This is utterly fantastic. Rich in flavor, fantastic acidity and a finish that powers on forever. This deserves a spot at the table with some of the best whites being made in the USA today. Second day showing was even better. 96+

Holy smokes was this good! A laser-focused super fragrant wine. Tangerine, peach, butter cream goodness. Super extracted and dense but never cloying. A good dose of acid frames all of it together. The flavor sticks to your gums for over a minute. Great example of fruit coming off the newly planted vines at WeatherEye. Really needs to be paired with roasted chicken or Asian cuisine.

Uggh. Excited to try since I just took delivery this week but obviously corked. Wet cardboard. Lifeless palate. I coravined the bottle. When I took the cork out to dispose of the wine, the cork was stained with wine 3/4 of the way up the cork on one side. Opening my second one immediately to see if I have a repeat issue.

Edit: Popped the cork on the second one and this one is in much better condition. Looking forward to following over the next two days.

This is clearly a QPR winner. I suspect the person that rated it a 84 did not leave any wine for day two. On the first day, the wine was as tight as can be. I poured a glass, put the bottle in the fridge overnight, and then left the bottle on the counter uncorked for all of day two. On day two, this wine is starting to strut its stuff, gaining considerable more weight. Still somewhat muted on the nose but so much more taste than the prior day. Still very tannic and made in a more elegant style than the Myriads I pop frequently. If it had a bit more acidity and a touch more sweetness, it would be a solid 94-95 for me.

This is definitely a wine to put away for several years and the balance is there with no alcohol poking out at any point. You can't go wrong at this price point (under $30). I wonder if I can save any for a day three experience?

Just wow! This was firing on all cylinders! Popped and poured and drank over a two hour meal at Wild Ginger. As soon as the cork was pulled, the wine filled the air around our table. Wonderfully balanced but by no means mature. Still early in its life cycle so there is plenty of fruit there, but this bottle seemed to be much more toned down and integrated than the one I had a few months ago. Just goes to prove, there is no great wine, just great bottles!

Opened for my daughter's 5th Birthday. Amazing how time flies...

Pop and pour. Amazing nose from the get go - high toned cherry, blackberry, roses. Even cinnamon at certain times. The taste is not holding back at all, as everything on the nose is on full display. Tannins are super silky. Over time in the glass (one hour) additional weight is added on. For me there is no reason to hold my last bottle any longer than a year or two more. This is at my sweet spot now! Beckstoffer Dr Crane fruit at its best!

OK..It's the middle of the week and I was in the mood for a big wine. This one was going to get popped sooner than later, so why not today?

Popped and poured. In the glass this is pitch black and right away this is very expressive on the nose - black cherry liqueur, cinnamon, ground pepper, beef jerky, herbs and flowers. The dominating smell just keeps changing with every swirl.

The taste of this wine is equally impressive - the attack is smooth as silk, but the very dense midpalate and finish is where this wine really shines, with fantastic herbs, spices and streaks of ground pepper. Will leave some for tomorrow to see where it goes from here!

Absolutely fantastic! My first Ceritas and I see what all the fuss is about! Pop and pour. Big, rich purple color in the glass, with the nose bringing the high register floral notes. On the palate the wine is refreshingly restrained with black cherry and tea. Terriffic balance and acidity. Blossoms in the glass over several hours. I'm a definate buyer going forward!

Tasted over two days, and was better on day two. Very well made wine, but could be from anywhere. A little VA on the nose, but the interplay of the raspberry and balckberry fruit takes center stage. Deserves a place at the dinner table with some great steak cuts, and could make old bones if held longer, but not really Wine of the Year material for my tastes.

What a pleasant surprise. Found for less than $24 (including tax), and at that price I should buy a case if I can get it. Not for those looking for another fruit bomb, but a pinot that compliments lighter fare quite well. Nice racy acidity, sour cherry dominates.

Edit: Wow! Opened last night and the final glass has gained some serious weight, Much more interesting nose now - spices, raspberry, rocks, cola and more. 90+

2007 Clos Pepe Estate Pinot Noir

Sta. Rita Hills more

8/17/2010 - Red Mountain Man wrote: 91 points

I drink Clos Pepe fruit from many producers, mostly AP Vin and Loring. While I love the extracted profile these two producers do with the fruit, I really love the more restrained and elegant profile this wine has. My preference has been shifting to this style (Rhys and Rivers Marie being my current favorite pinot producers), and I am now commited to getting more of this in the future. I "get it", and while this wine will never stick out in a crowd of wines in a turbo tasting platform, it is exactly what the doctor ordered today with grilled salmon.

There is a lot of acidity with this wine, so make sure to pair it with food!

Popped and poured. Lavender, cherry, blackberries and wet stone on the nose, with some slight VA. Taste full of sour cherries, asian spices and tannins. Still pretty tannic for its age and the fruit will probably fade too fast before the tannins finally meld together. Holding my last bottle for a few more years to see where this ends up.

This is a wine that really delivers what I am starting to like more and more as my wine drinking years pass me by - more earth than fruit, more finesse than power. The tannins have melded and everything is very balanced. No heat exposed anywhere at all, and just fantastic with my rib eye tonight! Still better on day two, I'll let my last one sit until 2012-2013.
