4/19/2024 - toppcats@aol.com Likes this wine: 94 pointsReading through the notes here suggesting great bottle variation being noted. Bottle level - low neck. Cork fragmented on removal despite use of a Durand. Nose - strong fruity aroma from bottle --> PnP to glass - beautiful nose of blueberry, blackberry, mint, with a hint of almond (marzipan), and leather. Color - translucent edge --> deep garnet color without bricking. Palate - Black and blue fruits, good acidity, but without a lot of complexity, beyond the fruit, to note on the palate. Mouthfeel - silky, with medium body, and with almost fully resolved tannins ( a touch of mouth dryness noted on finish). Finish is medium length. Wine at maturity with a few years likely yet to go for bottles remaining in very good condition . |

1/4/2024 - Peech Likes this wine: 93 pointsdrank after around 1 hour in the decanter. Very minty, a little smoky, much more fragrant and complex. Amazingly, the tannins are still here and still coating the tongue. Nice and woodsy nose. Sweet and ripe on the palate. |

12/25/2022 - jeff nowak Likes this wine: 97 pointsSee previous notes for the historical aspect of this wine with me. Purchased from Envoyer on a whim. What would this taste like 15 years later? Bottle inspection outstanding. Perfect fill. Decanted. Whoa. Shockingly good. Beyond all expectations. Fully mature. Nice ruby bricking at the rim. I’m past all the flavor descriptors. I thought it was one of the best Napa cabs I’ve ever had. Great vintage and just under the demarcation when the house lost their shit to Parker. Somebody had lovingly cared for this before dumping it on Envoyer. Drunk over 4 hours and it didn’t drop off one bit. At peak. A beautiful wine paired with Flannery roast. |

1/1/2012 - Peech Likes this wine: 94 pointshad just had the 1997 vintage last night, and was curious to compare the two vintages. Decanted for about 3 hours before we got to drinking it. Nose was very grassy, pretty sweet, still pretty alcoholic, smoky, minty with strong notes of herbs. Still a pretty full-bodied wine with good concentration. This wine could easily last another 15-20 years. |

4/14/2022 - Peech Likes this wine: 91 pointsdrank 45 minutes after decanting. Very fruit on the nose at first. Around 1½ hours after decanting this was smoky and not too much sweet fruit. Later on minty and became sweet-ish on the palate. |

Not my style, which is why I stopped buying it long ago, but they probably changed the style for the current( less appealing) trend. If you like the style, the wine should be appealing. |

3/2/2019 - retired_and_roving Likes this wine: NRQ1 - 2019 Tasting - 1995 Vintage Napa Valley (NYC): 7th/16 wines tasted double blind. Color is ruby red and youthful - no signs of browning. This is quite a forward wine with lots of dark and red fruit - but there is still good acidity that keeps it in balance. Clearly a plusher wine but quite balanced in its style and maturing very nicely. |

3/2/2019 - MC2 Wines Likes this wine: NRQ1 2019 Tasting - 1995 Napa (The Apt): Wine #7: Interesting - of all of the wines I think this one might have tasted the youngest. It was in some ways even a bit tight still. Not sure if that was how it was prepped (most of the wines had a decant at the least for sediment before being rebottled). Spice dominated, but lots of good fruit as well. Nice acidity too (interesting how the house style feels like it's changed over time. Can see why it was a popular wine in the 90's. (8 pennies) |

4/8/2018 - MAXIMUM SATISFACTION wrote: 92 pointsThis bottle was a bit over the hill. Cork was clean but stained more of a clear mature color. Initially thin with nothing but damp wood and carmelized red fruit coming through. Eventually it fattened up a bit with some blue/black fruit coming through but nothing like it likely was 5-10 years ago. Drink up. |

2/20/2018 - Neecies Likes this wine: NRBlack fruit nose with pretty nuances of violet typical of the SS bottlings. Reasonable and integrated oak on the palate, complex mid-palate and lasting finish. A very well-preserved bottle, could drink well here for years. |

12/31/2015 - MeToo wrote: NRSmells so seductive, all blackberry/cassis, earthiness. Poured a glass, and I thought it needed to breathe, as it was quite reserved. However other folks didn't want to wait, so it was set aside. Two days later...This wine is beautiful. Thank goodness we saved it. Nose has that beautiful dark berry/cassis aroma with a bit of leather. The wine itself isn’t as forward as the nose, but still has a lovely, rich mouthfeel, big dark berry fruit, bit of dust, violets (?). Leathery tannins are very smooth, and the acidity still keeps the mouthfeel lively. It’s just the teeniest bit oxidized -- it did sit out in the open for two days -- but it’s seriously difficult not to keep drinking this. Wow. |

8/10/2017 - Purple Grillz Likes this wine: 96 pointsRoasted red peppers and watermelon candy are greeting me at the door. In fact, it's starting to spill on to the table, the guests are blushing, this nose is summer food. You drink this when nobody's there. Blueberry pie on private mode just for you and pecan pie spices because you were so wrong for hiding. |

4/26/2017 - acyso wrote: 90 pointsBlind 1995 Bordeaux at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): Served blind in flights of 1995 Bordeaux. The nose on this showed quite a bit of oak, along with some of the attendant aromas: I picked up a lot of coffee on this one. Fairly ripe, with some clear French oak flavours on the palate as well. Of a more riper style, though not to the point that I'd say this was outside of Bordeaux; I guessed this was probably a more modernist producer from the left bank, since I didn't pick up any merlot or franc. |
