kept getting better for the hour+ in glass. So much better than my last bottle tasted earlier this year.
