Nose: guava, banana, white flower, hints of jackfruit
Notes: I personally think that 2021 whites, despite the critics and winemakers repeatedly claiming this to be a classic Burgundy vintage, is simply a marketing stunt trying to cover the weakness of the vintage to justify the ridiculous price increments. Comtes Lafon is usually a Domaine I enjoy with great body structure and fullness yet I find this to be rather lean and lacks any meaningful substance I find in most other vintages. Charmes being a rich and heavy wine somehow is showing plenty of leaness here and both the nose and palate are quite unbalanced. I can't say I like this wine. It doesn't seem like there's much potential here although I think there could be a longer cellaring for this to improve.

Ordered this expecting the usual Lafon style but was met with a different, albeit interesting experience. I normally associate Lafon with the archetypal creamy silky balanced style of white Burgundy we know and love. On the nose, this appeared to promise just that and too on the beginning of the palate but towards the finish, it was interrupted with an (in my opinion) unwelcomed acidity. I can't believe this Village has ten years under it's belt...

I see another tasting note here stating "finishes with a good zip". I think this is what I experienced but for me spoiled what I was hoping to be that traditional White Burgundy finish. Perhaps this is in style with the 2014 vintage? I am definitely used to drinking the younger solar vintages of 18, 19 & 20. Is this what fans of cooler White Burgundy vintages refer to as freshness?

Still an enjoyable bottle which mellowed out towards the end of the meal but I think this has a lot of life left...I can't imagine this is how Dominque would have wanted it to drink.

Nose: corn, jackfruit, caramel, passion fruit, mango, brioche, yellow flowers, nutty
Notes: it has always been a pleasure to taste the fullness of Lafon yet being very balanced and satisfying. The nose is full of tropical fruits mixed with creamy brioche. Full of intensity and so rich. The fatness and fullness of Lafon has always been something attractive for me and I continue to believe that despite the recent trend of producing lean Meursualts Lafon still kept its traditional style and continues to produce the style I enjoy. Clearly still quite young right now and will take quite some more years to realize its full potential.

Lovely now, Meyer lemon, poached pear, a little custard. Fullish and rich, but showing enough zip to reflect the vintage - but not succumb to it.

Quite a racy and straight chardonnay. Not very opulent. Not so much new wood to it. Contrasted quite a bit with the Chassagne next to it. Good wine.

This was popped and poured, followed over a couple hours after a long week. Knowing we would finish it, I probably should have decanted.

The bottle was perfectly clean and sound. Sort of a right down the fairway expression. Neither reductive or oxidative, balanced without any overly assertive acidity, pretty regal but there is no significant oak on this wine. That’s been my experience so far with Lafon.

Showing a bit of heat upon opening, and seemed to gain some weight with air, which helped, but more concentration would have been welcomed. This 2018 still felt quite young, and yet, I would drink any others in my cellar over the next 5 years.

This was lovely, quite open. Charming fruit with a touch of sweetness but with an energetic finish that keeps it all in balance. More-ish and versatile on the table. Good from now for next 4-5 years.

This smoked! Acquired for a fair price. Great expressive nose, lighter color than expected, tropical fruits, with good lemon curdiness and strong acidic presence. Loved it at this stage.

Robe très ambrée.Bouquet poignant de fruits secs (noisette,amande) et de miel c'est envoutant et virevoltant...La bouche est celle d'un vin parfaitement à maturité qui offre beaucoup de plaisir.C'est franchement réconfortant de goûter cette bouteille.La note n'est pas plus élevée car on sent des rendements généreux qui impliquent un léger manque de densité pour atteindre l'émotion maximale.Cependant,un très bon moment !!!!

Very young and fresh, still needs a bit of time to fully come around.
Fresh and airy nose with warm minerals, white citrus flowers, ripe lemons and honey with some gunpowder on opening.
Palate is superb.
Fresh, intense and structured, lemons and lemon zest, high acidity and wet stones.
This will be great given a few more years to fully develop the secondary notes, but highly delivers at this semi young age.
Knock out wine!

The first sniff reveals pineapple and guava. It is exotic, but it is also gorgeous and perfectly proportioned. It is full and rich, with a creaminess through the mid palate. It offers up so many interesting things with each sip and length and presence is well above its station. Love it!

Power, so deep and broad; there is generous and delicious core of fruit, flamboyantly fat and rich all wrapped in a massive acidity that balances it all out. Times has been kind and the is coming into the zone right now. Absolutely marvelous.
