Complexity improved with lengthy decanting of half a 750 on Day 1. This note is based on the remaining half bottle poured in a 375 and tasted next day. Really improved in complexity. Light raspberry juice color. Flowery and herbal aroma. Moderately concentrated red cherry/red plum taste with good acidity that carries across the palate. Mid-palate, some caramelized sugars emerge followed by an herbal spicy finish (suggesting some stems) with just a good amount of dusty tannins and a graphite minerality. Definitely more than meets the eye and quite delicious.

Upon opening, a nose of campfire, spicy raspberries and a touch of green pepper. The palate is a two dimensional core of raspberry/cherry fruits and cola rising along an earthy and smokey axis. The supporting backbone of tight acidity and fresh fruits create a good balance.

Cloudy initially. Fruit forward but nice and enjoyable. Juicy red fruit. Simplistic on palate, but again, very easy drinking and delicious. Appreciate it for what it is - a solid mid-level Cali Pinot Noir.

Popped and poured, consumed over an hour or two. Consistent with rgcm gananda's notes, so it's holding steady at a pretty nice spot-- not sure there's any rush, as there was still a bit of tannin grip and bitterness.

Red berry and cinnamon notes on the nose. Medium bodied with excellent, acidity (rather than tannin) dominant structure. Red berry and red cherry upfront with an edge of crispness due to the acidity. Gains weight through the middle with softer, deeper red cherry, cranberry and overall slightly tart red fruit towards the back. Mineral, earthy and cinnamon notes on the finish. Overall complexity, balance and structure make this a very enjoyable wine at present. May improve ever so slightly with additional age, but there's no real reason to delay. While this wine has staying power, it will endue, rather than improve and as such, is worth drinking over the next 18 months so as to not miss this stage.

Medium body. Red fruit. A little more age has mellowed the heat and allowed cloves and earth to come through. Still fruit forward but more balanced. Nice wine.

Opened and poured, this bottle gave a similar showing with some added maturing elements, to last experience with this wine. The bouquet shows spice and red fruits notes with some underlying maturing earthy elements. The color is a tarnished medium ruby. The medium bodied palate shows a bland of youthful and maturing red fruits with medium length finish. The wine shows moderate structure on the palate with some acidity on the finish. This is most likely at or around its peak.

Medium red center with brick red rim. The red-fruited nose is a melange of red raspberry, red cherry, and cranberry mixed with a touch of rubber. The palate has great energy with crunchy cranberry and cherry initially, but with air, mint, violets, and spice add complexity. There is excellent acidity to provide verve and a silky texture to this light-bodied wine. The finish has excellent length and pure red fruit. Overall, this is a high-quality pinot noir with depth but also a weightlessness that makes pinot special. Very well done.

This bottle didn't show nearly as well as my other, 18 months ago. That one was delicate, detailed, and almost haunting; this time around the wine seemed to have traded the poetry for a bit of power. There was forceful raspberry-ish red fruit and some spice; these struck me as pretty blunt - there wasn't much change or evolution during or after each sip, or over a few hours drinking the wine, or from day one to day two. I'm guessing it was just in a poor phase. If I had another, I'd wait at least a year. Disappointing vs. prior bottle of this, and vs. recent bottle of Abbey-Harris of the same year.

Nice cloudiness to the ruby red color. This shows a great floral nose with lift from the stem inclusion. Stems are nicely done here. The palate shows a lot more power than other bottlings I've had. Nice deep red fruits backed up with soft gracious tannins. Impressive.

I think this is one of the best domestic pinot noirs I've had in a long time. Ever-changing in the glass, delicious from beginning to end: bright red berries, red flowers, cinnamon, other baking spices, refreshing acidity, impeccable balance. Definitely not stinky/soil-driven burgundy in style, but incredible quality and will only get better. NICE. This was the WOTN for a lot of people over for dinner.

viscous and ever-so-slightly hazy deep ruby. the nose shows a mix of red fruits, subtle cinnamon spice, rose petals and undertones of pine and sap that evoke the 'coolness' of coastal fog and evergreen/eucalyptus. buttressed by just enough acid, rich and full flavors of cranberry and cherry fill the palate with a lingering spice/wood component. hits all the right notes for me. a really enjoyable wine that keeps showing more nuance.

