Good but still feels a bit tightly wound up. Drank alongside a Conterno Barolo Bussia Cicala 2012 and 2008 Oreno. Started slowly but improved with time in the decanter. Hit its straps when the cheese came out. The fruit is there but is coming up against pretty high wall of acid right now. Leave alone - for years...

Opened at 3pm, pour away 250ml (for tomorrow) and leave bottle to stand. Tried at 7pm, not yet open. Poured 250ml via electric Vinaera into small bottle and let stand. 9pm, better now, but clearly more to come. (Dark cherry, floral, herb, savoury complexity, incredible full bodied but somewhat muted for now. High acidity like most bunellos)
Now 10:30, nose similar, palate giving much more now.

Opened in the morning, then decanted 90 minutes before tasting. Elegant, feminine, built to last for decades, tart berries and underbrush. Very early drinking window, still really tightly wound. On one hand, hard to justify the QPR. On the other hand, hard to quibble with much of anything with this maker. If I had any complaint at all, it would be that it's a little too cerebral to pair with food. Outstanding any which way.

Rushed this one out of the cellar so probabaly should have left to settle at room temperature longer than I did and only gave it an hour or so of air. Could have done with more. Last glass the best. Very tightly wound up but with lovely sharp fruit and amazing length. No hint of age being an issue so plenty more room for this to develop. Acidity still a little too prominent. Great potential.

1/4, excellent cork. Decanted 1/2 hr. Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Fragrant nose, red cherry fruit, spice, florals. Medium/full bodied, bright and elegant with spicy red fruit, very fine tannins, decent depth, a touch of liquorice, vibrant acidity carrying a very good length, fresh, elegant finish. This is lovely, drinking well, though no hurry.

Drank with Razza pizza at Eric's in JC. Everyone really loved it. I've had a lot of brunello over the years and this is undoubtedly the best. Last of my 2006. Hopefully the 2007 and 2010 will live up to this.

Other tasting notes sounded very encouraging. For me, 06 Brunello as a vintage has been as stubborn as 2005 red Burgundy. This one felt a bit closed and unforthcoming even with a 3 hour slow ox in glasses nd bottle. Disappointing for the producer and nearly 15yrs in.

Decanted 3 hours, but needed 4+ and just does not seem ready yet. Tart red cherry, intriguing nose of red fruit, some earth and framing wood, but this just seems to need some time. Will be a very elegant Brunello once ready, but seems a few years+ away from that. A-?
The 2006 is wonderfully accessible right now and opened up properly after about two hours of air. Clear ruby colour with a nose of cherries, tobacco, vanilla and fresh strawberries. The palate was packed with red fruit carried by silky tannins with a well balanced acidity. This was simply stunning.

Upon opening there was a strong whiff of kalamata olive and the vinegary brine it sits in. In the glass it was more tar and a bit of cherry/almond.
I really liked the balance of acid, tannin and fruit at this point and there is still a hint of youth and freshness. I am not going to rush but I am going to drink up my remaining bottles sooner than later as to my palate it's in a perfect place.

First bottle out of the case and very nice too. The aroma is knockout. Nearly matched on the palate but the acidity is still a little high. This will surely soften so I won't touch another bottle for a couple of years but I suspect the best bottles will come a few years after that and be fabulous.

This is certainly classic Sangiovese; beautiful nose with red fruit, anise, mineral, leather, mint, and floral notes. The palate is good, but actually lacks a bit of depth through the middle. Not sure if this will come back with more age or not. Still overall very good, but not quite what I'd expect from Biondi.

Opened to a weird pruny, highly sweet aroma and taste. Had to swirl for quite a while, as the evening progressed this wine opened up quite a lot. It might need a couple hours, and certainly should be decanted.
After an hour... Color is medium red with bricking around the edge. Nose is complex, black cherry, tomato, herbs, a little smoke, oregano. On the palate, beautiful elegant sweet cherry fruit, no prunes, smoke, tar, chalk on the mid palate, long finish. Medium tannins still. This could last a while longer easily.
What is compelling about this wine is the complexity of flavors and aromas, but the body overall is medium.

Drank blind vs. '07 Biondi Santi. Surprisingly '06 was a little more feminine and floral even though a biggish wine. I am hoping this will get much better with time so wait until at least 2018 to drink another and drink the '07 for now.

Drinkable now, will surely get better and better. Bring Brunello to mind, and brunello is obviously many wines, and the Biondi surely satisfies. In a primary phase now, will look forward to seeing it in 7-10 years. Have to hide it away from my prying fingers.

