4/26/2024 - caspernick Likes this wine: 96 pointsIt's my birthday week so we had friends over for dinner- best friends, so it warranted a nice bottle. I have been sitting on this 5th Growth Bordeaux for 20 years, it's time. |

4/25/2024 - GH_winelover Likes this wine: 93 pointsDinner at Maple & Ash. Decanted for half an hour before drinking. Needed longer as it continues to get better throughout dinner. Excellent nose with cassis and black fruit. Good mouthfeel with less structure and tannin than I expected. Fruit is fading but still primary. Very enjoyable with dinner and did not overpower the steak. Needs a longer decant. |

4/24/2024 - WineTraveler42 Likes this wine: 92 pointsI was surprised by this 2017. Very drinkable right now. Solid performance with all primary and secondary aromatics. Subtle but very nice. Drinks well without food. Nice go to for an easy evening. |

4/15/2024 - NickA Likes this wine: 92 pointsAnother 2004 horizontal (Hawksmoor Guildhall): Same bottle as SimonG, rather than the other notes from this day. Rather brightly-fruited nose, with some graphite coming through. Fresh, elegant and juicily red-fruited on the palate, with a herbal side and a touch of espresso. A compelling wine, and much improved from a bottle I had five years ago. To our surprise, everyone preferred this to the Baron. |

4/22/2024 - americanstorm Likes this wine: 90 pointsOpened at the end of the evening to compare to a bottle of 1995 Pontet-Canet a friend brought. The nose and pallet of both wines were almost identical with the 2014 being slightly brighter/fresher with more acidity. Given the high critic scores of the 14 I expected a great wine but this was average at best and I was underwhelmed. Of the 6 different red, two bottles each of 13 dunn Napa Valley 13 Palo Scavino bric del fiasc 16 torbreck Descendant and 08 circa cab franc, the two Pontet-Canet were my least favorite. Perhaps I'm just not a bordeaux guy or maybe my pallet isn't sophisticated enough (im sure the bordeaux lovers would say this- LOL) to appreciate them, but, at least for me, there are a lot of places making better wine then bordeaux. Would not buy again and not a particularly good qpr. Having said all that, I do think Bordeaux makes the best chardonnay in the world! Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

4/21/2024 - slywka7 Likes this wine: 93 pointsDecanted for over 2 hours. Aromas of cigar box, blackberry, iron and mineral. Flavors of tobacco, blackberry, current, iron and hint of dried plum. Ends with a nice 25-30 second finish. Still in a prime drinking spot. |

4/21/2024 - ShadowIII Likes this wine: 94 pointsDrank blind paired with RdV Lost Mountain 2009, Pontet Canet was more structured, tighter compared with the opulent in your face RdV, but after decant and clearly second day was a great wine with currants, blackberries, graphite, cedar, long finish |

4/20/2024 - Swaggering Beaunie Likes this wine: NRDelicious, well-balanced BDX that is just entering its drinking window. It will age gracefully for years, and I plan to wait a while before opening another. Fruit was a mixture of strawberry and plum, somewhat unusual for a Pauillac. There were adornments of leather and tobacco. |

4/19/2024 - Mili Loves Wine Likes this wine: 98 pointsWOW. This is an amazing wine. Violets and cigar box on the nose, and black fruit, leather, and chocolate on the palate. Silky structured tannins say this wine is in a wonderful place to drink now, but will continue to evolve over the next several years. The best Pontet Canet I have tasted. |

4/18/2024 - Lord of the Bottles wrote: 89 pointsA Private Tasting in London of various varietals: Either this bottle was a little off or the ‘12 Pontets are closing up. Earthy, woody nose. Foursquare palate of wood and blackberry. A bit thin. If I tasted this blind I would have guessed a decent Medoc and not Pauillac let alone Pontet Canet. 89 |

4/17/2024 - Mleh Likes this wine: 95 pointsI opened this at midday and sipped a glass slowly every hour until dinner at 6.30. The evolution was pretty incredible. Started out with a stunning nose of cherries, cassis, tobacco and earth but the palate was all tannin and oak with only a hint of what was present on the nose. After the first hour it improved a lot, I started to get a little fruit and some leather and tobacco but the tannins really dominated still. By about hour four, it had really opened up and was much more balanced. At this point, the nose had somehow integrated all the aromas I first smelled in such a way as to create something really incredible. The palate too had started to reveal more soil, cherries, cassis, leather, tobacco and even some slight savory notes. These integrated further over the next two hours and by dinner it became really one of the better bordeux I’ve had. It feels mature, like it almost perfectly combines primary and tertiary flavors, there is a really nice amount of acidity and tannin and the finish is endless. Sadly this is my only bottle. I have some 2016s that I probably shouldn’t touch for 20 years.. |

3/16/2024 - CorkandFork Likes this wine: 94 pointsAlways a wonderful wine. Beautiful nose of graphite, blue fruits, creamy but not cloying or over the top. Rich mouthfeel, substantial tannins but well integrated. This will age beautifully. Love Pontet wines. |

4/15/2024 - Paul D wrote: 92 pointsJonathan’s 2004 Bordeaux (Hawksmoor, Guildhall, London): This had a lovely classic claret nose with dark fruit and smoky mineral notes. Medium/full bodied, mouth-filling dark fruits on entry, fine tannins, fresh acids, harmonious and long with some savoury meaty notes coming through on the finish. Lovely. |

4/15/2024 - oenanthe Likes this wine: 91 pointsBordeaux 2004 20 years on Part 2 (Hawksmoor Guildhall): Lovely cassis fruit here, plus smoked meat, cedar and pencil lead, this is nicely balanced and quite classical, albeit perhaps less immediately dusty old school desk Pauillac than I was expecting. It's a bit more alive and vibrant than this, youth still on its side. Good bottle, solid and enjoyable, plenty of time in hand. |

4/15/2024 - GeorgeVI Likes this wine: 92 pointsEither this is overrated - or the 2004 is underrated - because I've recently had multiple bottles of both, and for all the hype of the 2000, the '04 is as well made and delivers at least as much enjoyment. Frankly, the '04 actually struck me as having more nuance and character. |

4/14/2024 - winelover1808 Likes this wine: 94 pointsthis was WOTN - had a few weeks ago with friends - each person brought a bottle - this was decanted two hours - really really pretty fruit, good tobacco and pencil lead hints but very medium+ pretty bordeaux sensibility on this. a tad more fruit driven relfecting the hotter vintage and compared to a 2018 CA cab the complexity, elegance and enjoyment on this was much higher |
