  • Slow oxed for 8 hours the into a decanter for another two. Cork is extremely long and barely saturated. Totally opaque with no browning or lightning at the edges. When I poured it into the decanter you could smell the barnyard funk, and dark fruits. In the glass you get the first smell of barnyard funk then the sweet deep red fruits and a nice smoky overtone supported by some sweet cranberries. It seems very young but the tannins and acids are in balance. None of the garden vegetables as they have totally resolved. IMHO this is in an early drinking window, especially compared to my 2004 & 2005’s. I’m sure this will get better in my glass over the next several hours and evolve over the next 10-15 years. Love these wines as the age.

A few hours on. The wine displays a bit more fruity profile of sweet cranberries and has lost the barnyard funk but it’s still a berry young wine that’s as black as night. Seems to have gathered more power. I’m going to leave the rest of my ‘09’s several more years before pulling another cork.

Saved a glass for dat two - the wine does not show any sign of oxidation. It just as good as yesterday, maybe a bit smoother but maintains the same flavor profile. Tannins and acids have smoothed out a bit. A bit better which leads me to believe that there is room for more improvement.

  • Excellent bottle, long cork showing some incursion of wine about a third of the way up. Full bouquet of pasture, capsicum, menthol, cedar, leaping out of the glass, such a classic ripe Loie Cab Franc. Slatey black currant palate, rounded in the middle, with a line of tobacco slicing through the dark yet fresh fruit. Fine texture, excellent energy driven by an impulse of acidity, very long finish of herbs, dark chocolate and pomegranate, elegant. Tannins have a bit of astringency, but I think are tracking to resolve in the next decade.

Plenty of development, yet there is no hint of tiredness: this is in early maturity still. Drink now with short decant, or hold 5-10 years. Even 10 years might be conservative.

  • Almost a year since the last bottle. Slow oxed all day then into a decanter for a few hours. Nose muted and it seems that this bottle is just off a bit. Not corked but not pristine. It feels out of focus. Very vegi nose and no secondary flavors that I’ve had with my other cab francs. I’m going to have to open an ‘05 and see where that is. No rating, just disappointed.

  • The cork (which was weirdly long—almost two inches) was soft with a tiny bit of leakage, but the wine was excellent. Deep and inky with lovely texture, but then all the brambly, herbaceous notes you expect with Loire cab franc as well. This cuvée is well worth cellaring.

  • Opened at lunchtime for dinner tonight but had to pour a small taste. Dark brown crimson that fades a bit at the edges. Has that beautiful barnyard nose, sweet funk and vegies that are so typical of Cab Franc's. It tastes of brambley red fruit, barnyard, vegies and crunchy red berries. Really nice. Got better and better over the evening. Great QPR only draw back is the cellar time needed to bring these Cab Francs to drinkability. beautiful food wine.

  • “Effusive” is an apt term for the nose, which shows lots of ballpoint ink and currant, with some barnyard in the background and maybe a faint hint of wood char. The palate exhibits plenty of juicy red and black berry fruit that still retains lots of freshness, along with some typically herbal notes. There’s an interesting disjunction between the mouthfeel, which is quite elegant (and which would compare favorably with plenty of classified Bordeaux), and the aromatics, which are on the wild side. I like it very much, and am happy to have more. I also think it provides evidence in favor of the vintage, which seems to be evolving beautifully.

  • Still a bit sauvage, bit quite nice. Better on night two. 13.5%

  • Really enjoying this wine. Seems to have retained some of that freshness of sweet darker berry fruits with a bit of pleasant funk on the opening. Forest floor, greenness/slight dill, drying/dusty tannins, and creamy mouthfeel. A green/herbaciousness on the finish. Touch of minerality. Overall, well balanced, medium length finish.

  • Wonderful wine. Forest floor, greenness/slight dill, good darker berry fruit, drying/dusty and creamy mouthfeel.

