2012 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino Riserva GeminiSangiovese more |
3/31/2024 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 100 pointsFirst of three bottles purchased in Nov 2021. Perfection! Decanted for three hours, but didn't really need it, as the aromas of herbs, black cherries & earthiness were leaping out of the decanter on the initial pour. Dark, rich and full-bodied; lays like velvet on the tongue, with soft sweet tannin on the finish. Served with the Homemade Lasagna course on Easter Sunday. Had to give this wine 100 points because I can't find any aspect that could have been better. Absolutely the deal of the century from LB at $49. |

1/19/2024 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 92 pointsDark purple, full bodied and mouth coating. Black fruits with some spiciness & herbal notes. Good acidity and well integrated tannin. Big wine, more like a Syrah, than a Cab. An excellent value under $20. |

1/1/2024 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 95 pointsFantastic and firing on all cylinders! Served with grilled prime strip steak. Rich color, with minimal bricking. Fruit is still present, with some earthiness and cigar box. Velvety on the tongue, with soft tannin and lovely finish. This bottle was opened a couple of hours before dinner to decant, but it was left it in the bottle, since the wine was already showing lovely aromas on the initial taste. Cork was pristine, with minimal seepage. Lots of sediment. Label said 12.5% ABV, which was quite unbelievable, given how lush and full bodied it was. |

12/17/2023 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 94 points3 hr decant; served with braised Mediterranean brisket. Dark purple, with herbal notes on the nose. Full bodied, yet soft on the tongue, with a velvety mouthfeel. Tannin still showing a slight bit of grip. Excellent pairing with the brisket. Got better as the meal progressed. Perhaps will be even better in another a year or two. |

12/4/2023 - Eantnay wrote: 90 pointsVertical w/2005. Decanted for 3 hours, served with lamb stew. Herbal nose, much lighter in color than expected with evident bricking, little to no fruit, medium bodied, short, slightly tannic finish. A bit over-the-hill, yet still somewhat enjoyable. Drink up. |

7/7/2023 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 95 pointsKiller juice! As soon as I opened my first bottle of this vintage (I've been drinking CVR since the 1998 vintage) to decant a few hours before dinner yesterday, and smelled the aromas as I poured it, I knew it was going to be a winner. This wine is perfectly balanced and a joy to drink right now. Served it with grilled strip steaks and it blew everyone away. At $45 (winery release price), QPR if off the charts! Bravo! |

2019 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Rosso di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
4/24/2023 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 95 pointsFantastic! Upped my score since the last review. Most recent tasting served with Tuscan style grilled veal chops. This wine outperforms in every category. Color, nose, body, flavor, finish - it's all there. Simply the best Rosso di Montalcino I have ever tasted. This wine would easily outscore a good number of Brunello di Montalcino offerings on the market. |

3/26/2023 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 93 pointsTop of cork was clean. Used an Ah-So to remove the cork, which was supple and about 80% saturated. Decanted for about 3 hours. Served with veal stew for my daughter's birthday, since it was made in the year she was born. Shy nose, which eventually offered up some tobacco notes and minty herbs, with a hint of raisin. Good bricking. Held up well. Laid like silk on the tongue. Very enjoyable. |

3/12/2023 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 94 pointsWow! Complex nose of fruit, flowers & herbs, with some earthiness & hint of smoke leaping out of the glass. Deep red color, dark cherry flavors with sweet tannin. An Etna Rosso on the fuller bodied end of the spectrum. Paired with Spanish chorizo, shrimp & tomato squid ink pasta. The wine played perfectly with the heat & smoked paprika in the chorizo. |

3/12/2023 - Eantnay wrote: 89 points3+ hour decant. Served with ground fennel seed encrusted roasted pork tenderloin with roasted grapes. Enjoyable, but disappointing at its price point. Aromas and flavors were there, but very restrained. The finish was good, but short. |

3/10/2023 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 92 pointsAn elegant and extremely enjoyable wine, made in a Burgundian style, representing an outstanding value from WTSO at $16.99. The wine has held up very well for its 10+ years of age. Watch out however, for a lot of tartrate crystals on the bottom of the cork, as well as around the neck of the bottle. |

3/5/2023 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 93 pointsA Rosso that, at this point, could easily pass for a Brunello, at a fraction of the price. Dark red with some bricking, herbs on the nose, black cherry fruit with sweet tannin. Can't ask for more from this wine. |

10/23/2022 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 91 pointsDecanted 3 hours; served with veal stew; Plenty of herbs on the nose, typical of the region, black cherry fruit, full, silky mouthfeel. Comes up short on the finish at this time due to gripping tannin. Well made wine that needs more time to reach its potential. |

10/16/2022 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 91 pointsLight in color, but bursting with aromas and flavor. Very Burgundian in style, reminiscent of red wines from the northern Cote Chalonnaise. Floral and red berry nose, great minerality (as expected from the slopes of Mt Etna), enough acidity to stand up to tomato sauce and sweet tannin. Can't ask for more in a wine under $20. |

10/15/2022 - Eantnay Likes this wine: 90 pointsPnP, drank half with lamb burger, then finished the next evening with sausage & broccoli rabe pasta. Completely closed on the nose, with only some aromas of old oak barrels. Silky mouthfeel, with forest berry flavors and sweet tannin on the finish. Enjoyable, but underwhelming, considering the price tag and 95 point reviews. Hoping that my other two bottles improve with age. |
