Another great wine dinner with Bernard Burtschy (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Expressive nose displaying perfectly ripe yellow fruit, lemon curd, honey, honeysuckle, a touch of oak/vanilla, spicy spices and crushed rock. Perfectly integrated palate, nicely layered yellow citrus fruit, although ripe, cool, pure and harmonious, perfect amount of acidity, strong limestone mineral, and a long ripe but cool yellow fruit driven mineral finish. Bernard educates us that the vineyard is situated at the top. This is drinking incredibly well.

Dinner at Teochew Paradise. No notes taken. Nice bouquet, vanilla on the nose. Full with rich ripe fruits. Quite generous, but fresh and focused, not flabby. A lovely wine.

Exotic floral and tropical fruit nose with hints of vanilla; dry citrus flavors followed by hint of toasty spice followed by clean acidity and a trace of toast in a long finish that ends with mineral notes. Complex and layered.

A complex and aromatic bouquet of ripe fruits, mango, white and yellow floral, exotic spice and some flint. Very nice nose. On the palate it is showing a nice balance of lemon and lime citrus, stony fruits with a nice creamy layer on it. It is medium bodied and nothing is too heavy here. In addition it unveils a nice sappy layer of acids that keeps the wine dancing in your mouth. Great quality for the price and is very enjoyable now although it will still benefit from a bit of ageing.
La 1ère bouteille bue récemment était nettement meilleure. Ici, on goûte la chaleur, et la bouteille est nettement plus évoluée que l'autre. J'aime tout-de-même beaucoup ce vigneron.

Saturday Evening with Robin (Sutherland Farm): Light perfume with notes of mineral, smoke and lemon zest. Fine, mineral-laden acidity with crushed oat bran texture. Beautifully elegant and defined with a long tail. Finely chiselled, attractive wine. (Tasted in a rush)

A stunning chardonnay with citrus aromas and hint of vanilla, great balance and a fairly long, silky finish. Wow! It will lay down another 5+ years and become super-creamy and elegant! Sipping via Coravin.

Color: Golden Yellow Nose: Mint, licorice, citrus, chalk, lees and spice in layers Mouth: Soft tangerine, mouth coating glycerin, chalky minerality and crisp acidity very well balanced Overall: Great structure, purity and delineation. Drink now if you must but this will certainly reward another 3 or so years of patience, and has the structure to go on for another 15 years. This was introduced to me by Olivier Daubresse of Vinifrance Imports - thank you Olivier!

Chassin Tasting Event at Ouverture (Ouverture Restaurant, Stellenbosch): This winery whole-bunch presses (Add 35-40 ppm SO2 at press) to tank (no settling) and allows the natural ferment to begin immediately. Once commenced and the heat of the initial ferment has subsided (and the juice is then cooled slightly 15-17ºC), the fermenting must is racked to barrels. Used 25% new oak and 75% 2nd-fills. Receives 3-5 bâtonnage until the end of MLF. Then cool down and mature for 8-12 months in barrels. The wine is pure and lifted with notes of herb, smoke and white stone fruit. Fresh on entry, this light-bodied Chardonnay is delicate and taut with a little of the 2009 richness to compliment it. Not so much mineral as a herb infusion with white peach and lively acidity. Delicious

2020 New Year's Day Tasting $150-$250 Double Blind (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Lots of buttered lemon, high toned limestone, bordering on grilled lemon and butterscotch, feels plenty ripe, some smoky oak and a beam of vanilla; solid but shows solar year.

Evening with Edouard Labeye at Winery of Good Hope and some smart bottles (Winery of Good Hope): Perfumed aromas of mineral and smoke. Finely chiselled acid, cut of mineral with crushed stone and oat bran. A beautiful, elegant wine that weaves around the palate. racing to finish so didn't finish the note but a cracking wine!
