A super bottle on a sunny Friday evening, for Joy's birthday. Lots of bread dough on the nose, and some zesty flashes here and there. More exciting when drunk: it's a delicious wine and beautifully evolved, like wallowing in a giant vanilla cloud. Some elderflower and blood orange, too, and then an extremely long, politely insistent finish. Quintessential fine BdB.

Electric green charge on the nose. And luxrtious on the palate. Soft smooth and full of energy. Youthful.

mid golden color with fine mousse. On the nose you got some roasted almond, pear, lemon peel, bruised apple, mid intensity. definitely on the extra brut side, with mid+ to high acidity, just a little bit harsh on the palate with some pleasant salinity. long finish. good value for a Californian sparkling!

Pale gold color with a greenish tint. Minerally nose with lemon and melon notes. Crisp, full and slightly viscous on the palate. Lemon/lime, green apples, bit of melon, light touch of oak. Nice minerality. Bright acidity, excellent balance. Finishes long and graceful with green apples. Bit richer than previous vintages. Drink next 4 years.

Nose: Rubber, honey, melon, mango, pineapple.
Palate: Peaches and cream. Tropical bomb Medium+ body, high acidity balancing residual sugar. Amazingly complex. I wish I had the patience to properly age this but the heart wants what the heart wants.

Didn't enjoy it as much as Duckhorn... quite a big wine, but the flavors just didn't ring my bell so not a buyer.

Pale platinum blonde with green tint. Citrus, gooseberry, whiff of methane, lemongrass, white flowers, zest, candied orange and minerality. Medium-light to medium body, high acidity, medium-light structure and medium finish. Fresh, light and crisp. Acidity was searing high at the moment where it was etching my palate. Best to wait for a few months before drinking this.

I paired it with 2022 vintage. 2022 was more developed and slightly rounder. Very consistent Okanagan sauvignon blanc. I would not cellar them, and just enjoy them within 2-3 years.

Winery started using screw cap in lieu of cork in 2023. I think it was a wise decision, and I personally preferred screw caps for early drinking bottles. Why use corks when the wines were not meant for cellaring.

Pale amber/gold color. Herbs and bright melon aromas. Rich and crisp on the palate, lemon, pear, apple, bit of mineral. Lovely acidity and balance. Finishes long and gentle with bracing acidity and lemon/lime notes and a bit of salinity. Lovely and refreshing. A bit more on the elegant side than prior vintages. Drink next 3 to 4 years.

The full package
Drank most on day two. Last sip day four.
Great concentration , big fruit mango and all the limes, (lemongrass, kefirlime, as I called asian spices last note). Persistent acidity. No petroleum to speak of this time. More details in last note, although I disagree with myself with the notion that this broadness could speak of an origin further west.

13 months since my last bottle.

Pale platinum blonde with green tint. Gooseberry, lemongrass, citrus, lemon peel, honeysuckle, white flowers and wet rocks. Medium light to medium bodied, high acidity, medium-light structure and medium minerality finish. Fresh and refreshing. A little rounder than a year ago.

I paired it with 2023 vintage together. 2023 was much more acidic and lean at the moment. Also, 2022 used cork and 2023 came with a screw cap, which I much preferred.

I was expecting a lot more. It wasn't a bad bottle by any means but I wont be back anytime soon.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are fast. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like raspberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long.

Last of the Dags that Didier made. Light golden color. Definitely shows its age and darker than what I remember from what I remember a few years ago. Nose of beeswax, ripe peaches, and jackfruit. Fuller bodied than what I recall as well, but it could be just the perception of drinking next to much younger SB and chards. Stone fruits. Good acidity. Reminds me of an aged Viognier. It was the group's WOTN and life-changing to a few. I think I prefer when it was five years younger.

Mums!

Ripe red cherry fruit, unfortunately came across as highly extracted, maybe borderline Kirsch aromas even. The nose failed to excite. The palate shows fresh fruit, strong presence, full body, good length - but the fruit was clos to cooked. What a let-down after the impressive bottle only a few days earlier.

Intense blueberry fruit, peppery spice, iron and iodine minerality, minty or eucalyptus elements and even hints of Chrstiman spice. Fresh and fruit-forward palate, still pretty wild and rustic and needs another up to 10yrs I would guess. But a beauty already today.

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. Wet leather, intense cherry and black currant fruit. A mature and settled wine, perfectly balanced with compelling verticality. Densely knit and softly textured palate. However, an abrupt finish as a let down.

Just excellent, 3rd time to have it. Clean, light gold, crisp, not overly fruity, appropriate acidity. not cloying.

A winner without food

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. Wow. This is at its absolute peak and easily the best 1988 Bordeaux I‘ve had to date. Rose petals, blueberry, cherry, pencil shavings, spice, liquorish. Perfectly underlined by tertiary notes, moss and underwood. Good structure, perfectly integrated tannin, harmonious and sufficient fruit.

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. Dried leaves and cloves. Rather extracted fruit of dark cherry and dried strawberry, but pretty much suppressed and only present in background. Notes of anis and minor add-ons of mint and savory notes. Rather sandy and marginally coarse tannin. Lacks breadth. While a good wine still and clearly from good descent, this came in well below expectations. Either this was closed, or then the fruit is already disappearing suggesting either premox or overextraction.

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. Initially somewhat reductive. Amazing depth with meaty base notes, intense sour cherry fruit, charcoal minerality and spicy top notes. Juicy, primary and perfectly ripe fruit. Impeccable presence and a decent length finish. An outstanding Schlossberg that will only get better with age.

This is definitely a wine to hold in my opinion, because I have now had it in sips over four days and it’s only now opened up. It started up a tight, gunpowdery thing with a promising bouquet, but is now mellow, generously fruity and caressed by discreet oak. Treat it like a barolo. (90-93 p)

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. First out of the gate oxidative. Pear distillate, Marillenschnapps – plenty of heat (15.5%). Tiny bit of a sweet edge into the finish. Sherry-like. This is a hardcore wine that requires a very specific taste.

Medium ruby-red color with some purple at the rim. Fresh aromas of blackcurrant and ripe cherry with some sottobosco. Medium-full bodied with fresh acidity and chewy-smooth tannins. A long finish that remains fresh.
Still quite young and fresh, but doesn’t seem to have the structure to improve a lot. Drink now - 2028.

A bit less complex than I expected.

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. Nice fresh herbs and almost spearmint-like notes that add a fresh angle. Traces of petrol. Fruit of green berries, green grapes, gooseberry and kiwi. Good acidity structure, but a bit of a step-down in the mid-palate. Ends with a citric finish. Very early days.

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. Dark forest honey and hazelnuts and toffee. Candid stone fruit and apricot. Dense with quite some weight to it on the palate, further nutty elements and nice acidity. Oxidative style, not necessarily my taste to be honest, although there is a place for this if you have a sophisticated, off-piste kind of palate.

At Schwarzer Adler in Vogtsburg. Waxy undertones. Stone fruit, marille and clementine. A settled and calm wine with mineral notes of cold ash. Round palate with very nice acidity, adding just the right amount of freshness. Expands even with a bit of aeration. A nicely aged Pinot Gris, but probably also as good as it gets.