  • A dark and wild kind of Loire cab franc. Surprisingly dense black fruit, with a ton of forest floor and a mix of both vegetal and animalic funk. Good acidity and minerality, as can be expected. I feel it could still use a couple more years to polish off the edges, though.

  • Particular wine, still look very young, some carbonic gas, tanins still very strong, pleasant, but with strong character, animal.

  • oak stands out but rich ripe fruit is clean.

  • Effusive nose reminds me of the "au pied de la Butte" offering from Blot, but with more intensity and somehow more gravitas (seems odd to say that a bouquet has gravitas, but that is how it struck me). Wide open with concentrated, sweet blackcurrants, very slight herbaciousness and quintessential cab franc funk. A strong supporting line of acid which counterbalances the ripe fruit nicely. Wide open for business now but will keep and possibly add complexity with more time in bottle. Another amazingly delicious qpr from Blot.

  • A deep colour; quite full, vibrant fruit on the palate, lacking a little roundness, but with reasonable length. No sign of the earthy, rustic element we encountered in some earlier bottles, although there is a slight fizziness which makes the wine seem a bit unstable. No sign of age.

  • Decanted. In a bit of a closed phase. Odd and funky initially but opened nicely toward the end. Would decant for 2-3 hours or hold for a few years. Definitely has the tannin to last. 13.5%

  • Exciting, delicious, and exceeds expectations. Dark ruby toward purple, with a deeply focused nose of wondrous typicity of Bourgueil and the Cab Franc variety. Full-ish, with elegant lines and ample, fresh acidity, this is positively delicious, and I find myself pouring/re-filling my glass in no time at all. After the so-so experience with Blot's lesser bottle from the same vintage just a few weeks ago, my faith is restored, and then some. I will keep my final bottle safe for a time certain that it can be shared with good friends whom I know will appreciate this fine effort. 13,5% abv., thru 2025. recommended

    PnP, served non-blind; totally ready

  • I've had several wines from the Loire lately, and this was such a departure. I guess this is one of those cab francs you leave alone for a decade. This was overpowering, dark and somewhat unyielding. I have another bottle and I'm going to forget about it for as long as possible.

  • We drank two bottles of this over three nights. It is still quite youthful, with fresh, vibrant fruit and some depth of flavour. However, it lacks complexity, is a bit short on the finish and we were not keen on a rather earthy, rustic quality. Perhaps this will go with time, but at present we are not that enthusiastic. We much preferred the 2005.

  • Au restaurant. Non carafé, servi à 15 degrés, bon choix. Couleur cerise noire, moyennement brillante.

  • This is quite lively, with youthful fruit, good depth and a fresh acidity. However, the wine seems slightly unstable and I am not sure whether time will make it settle down or fall apart.

  • The cabernet franc is vibrant and full, with a fresh acidity, but the wine seems a bit unsettled and perhaps not fully in harmony yet. Not sure whether it ever will be.

  • Attractive, ripe nose. The palate is a curious mixture of sweet fruit and an acidic streak, with perhaps some tannin on the finish. It doesn't seem that well integrated at the moment. Not sure how it will develop. Not as good as the 2005.

  • For the fan of cabernet franc. Remarkably crisp, considering the mass of fruit. Red fruits tinged with tomato leaves; almost a tarragon and mint note on the finish. Tannins are refined, though still quite up front. Layers of complexity here. Will be at its best in a couple of years, but remarkably good right now. Serve at 18C. Drink now-2018. Food pairing idea: roast pork with dark fruit compote.

  • Very Burgundian in style similar to Baudry, but would cost 2-3 times as much if it were Burgundy rather than Loire CF. Aromatically lifted, roses, blackberry, menthol, soy sauce and petrol are present. Not a monster on the palate, but deeply structured with med/high acidity and a fine layer of tannin. Fruit is pomegranate and black currant. Pronounced iron-infused minerality. Already quite fine aromatically, but could use at least a few years to unwind the structure.