Very interesting to taste this next to the 2010. Not surprisingly a bit more evolution in terms of colour and on the nose - more expressive and open, earthy, herbal, sweet tobacco notes, smoke. On the palate again elegant and very well balanced, fresh and bright. There is nothing out of place - very harmonious and long. Good future. 94-95+

Medium garnet. Quite dense color for a Sangiovese. Closed on the nose and very reductive on the palate for now, opening a bit after some aeration, much more after 2h. Aromas of dark fruit, fresh plum and a touch of pine. Very fresh with sappy acidity, great elegance and length. This is a wait though. Drink 2018 onwards.

Drank with home made lasagna. Nose has a bouquet of roses, palate of cherry, cranberry, and strawberry all combined. Long finish, balanced acidity and tannin. My wife and I both agree - wines such as this are why we drink brunello. Can't wait to see where this goes over the next half-century.

Åpnet 3 timer før konsum, helt over i karaffel siste timen.

appealing...brownish..iodine. roses, dried herbs, dust, dirt, earth, fermented DRY leaves, garrigue, pain grillé, brown sugar, rootage, only a sweetish hint of licorice, tomato leaves, resin, yerba mate, pine cone, tea - exquisite selected and coordinated herbs, incence, flowers, bushes, ethereal.. forest; hearing an echo of a honey flavor that shall come once...strong lavender.. finally, frutti di bosco (pickled in a rose petal gelee), stringy fresh cured meat, leaves, tobacco - very silent but long lingering... red fruit compote mulberry, red fruit, rosemary.. hidden oak and spices, everything nicely packaged and dosed! surprisingly open for a brunello, good vintage!
Ap: Dark ruby red Ar: Roses, forrest floor, olives and dark cherries. Extremely delicate use of oak. Light to medium bodied. Very lean and defined. Still partially hollow on the palate, so I guess more cellartime is needed. Very good length

My very first test of Biondi and far from these Brunellos made for Parker and the US market.

My friends and I really enjoyed this wine. The producer recommends opening the bottle at least 8 hours prior to tasting, pouring a little off the top, and letting it sit for the day. We did exactly that, and it opened up wonderfully. Very pure expression of brunello, with so much amazing history behind it. I'm sure you can probably find equally as good a brunello at half the price point, but we certainly weren't disappointed with the wine. I will be buying more.

Really hard to rate at this point - I know this producer is notorious for needing a ton of bottle age though. This really does need time to come together and gain some weight. This was superbly balanced though. Can't say this wine is worth the tariff at this point, but I also dont have any experience with older Biondi Santi BdM.

Unsure if there was some fault in the bottle here, as i only tasted a small glass at an enoteca. Some funk on the nose, with red cherry and red raspberry underneath. Rather closed. Palate is yielding very little, just some primary red fruit and acidity, and a strange hollowness in the midpalate which i was not expecting. Needs a ton of time to come together and flesh out. Not rated as i dont know if the bottle was representative, but based on this showing if it doesnt improve with time, this is 89-90 points max.

Italy 2012; 10/6/2012-10/23/2012: Tasted at winery, described as a "classical vintage" Darker than the rosso. SUPER smooth. Strawberry, cherry. Definately red, not black, fruit. Fruit followed by tannin. Excellent length

The nose showed whiffs of brown sugar with dark raspberry fruit and hints of herbs. On the palate, it showed impeccable balance, with a core of rich red fruit. The finish was long, yet structured, and promised many years of upward development.

Drank blind vs. '07 Biondi Santi. Surprisingly '06 was a little more feminine and floral even though a biggish wine. I am hoping this will get much better with time so wait until at least 2018 to drink another and drink the '07 for now.

Served too warm so difficult to assess. Remember enjoying it nonetheless. Drank at Max in Positano.

Harsh and leather at opening, then later on it implodes, no palate. Gone glory

Åpnet 3 timer før konsum, helt over i karaffel siste timen.

classic brunello comin through, what a smell!
appealing...brownish..iodine.
roses, dried herbs, dust, dirt, earth, fermented DRY leaves, garrigue, pain grillé, brown sugar, rootage, only a sweetish hint of licorice, tomato leaves, resin, yerba mate, pine cone, tea - exquisite selected and coordinated herbs, incence, flowers, bushes, ethereal..
forest; hearing an echo of a honey flavor that shall come once...strong lavender..
finally, frutti di bosco (pickled in a rose petal gelee), stringy fresh cured meat, leaves, tobacco - very silent but long lingering...
red fruit compote
mulberry, red fruit, rosemary..
hidden oak and spices, everything nicely packaged and dosed!
surprisingly open for a brunello, good vintage!
extremely balanced - outstanding!
legend!
94-96
savoury
this wine should be opened 2020

Tasted at VINOSUS, Oslo, 18/3-14
Ap: Dark ruby red
Ar: Roses, forrest floor, olives and dark cherries.

Biondi Santi by Juanjo Asenjo (Enoteca Barolo - Madrid): Watery rims, pale cherry colour.
Closed nose more mineral, some red meat but again too few to mention.
Acid palate. Quite inexpressive to me.

Darker than the rosso.
