2002 Bordeaux 20 years on tasting (Fribourg): 2002 Bordeaux 20 years on tasting. Key takeaways: 1/ 31 out of 32 wines were in flawless condition which indicates either luck or less bottle variation in the vintage, 2/ On average still early days with the fruit predominantly primary, 3/ solid hedonistic quality with only few laggards, but also no blow-outs, 4/ structures built on both tannin and acidity, but common mid-palate weakness, 5/ best wines were Valandrau, Palmer and a surprise underdog Lagrange (all 95), 6/ biggest disappointment was a cooked Figeac (87). More comments and full list of wines included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Really pleasant and highly hedonistic nose showing nice floral and herbal complexity, albeit with a somewhat overripe fruit. There was also a bit of earth and mineral notes. Extracted, but still ok and not overripe fruit on the palate which added an element of sweetness.

Weekly tasting group #193; some Bordeaux (@ My place): Just a few words; celery and lovage. Ok acidity, but a bit organic and too old. This bottle has always been stored too warm and probably also upright. So no score; a properly stored bottle will probably be better.

Very pleasant, fully mature, modern style St Emilion. Dark, thick, sweet, juicy, caramel, coffee, plums, black berries. Remote grassy, unripe tones in the nose indicate the vintage. Won't improve, but will last 2-4 more years if well stored.

Fully mature, medium bodied, with juicy, sweet and tart plums, freshness, and hints of leafy herbs in the finish.

Time to drink up, but still nice. Dark red cherries and bramble dominate. Very soft tannins.

This fully mature wine shows coffee, cassis and truffle aromas. There is some green flavors in the plummy finish. Drink up.

A solid St. Emillion. Looking forward to trying the 2003.
