At CKH with the Xtremos. Delicate varietal aromas become med- in intensity with air. Viscous mouthfeel. Enjoyed this a lot though I’d probably have enjoyed it a bit more had I opened this one some years back.

This was really a blast for about 45 minutes. Deep golden color-definitely some oxidized notes. But it has a nose of apple and honey and lemon. Uber ripe tropical and orchard fruit on the palate, buffered with some acidity that tingles. It begins to feel its age as it gets air, becomes more of a novelty than something I want to drink a lot of as the acidity and structure fade with time. Good to sip in small doses. Drink up.

Retail $45(?). I bought six bottles of this wine way back in August of 2012 and sadly, this was the last of the lot. And what a beauty. Golden in the glass with definitive signs of oxidation in color, on the nose, and on the palate, but not overpowering whatsoever. What is dominant? Above all the aromatics: white hibiscus, lemon blossom, lychee, golden apple, and deep, intense honey. Yowza. The palate is simply magnificent. Sure, there is the suggestion of sweetness, but the subtle fruit, that slight oxidation, and the incredible richness are the story once past the lips. New World Gewurztraminer producers take note: this is what you aspire to be.
Medium hay in color, bit of a rusty water tinge, has the telltale gewurz spice nose, then quintessential gewurz palate, oozing flavorful spice, with nice streaks of slightly bitter minerality that balance the density and almost oily nature of the wine. This continues to just float along, aging very slowly. I know I have some notes on this dsting back quite a few years, always fun to check on one of my favorite off the beaten track bottles. Might only have one or two left, will try to space them out a few more years.

DnP. Beautiful yellow mature but still fresh looking. Spicy sweetness showing a lot of stuff, exotic fruits, freshness. Impressive very well balanced on the palate, spicy and still fresh. This is in a perfect place now. Complexity of maturity without any signs of fading.

Delightful Alsace gewurz. These wines continue to evolve. Gold in the glass, palate is spice and a cascade of flavors. Good acidity in this year which augers well for an even longer life than normal. Even better gassed and finished two nights later. Two more bottles, and four more from 1998. <sigh>

A friend of mine was stranded at IAH (Bush Intercontinental Airport) and had a few hours to kill, so he took an Uber into town and we popped a number of corks. Golden and rich with petrol, floral notes (jasmine, acacia), and a touch of citrus. The palate proves why one should hold onto Alsatian wines for more than a heartbeat. Fruity, quite tart, and with depths that are rarely seen with whites this age. Whoa. thedrunkencyclist.com

Just about every time I taste an Alsatian Gewurztraminer, I have the same thought: why can't producers of the variety in other regions follow the model of the northeastern France. Gewurz from regions not named Alsace are too dry which makes the spiciness and florality stand out far too much. This wine is close to gangbusters: pineapple and mango on the nose with just a hint of white flower and spice. On the palate, this is certainly sweetish, but far, far, far from unctuous and balanced with a bright acidity and plenty of fruit. A decade and a half out, and this is still crazy good. thedrunkencyclist.com

Nose with ripe lemon, yellow apples, lychee, some roses, some mixed spices (pepper and milder spices - possibly cardamom?), some oily notes, and a bit of developed notes. Somewhat rich and oily palate, but dry, with yellow apple, stone fruit, medium(+) acidity, minerality, some spice, and fine balance. Drinks well now, should keep for another couple of years, 91 p.
Definitely show Gewurztraminer character and mature notes, but in a restrained way, with a lot of balance and freshness. While this (and the dry style) is typical of Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre in general, the 2001 vintage (with its fine acidity) has enhanced this character further, and added even more longevity than usual for this wine.

Delicious gewurztraminer. Lychee nuts and honey. The bitterness that often appears in young gewurz was all gone, replaced by great depth of flavor. Although there was honey in the flavor profile, the wine was not sweet. The spice of the gewurztraminer took care of that. There was some undifferentiated citrus and tropical notes I can't put my finger on. I think I got this when Jean Trimbach was in the US 10+ years ago. I have one more and I would love to hold it and see how it does in four more years at age 20.

This is difficult for me to parse - it's got a touch too much sweetness to really see through to what's brilliant about these wines, but not really sweet enough to do anything with it either, just kind of in between and leaving me with a soapy tropical fat mouthful that's gross tonight.

A bit of color, lots of spice, and a hint of lemon followed by impressive acidity, a touch of sweetness and that Gewurz spice. A dozen plus years out and this is still gangbusters: makers in other countries need to take note--this is what gewürztraminer can be. Like most great wines, the finish here is perhaps the most impressive as it persists for several minutes. Whoa. thedrunkencyclist.com

Perhaps the best bottle of CSR I have ever had. Outstanding. The roughness you get in a young Gewurz is gone. There is the normal flavor profile of lychee and spice. There seems to be a bit of tart apple on the palate as well. The nose is lychee. The color is a bit darker than a young Gewurz. No sugar and no real apparent sweetness. I bought this when Jean Trimbach was in NY about 5-7 years ago. Holding to age a bit was definitely worth the wait. Glad I have more.
Straw to light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of apricot, ginger, flowers and wet stones. Flavors of apricot, peach and red skinned apples. Medium acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold.
Dry, a petrol note that reminds of Riesling, but classic litchi and spiced peach notes. Really lovely, and in a good place. Better than I expected/remembered A-

Une belle surprise à petit prix (30$ au Duty Free de Stanstead) que ce vin évolué et d'une telle concentration. An excellent Gewurz. Lychee nuts on the nose. Lychee nuts, spice and some tropical fruit notes on the palate. Long finish. There was something on the back of the palate that kept this from poking its nose into the outstanding range for me. A bit too sweet and unctious for the spice to really work well. This bottle was a bit of a leaker, but the cork actually looked like a pretty good seal most of the way up. No harm, no foul, the wine was in great shape, with beautifully elegant, spicy fruit, good acidity, some nice apricot pit minerality, no sign at all of age, very nice.

