4/24/2024 - beatles wrote: NRStill a heavy; alcohol showing (must be more than the 14,5 showing on the back label). Deep ripe fruit, sweet Grenache, Arabian spice, not for the faint of heart, a real Cambie-neuf - makes one think of him, which I guess, is all right. |

7/13/2023 - andrewdodd86 Likes this wine: 98 pointsSeabrook Beach Trip 2023; 7/8/2023-7/15/2023 (Seabrook Island, SC): From magnum. Dense chocolate, leather, some plum and fig/dried fruit notes. Black raspberry. Tobacco. Black pepper. Firing on all cylinders and time to drink up as it did get a touch of earthy funk after too much air. |

12/18/2021 - ChrisR Likes this wine: NRPoured a glass and then double-decanted. The first glass was the best. The decanted portion was shut down by strong tannins. The second day was better, although not quite up to the first glass. Dark berries, charcoal, potpourri and a bit of bitter herbal green. The flavor profile and mouthfeel was fairly typical for Chateauneuf, particularly one with a high proportion of mourvedre. For all the reputation, it was neither heavy nor rich, but it remained tannic and very dry to the end. Tannins more than ripeness marked this bottle. |

W/Mirela/Todd/Valerie (Chez Walker - Princeton, NJ): Main course, served in advance of and with with the "mixed grill" of middle eastern spiced lamb and goat (excellent). Needed something to stand up to the spice. Only bottle of this vintage in my cellar, had been looking forward to drinking. Slow oxed 2 hours, decanted for the last hour. |

7/31/2020 - ChrisR Likes this wine: NRDark berries, charcoal, soy, charred earth, and something bitter, like a bitter green herb. Super-concentrated, not necessarily rich, but dense and deep. Still substantial tannins. Long finish. |

6/3/2020 - Topper wrote: 93 pointsThere is a lot of stuff and substance to this wine but it remains buried under a ton of fruit and tannin. It will be quite good (maybe up to 95pts), but not for several years. It is much less advanced than either the 04 or 05. The 04 is by far my favorite of this trio, but let's see where they all end up. |

1/22/2019 - Magnum PI Likes this wine: 97 pointsI drank this bottle, decanted about two hours prior to drinking, with my friend Antonio, enjoying some malai kofta and garlic naan and mulligatawny soup. Great range of notes, but I didn't get the garrigue that others mentioned, and I was specifically looking for that because to me, that is about the most classic SR note historically. |

5/19/2017 - Jeff Leve wrote: 96 pointsDense, almost edible, the wine is concentrated with layer after of ripe, sweet, fresh, peppery, juicy, dark red fruits, jam and garrigue. Plush and polished, the fruit offered a sensation of purity, along with old vine intensity. This powerful wine is not for the timid. |

10/20/2016 - beatles wrote: 93 pointsQuite similar to the showing a year ago, this is a bold, manly wine; not fleshy and flabby, but dark, rustique, marked my mourvèdre and underneath the rich Cambie-exteriour, there is real chateauneuf in the heart. Now hands off for a couple of years, things to come here, me thinks (with SlagterC' own lamb chops) |

5/21/2016 - retired_and_roving Likes this wine: 94 pointsQ2 - 2016 Tasting - The Rhone! - Another taster's perspective ((The Apt)): #5 of 16 wines tasted (double-blind) at a Rhone tasting. I was on my own in ranking this as my third favorite wine of the tasting. I thought it had just enough nice barnyard funk on the nose and palate, with great tannins. Would like the opportunity to drink again. |

5/21/2016 - MC2 Wines Likes this wine: NRQ2 Tasting - The Rhone! (The Apt): Wine #5: Drank this double-blind (single blind for me since we brought this wine). This was meant to be our ringer - had gotten a recommendation on it from someone at a wine dinner who seemed to have excellent taste. In retrospect, kindof a monster of a wine that needs a much longer decant than we gave it to come together I think (only decanted about 2 hours). Alcohol was much more in one's face on this one than some of the others. Beneath that you could get the red fruits and spice, but I think they were somewhat overpowered. (1 penny) |
