Spicy cherries drive a fairly powerful core of fruit that is surrounded by bright, textured tannins and ample spicy acidity. So so delicious! |

In my mind there is no comparison for the Brunello made here, vintage after vintage they are in a league of their own. 2015 was a hot vintage, in this wine that heat is expressed through it's incredible intensity and the sweetness and ripeness of the fruit which reminds me of very old vintage port. There is leather and wild berries, and an array of florals and fresh herbs which takes you right to Tuscany. What really sets this apart, however, is that it is ethereal - weightlessness and intense power which are in absolute harmony. This finesse is only found in the very best wines in my experience. Who knows what the ceiling on this wine will be? This certainly has the stuff to be a 20yr+ Brunello. One left to find out! 95+ once it warmed up a bit from cellar temp to low mid 60s. I had mistakenly left it in my chiller bag too long causing a delay in reaching its ideal temp at lunch. My wine of the lunch among several other very intriguing btls. |

What set this apart for me more than anything was the ethereal silkiness of its texture on the mid to back palate. The nose is wonderful - floral, elegant, bright red fruit, also a little herbal. The palate has strawberry / cherry fruit, some restrained but pleasant wood notes (spice), game / savory flavor, and a beautiful sweet tobacco note. 2/1/2024 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRPnP enjoyed over 2 hours. It's always a treat to open one of Stella's wines, and this is no exception. A red NV from Toscana it may be, but they should all have such grace. There are some base notes that ping from small savory kernels, what follows is cool, dark soil, dried herbs, and then pure blasts of cherry-driven Sangio fruit. Each sip was more elegant than the one before, which is always a good thing in my book. Bottled in 2001, I think. Should drink at a high level for many years. 14,0% abv. Grazie, Stella. highly recommended |

We were able to follow this over a couple of hours including with a meal and it showed superbly. There were so many things going on from flowers to fruit to herbs. It really feels artisanal. The most striking thing was the palate feel, at once everywhere but not heavy, silky and refined. This is the 2019 release of an NV blend of lots of different grapes and I was only able to get a few more bottles of any Stella di Campalto afterwards. These wines have become too expensive for me but if you can stomach it and/or see it at a good price, these wines are really singular expressions of Sangiovese Grosso or whatever this blend was. |
