Like virtually every Gramercy syrah I've had, this nicely toes the line between New World big/burly fruit and Old World savory restraint. The nose is loaded with smoked meat and olive tapenade. Chewy and a bit meaty and rustic, yet with pretty floral notes, almost like a Levet Cote Rotie. Finishes with peppery, silky tannins. Gained elegance with air on day 2, and seems to have plenty of life left.

Unlike a lot of recent review, I thought this had a lot of life left in it. Out of the gate, so much fruit I thought it was a Paso wine. After an hour of air, everything started to come into balance. Maybe not worth the tariff, but still a good wine.

W smoked pork butt w spicy Korean sauces. Jamie and Greg for dinner. Good combo, maybe a bit too elegant. The rougher 2013 Lagniappe worked better with the food, but the JL was really good, good length and structure. As in my other notes : drink up wont get better and is good now.

No formal notes. This is a seamless, elegantly built wine that unfortunately doesn't deliver the amount of depth one should expect at this price point. It has wonderful savory notes on the nose and palate, but lacks in the fruit department. I don't see any reason to sit on this one.

Next to the 2010 on 4th of July. Taylor/Catherine & smoked ribs. What can I say, just a great wine with abundance of elegance. Good length and fun to drink, the fruit is just wonderful in these wines. Yummy and great northern rhoone comparison. Great fun evening

Well it’s been 6+ years since I last tried this and was tasting some small samples via Coravin and tapped this bottle for a few ounces. Underwhelming was my consensus. Tasted like an “ordinary” $25 Syrah from California Central Coast region.

4th of July wine with smoked brisket - JH / Roosje / Patrick / Colleen. Superb piece of meat and I had it smoked “on the nose”, it was really good. The wine food combo was great. The wine was excellently balanced between fruit - backbone and length. Absolutely great, interesting and balanced. Very comparable to a great Northern Rhone, just great!! I need to do this wine vertically at some point.

Black as night. Great nose. Deep rich flavors, dense mouthfeel, smooth, and the alcohol in check. The caressing feeling the mouth stands out. Love this syrah. ready now with a little air.

Dark inky hue, deep dark berries, twinge of vanilla, full bodied, tart black cherry, well structured, long finish. Great by the fire. Very nice wine; especially in the winter.

Just had this last night with grilled lamb chops. Decanted for 2 hours before drinking. Really concentrated dark fruit, lavender on the nose and strong finish. This wine has years to go in my opinion.

Maybe a bit past its peak. Not as fresh and succulent as previously. Downgrade from 95. Hope it's bottle variation, but I won't be dallying on the next bottle.
1-22-15 note: Bottle 2 of 6; 18 months since #1. Ready to drink, now. Will probably continue to get better. Nose of green pepper and bacon. Flavors are rich, with funky berry, graphite and loam. Finish is a marathon. Absolutely lovely. S would give it a 98.
w veal chop from grill. Absolutely fabulous wine. Darkish color, nice forceful nose of fruit, herbs and spice. Very elegant on the palate, extremely well balanced. This will live very long!! Great long finish, real wine!

No detailed notes taken, but my WOTN at an offline tasting in ATL. Big flavors of olive, mushroom, umami, layered over black blue fruit in a very well balanced, elegant package.

Nose of black olive and garrigue. Big blueberry and blackberry flavors swirl with a herb and a bit of tar and ash. Acidity very much present but in check. No tannins to speak of and the finish is prodigious. 1st of 4 bottles, will be great to watch this evolve.

Superbly integrated fruit, raspberries and cherries, well balanced and surprisingly soft after a bit of time in the glass. Really pleasant to sip, and the only thing holding back the rating points is lack of complexity in the nose; maybe that will still develop before the fruit and acid fade too much.

Lovely wine. Extremely clean with a very interesting flavor profile similarly to the best wines coming out the rocks and Les Collines. An excellent wine with little dislike, excellent fruit, acid and tannin integration. Great mid-palate rolls to a long finish. Drinking well now with a good decant, and I'm glad to have some in the cellar to see how it develops. Exceptional. PDQ94+

Vindredi (Bellevue, WA): Double-decanted 4 hours prior to tasting. Ripe blueberry, roasted meats, and an earthy funk on the nose. Touch of heat, too. Super smooth, supple body. Great fruit (big, ripe, and juicy), earthiness, and umami, with super-fine tannins and an incredible finish that lingers for quite some time. Definitely needs a big decant if drinking now.

Notes from day 2, small taste. Dark purple in color. Nose of seared meat, seared earth, roses, raspberry, olive, lots of stems. Palate of dark raspberry fruit, dark cherries, earth, coffee, tar, stems. The finish was long in length, great acidity and structure. Overall the wine was nice, but still very tight even on day 2. I think these need extended cellaring to really show their stuff as the acidity and structure is fantastic. Hold: 50+5+13+17+10 5 Cudos Brandon, Steve, and Greg.

A Wine Tour of the Pacific Northwest (Brett and Alyssa's - Virginia): I've heard a lot of hype about this wine, and I confess: it is well deserved. I was surprised by how expressive this wine was, as I assumed it would be a tight ball of black and blue fruit. Nope. Aromas of fig paste, plum skins, rose petals, carmelized sugar... and the list goes on. Very vibrant on the palate with fine tannins and a velvety mouthfeel. The acid provides structure and balance, keeping this wine well outside of the goopy or flabby category. The flavors glide over the palate like silk: fig, fresh black cherries, charcoal, chocolate-covered coffee beans... and the list goes on. This wine is incredibly well-made and I imagine in three to five years this wine will be even more complex. Thanks, Brett, for turning me on to Gramercy!

Decanted for 5 hours. This wine is more about details and subtlety than power and concentration. Floral, meaty and brooding on the nose with some tobacco aromas. On the palate, dark fruit, tar and layers of flavors that I just can't find words to describe. Structured but elegant with a beautiful mouthfeel. What makes this wine a 95 in my book is the lengthy finish. Drinking surprisingly well now but I'll wait at least a few years before opening another.

I agree with BinVA on this wine as it certainly was a fine well made wine but didn't knock my socks off. Decanted for about 1/2 hour before consuming, it was very smooth and ready to drink. A good nose of ripe fruit and baking spices with a creamy feel on the palate. No harsh tannins at all. Seems tamer and more balanced than Aussie Shiraz that I am used to drinking but the QPR is questionable.

First Wine Dinner with Friends (Toscana): Had this after some heavy duty cabs. Palate somewhat fatigued so not rated. I would like to comment that I found this to have an incredible nose. A crazy mixture of flowers, meat (I think beef), pine. The palate was well rounded and soft with flavors of olive, dark berry, and hint of chocolate. Tough for me to give a number rating in this context, as it should have been consumed earlier in the evening.

While I can appreciate the higher ratings I can't give the same score. This is a very good syrah. Big, chewy, a little bit spicy and in need of time in the bottle, a year or two. We'll see if that pushes my score up but I don't see this wine as extraordinary at this point.

Oh man, was I excited to dive back into this wine when I got it. One of my favorites and the '09 does not disappoint. On the nose, dark ripe fruit, with a touch of cedar, sage and leather. On the palate, more dark fruit, both red and black, with swirling notes of cherry, raspberry, rhubarb, all pull together with a nice woodsy undertone. This is truly one of the most silky wines out there, with incredible balance and an absolutely stunning structure. And, if that weren't enough, it's the longest finish I've experienced in 6 - 12 months. Unbelievable and a true find for Washington Syrah lovers.
