I was surprised by the intensity and domination of the pineapple scent and flavor of this Chablis. It’s a pleasant white wine but without detectable Chablis cut and salinity. Full body, modestly viscous. Good length. Mature but no oxidation or fading.

Portland Paulee (Oregon Historical Society, Portland OR): Oh wow. We're in for a real treat here. This is so defined and fragrant as it fills up the glass with saline, flint notes, pears, apples, crushed rocks, yellow flowers, nectarines, vanilla, tree fruits, and some meyer lemons. The nose here is the definition of layered. Its like you're peeling an onion with each tones becoming more strong as each layer disappears. The Medium bodied feel is silky and deft with crisp, medium+ acidity that still has just the right amount of bite left in it before really leaning into the lengthy finish. This is just a killer bottle of Raveneau. It's right where you want it if you still want just that bit of primary fruit while the acidity has pulled back to allow this to really shine.

Burgundy Grand Cru with either first or last name with initial A, B, F, G, H, R and T: Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mineral, tropical fruits, pineapple, honey suckle, citrus, white flora. High acidity. Long finish. Aromatic on the nose. Decanted for 2-3 hours. At its peak, don’t think it will improve with ageing but will last easily 5 years or more.

The one with Raveneau (Sonder): Bouquet opened with starfruit, pineapples, ripe pear and lilies. Slate, limestone, lemon wax and ripe crunchy fruit (like ripe plums and apricots) on the palate. Excellent weight and density with lovely acidity and structure. Guessed that this was the 2009 MDT but mixed it up with the 2010 Valmur. Thought this was great!

Decanted for 5 hour before serving. Seashell, citrus, white flowers, crushed rocks and lemon peel on the nose. Palate is deep and complex with plenty of underlying material. Perhaps with extensive decanting, the balance between the fruit and minerality is just perfect for my taste. The 2010 Raveneau is really awesome.

Sunday Lunch with Raveneau Chablis and Chave Hermitage (Piccino Restaurant, San Francisco): Pale greenish yellow. Powerful, almost spirity aromas with brothiness and pear. Medium weight, not the biggest wine but gains volume as it warms. Real ripeness and sweeter fruit underneath, but this gives way to fine acidity and a tight, taut finish. The Raveneau wood and hazelwood are on display as it opens. Still quite youthful.

This is a big wine, still now showing its full potential. There's lots of dense lemon custard; this is rich and beautiful but not at all fat. The expected marine note here is subtle for the moment; another 5 years would help. 94+

Meals in France; 4/30/2022-5/6/2022 (France): Popped, decanted, and poured. Charming despite the reduction immediately upon tasting, this turned into a rich, complex, and layered wine. Bright and ripe apple, pear, and quince came and went over time, with the chalky, minerally textures opening and unfolding with more time in glass. Great now, with clear upside. Even better than the 2009 from Monday night.

Raveneau Grand Cru with Maxime Raveneau (110 Taillevent London): During Raveneau dinner with Maxime Raveneau sampling all three GCs 12/10/08/05 at 110 Taillevent London. No formal notes taken. To me in 2010 a vintage where Valmur is not inferior (stupid word really for this wine in general but just as I see it side by side the other 2 GCs) to the Blanchot. Again the highest acidity but here there are honeyed notes emerging that give it such a beautiful balance and make it so drinkable. My favorite Valmur of the night, no doubt.

A very good showing for this wine. Grand cru density and finish. Lemon cream, pear, limestone. Great purity. A little less cut than I expected, but outstanding wine. Ordered at a bistro in Paris; we pay far too much for this stateside.
Aroma is relatively reserved with yellow fruits, flint, wet stone, mineral and sea. Sweet and easy to approach. good structure and balance. Very elegant and full of detail. but not as sharp as I expected.

Superb structure. Quite sweet, sunny, bright. Lots of minerality going on. Still in the baby fat stage; developed more sharpness with time in decanter. Very very soft and balanced on the palate, boarderline elegant. Great potential. 94-96

Grand cru weight, thick; the texture is pleasing. The fruit is yellow. Not at all austere yet far from flabby. Delightful Chablis although just a bit more cut and minerality would be welcome.

Raveneau 2010s are great and starting to drink well. This too was a beautiful wine. Decidedly honeyed, vanilla pod, some good acidic backbone. Delicious and I think in the 2010 Raveneau "hierarchy" for my taste this just pips Montee Tonnerre and Blanchot and sits just behind the mighty Clos.

Stunning, intense nose shows aromas of white fruit, honeyed white flower, iodine, and chalk. The palate is deftly balanced between a honeyed richness and a concentrated minerality that starts chalky before finishing with a saline impression. Round, uniform acidity gives a killer sense of freshness. The 2010 Valmur is drinking wonderfully today.

This bottle is probably forward. Apple, white peach and stone fruit. Palate showed some ripe yellow and tropical fruit, but the acidity was much lower than what a 2010 Raveneau should show. Nevertheless, the length and density of the Valmur were present.

Best bottle to date, the extra couple years has done this wine very well. White flower aromas, super juicy palate with very dense mouthfeel. Mineral and acid keep the package nicely balanced. A champion, but another wine tonight I don’t think I’d identify blind - could be a top tier CC or Batard.

Spring Swing Through France-Random Wines Tasted or Imbibed; 4/14/2018-4/25/2018 (Burgundy, Alsace, Paris): Bright light yellow. Mixed up nose of Chabis tide pool and plenty of sulfur which took time to recede. Eventually, some apple and pear as well. No problem with the broad, voluptuous feel, but I was surpised that there was not more acidity. Hard to read right now, but we could not help wonder if this was not the best example of this. At the very least, it needs a good bit of time to sort itself out and release the sulfur.

Nicoletta's 40th Birthday weekend!; 1/18/2018-1/21/2018 (Megeve, France): Two very consistent bottles here, superb bottles we should say. elegant nose of citrus, light smoky feel and with just a few touches of oak leftovers. The oak is actually more noticeable on the finish with a tocuh of toffee too. Lovely stuff here, very elegant wine , pure , seamless in a way full of charm. It has a pretty solid core of acidity but its polished and blend well with the light sweeter fruit touches. 93-94

Clean, and citrusy on the nose with the youthful Raveneau signature of lemon zest and orange blossoms. This was very tight and closed when first opened at the restaurant and hardly opened up over several hours. Medium weight on the palate, with more zesty lemons, oyster shells, and crisp acids. While this has huge structure, it was also very elegant and understated. We took home the last third of the bottle, and it had barely budged when tasted over the next few days. While this was a pleasure to drink, it obviously needs to be left along for several more years to develop.

Dégustation Raveneau 2010 chez Oenopole: Un nez très expressif, complexe, avec du citron, un coté iodé, qui évoque les coquillages, une pointe d’allumette grillée. Again, here is a super ripe 2010 Raveneau. It has explosive sappy peach and spiced pear fruits along with citrus blossom scents. The palate has layers of orchard fruits and a slight creaminess allowing the drinker to derive much pleasure now. There is a solid core of ‘Valmurness’ buried deep down and I suspect once the flesh of its youth falls away we’ll be left with something more typical, strict and linear.