A pure young maiden. Lovely, delicate yet perfumed, silky. Cherry with a little pit, some cinnamon (but not heavy-handed, and I'd say true cinnamon - canela - not the harsher common cinnamon cassia). Enjoyed by all including a lover of big strong reds.

Another killer bottle from Anthill Farms and the Anderson Valley is what they do best. Pop and pour. Really quiet and shy at first. 30mins later and its friendly, expressive and damn good. Still quiet on the nose with some traces of earth and stems, but IIRC they destem 100%. This has the trademark Anthill flavor intensity without weight or impacting its dexterity. Intense darker cherry with bright cranberry and currant notes. Finishes with a touch of bitterness that add to the complexity and balances the fruit. Plenty of juicy acidity and a hint of firmness from tannins on the finish. What a joy to drink.

Popped and poured with a client over dinner at Frankie and Johnny's Steakhouse in NYC. Just delivered to my office a few months ago. This is a wonderful wine that was shockingly approachable despite its youth. Excellent balance, moderate fruit (tart cherry and perhaps a bit of plum) and only very light oak notes with maybe a whiff of vanilla from the oak and perhaps even some allspice. NO COLA or other traditional California pinot funk. Pure and smooth and developed well in the glass and in the bottle as we ate. After an hour it was singing even better. Extremely smooth with no rough edges. The color seemed a bit cloudy, but it's always hard to tell in a poorly lit restaurant, and who really cares - the flavor was great. Anthill Farms looks to be as good as they say, with a great syrah I had last week and a great pinot this week. AND the ABV was only 13.3%, so everyone can like this wine without complaining.

Opened and poured, this gave a similar showing to a previously tasted bottle. The youthful bouquet shows red fruits, spice and subtle earth notes. The color is a vibrant, translucent medium ruby. The medium bodied palate shows good depth and balance with a medium length finish where tannins and acidity are present. This shows well now and could benefit from an additional year or two of bottle age.

Really enjoyable - has the elements I want in a CA pinot - light, silky texture, appealing fruit, fresh acidity. The fruit is quite sweet and has a bit of sap to it. My only quibble is that on the finish, the sweetness to the fruit reminds me slightly of saccharine. With extended air, floral notes and a touch of anise come out on the nose. Some might find this a bit thin, but I find it properly delicate for a pinot. 92, seriously pushing 93 at times - an irresistable wine, and surprisingly approachable now.

Pop/pour - 30 minutes in the glass. Incredibly aromatic, with notes jumping out of the glass. Sweet cherry with just a hint of sour. Spice and florals. Very complex. On the palate, initially this comes across much more open and fruit forward than I was expecting. The longer this is in the glass, the more acidity starts to peak through and give this a better sense of balance. Very fine tannins a long finish. My first Anthill, and a great introduction. 92 points for now, but I suspect this could be worth another couple of points down the road. If I can maintain discipline, my remaining bottles will be hidden away for 2-3 years

Pop-n-pour. Saved half in a halfbottle for day 2 drinking. Open red berry fruit aromas. Powdery vanilla. Touch of bramble. Medium-bodied, suave, but lower in acid than I would expect. Dusty tannins, with very little grip. Seems a bit hollow on the mid-palate. Reasonably complex on the finish. Good effort. Day2: The wine has really opened up, with the body being more fleshy in the midpalate. Really good effort. At this stage, does need lots of air to show its best.

My first Anthill, and a great introduction. 92 points for now, but I suspect this could be worth another couple of points down the road. If I can maintain discipline, my remaining bottles will be hidden away for 2-3 years

Anthill Wine Tasting w/Webster Marquez (Union Square Wines): 30 year old vineyard, high site (one of last pinot's harvested). Ripe strawberry, orange peel. Nice aromatics and floral. A touch tannic, needs time. Very nice.
