First of 6 purchased after drinking one off the list at Daniel (NYC) back in 2012. Drank at Chez Nous in Charleston and this has entered prime drinking window. Tannins fully resolved and both primary and secondary fruits are now evident. Open or hold.

An excellent bottle of this. We tasted this right after a Les Cailles 2011 the day before and tonight it was better the the highly regarded Les Cailles (that was admittedly from a much more difficult vintage). Deep, ripe and aromatic, this is showing pretty notes of dark plum, red and dark red cherries, sweet spices, leather, some gamey animalic notes, licorice, candied violets. It‘s medium-full bodied, with medium+ acidity and medium- tannin that is super ripe and integrated by now. Beautifully layered and deep, this is just singing tonight. Long finish with excellent balance.

Ruby center. Floral, mixed fruit, earth nose. Medium to light weight. Delightful mixture of plum and blueberry fruit that is none too ripe and buttressed by excellent acidity, especially for the year. Superb interplay of fruit and soil, low tannins, and beguiling softness. This is completely ready and as seductive as every previous bottle has been, as unusual as it is to describe Nuits this way. Who could ask for more?

Developing beautifully - deep dark fruit - plum and black cherry - framed by wet damp cave minerals, forest floor after a fresh rain, and licorice elements. Stunning.

Ruby without much development. Both aromatically and in the mouth, an excellent balance of green herb and blueberry fruit. Round but not a bit too fat or rich with a nice dash of soil even if this is not the earthiest Nuits ever. Should reach its peak in 2 or 3 years, but fine early drinking now.

Another really pretty bottle of this. Open, ready to go and seductive, with notes of dark red and dark cherries, sweet spices, licorice, some flowery notes, musky, gamey animalic notes too and some earthy minerality. It‘s medium-full bodied, with medium+ acidity providing a lot of freshness and medium tannin adding some grip. Long finish. A very pretty, peak-drinking Chaignots that is super seductive now and will drink well for the next 5-7 years.

This is very easy to drink. Not boring and not overpowering. Very ripe fruit, silky texture and just a tad of pepper at the finish. Not a great wine, but a very good wine. If you can buy it for under $100, I think it is a good wine for the price.

Holidays 2018 (Dogwood Grove): Entered this into the lineup so that the French "Big 3" regions were represented on the menu and to offer a contrast to the California pinot I was serving alongside. This was more youthful and alive than the other French wines. Complex and concentrated with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and smoked meat. Good freshness, ample tannins, sustained finish. Exudes oaky masculinity. Might have wanted to see a bit more acidic verve, and on this night anyway, the California pinot I paired it with shined with its sun-infused fruit just a bit more.

Burgs at Spoon (Spoon & Stable, Mpls, MN): Medium dark red color. Slow-O for an hour plus; drank a couple glasses over 90 minutes. Showing very well again, a nice sense of purity, good mid-weight body, a great nose with distinctive floral notes and crushed spices, deep red fruits, and only a subtle sense of earth currently, very attractive.

Darker color with more brown notes than a 2011 LeClerc Chambertin Les Corbeaux tasted alongside. Nose of this wine is Pinot, earth and mushroom, some berry fruit, hints or orange, tea. Palate is also earthy, with some chalkiness evident over ripe but not broad fruit. Old world for sure, but also a more modern style with clean fruit tastes and no off components. Will serve well with the bougignon that will be on the table shortly.

How did I miss out buying this vintage of the Chaignots??? I've also had some other stellar 09 Chevillons too. I'll see what's around and look to grab a couple of these for myself. Once again another either over achieving or underappreciated NSG from Chevillon. Poor Chevillon. One of Burgundy's greatest producers saddled with the less sexy NSG designation. Still, the wines made here from Chevillon, take a back seat to no one. They're usually deeper and fuller than many Burgs but still show great balance and elegance exactly as this one does. Shows the richer ripeness of the vintage but still with lift, energy and minerality in spades. So fresh and vibrant! This wine stood out for me amongst several excellent peers for its ready to go drinking and yet showing plenty of depth and range like you might find in a more mature wine. The Chevillon tough! As my buddy Dave says... "did I tell you how much I love Chevillon". He owns most of the 08s sold into our market :). Thanks to David for bringing! Same btl as R&Rler. Agree with his assessments.
A Quite Remarkable Night (Spoon & Stable, Mpls, MN): Medium red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. What a great young Chevillon this is. This is really open for business. No shutdown here on a PNP. The most striking thing is the aromatics that are almost staggering with a purity of rose petals that is unreal. Subtle leather, earthy, spice, depth, darker red and hedging to some black fruit, long and very approachable now. I'm not sure if this is going to shut down, but sure drinks well right now. 93(+)pts.

Nice ruby color. Very seductive aromatics of sweet dark red cherries, licorice, sweet spices, but also some mild animalic notes, a touch of iron, but it's mostly sweet red and dark red fruit doing the seduction here. With some time in the glass there are also some menthol and musky notes emerging. It's medium-full bodied, sappy with great medium+ acidty and medium+ tannin that still has a little edge. Good length. A sexy, seductive and sweet Les Chaignots at the beginning of its drinking window. What a pleasure to drink. It doesn't have the complexity of Les St-Georges or Vaucrains but it's so yummy and beautiful already.

Cherries and anise on the nose. Earthy. Tannic and acidic, this has stuffing to allow for some lengthy cellaring. Brambly and grippy finish. Bigger and darker, but in balance. 13.5% abv.

Dark fruits on the nose dominated by blackberry and black cherry complemented by sweet spice, dark earth and distinct mocha notes. Traces of beef bouillon. Quite approachable. Smooth in the mouth with just a little bit of grip on the backpalate.

Nuits St. Georges-Mostly Chevillon and Mugnier (Beltramo's, Menlo Park): More spice and earth aromas than any of the 2011 Chevillons. Some funk. Medium ruby. Cherry, lots of soil. Fuller feel, slightly sweeter fruit than in the 2011s, some light herbs, sound acidity and tannins, good penetration. I liked this much more than the '09 Mugnier, and again, a really nice showing for one of the Chevillons not in "the big three".

Chapeau!

The wines begins reserved and somewhat disjointed. The aromatics show dark fruit, spice and earth notes that require airing to develop. The color is a dark ruby that is appropriate for the wines age. The medium (full) bodied palate starts off reserved with a short to medium length finish. Airing brings better overall harmony and lengthens the finish. This will require at least a couple of years of bottle age to sort itself out and add complexity and nuance.

Spice aromas predominate with hints of cherry. Somewhat one-dimensional flavors which reflect the aromas. Perhaps it's closed down. After 20 minutes or so in the glass it opened up and started to show more character.