Very nice, petrol and slate, fairly balanced acidity, and relatively low residual sugar; that said, this could have used a tad more acidity to push it over the 90 point hump. Finishes smooth and crisp, making you want for another sip. Went well with raclette and Bresaolo, Proscuitto San Danielle, Prosciutto di Parma, Tuscan Ham, Mortadella, gerkins, and some other bits and pieces.

First tried this 1 year ago & it was one of best Gewurz I've ever consumed... Now it was not quite as lively as last year, but still highly nuanced, sweet on front palate, spicy mid-palate, and clean finish. Time & minimal natural oxidation lent this wine a sweet nose, but its taste profile was perfect for seafood & Asian fare food pairing. Definitely would buy again if possible

My first aged Gewurz. I like how age has mellowed it into a far less aggressive wine than most young Gewurztraminer I've had. Rose and litchi for sure all over. It almost tastes watered down, but far preferable in my palate's opinion to young, hot, loud Gewurztraminer. Served admirably aside Indian.

PnP this 11 yr old Gewurz for dinner tonite. This wine was a bit sticky on the neck and capsule, and the cork showed wine had at some point pushed through (hopefully no heat damage here). 13.5% abv, shows off a medium lemon color at the core, fading to an almost colorless rim, with medium-fast dropping legs. The medium intensity nose offers a spiciness right up front, almost smokiness; followed by rich apricot and lychee fruit notes, drizzled in honey. Smells a bit decadent and very Gewurz-like. On the palate, this wine comes across as quite dry, and the spice once again is at the forefront of the taste sensations, followed by the deep apricot and honeyed flavors, with a very nice medium level of acidity (I would like a tad more), medium(+) body, and very light tannins. The finish picks back up on the smoky spice notes, along with savory and rich baked apricot flavors, leading into a medium length petrol-rich finish that lasts 30+ seconds, which seems at times almost sweet from the notes of honey and the rich mouthfeel. A nice wine overall, took almost an hour to open up and show at it's best. Will likely drink well another 2-4 years, IMHO.

This is good drinking, with a scaled balance of serious sweets and acid, plus gasses that live up to the alcohol. Some marshmallow, camping favors on the mineral side of nature, and lychee on the fruit side. It kept going long enough with each sip that I felt like I was chain-drinking... and that's a good thing.

A recent purchase at a discount price (from a very reputable source), I was a little worried when cork seemed totally saturated. But wine was fresh - dry, lychee and petrol aromas,a tad oily, good acidity for Gewurz, fun. I generally think Trimbach hit it out of park in 2001. B+

Picked this up on sale, looking for a dry Riesling or Gewurtztraminer to go with my Christmas ham. Fantastic aroma, tropical fruit, slight acid on first sip, but quickly smooths out, leaving a crisp finish, dry and clean. Went very well with a salty meal. Went back to the store and bought more.

Slightly damp cork, but provenance was solid right up to popping the cork; more straw through the meniscus to the core, not any honeyed or orange hue; smells focused, if that is possible; I was expecting a little more cloying, a little more slutty on the nose, but there is a mineral/wet stone/blueberry cobbler/watermelon/muted lychee/more deep wild floral nose; having with corn maque choux w/ medium-hot sausage; still has some acidity hanging on, but it is a little more flabby in the mouth than the nose let on; good minerality, almost chalky on the palate, lingering light finish angling toward more spice than fruit; carmelized brown sugar, mint, again, come back to stone and minerality; after 15 minutes in glass, definitely gained some presence; combatting the spice (both flavor & capsaicin) very well now; round stone fruit flavors are showing through, pear and apricot, primarily; very much more serious now, acid is slightly more reticent, but palate is coated with the glycerin & flavor; gets 90 points for the longevity & the fact that I am going to get more bottles tomorrow!

Had this at dinner at Cafe Arte in Cerritos. We ordered the house fried Calamari which was prepared Asian style with hints of ginger and sesame seed. The Gewurtz looked light golden in color. It had its customary medium legs. The Spicy/fruity nose of Alsace. The body was Medium. The wine was textured Silky. And the wine finished Medium. Overall a wonderful experience.

Dinner at Marche Moderne: Great clean aromatics. White fruit, flowers and just touch of petrol. After smelling to wine expected the wine show sweeter. There is sweetness right at the front and a bit in the middle but then it is gone. I really liked the complexity of fruit and spice finishing nice and rigid. But the finish is short. The wine shined with food, particularly the amuse-buche which was a raw scallop with some kind of citrus sauce and bit of candied rind.

Classicially Gewurz, with its rose & lychee aromatics, and unclassicially Trimbach with a touch of noticeable residual sugar, this is a delicious wine that has sufficient weight to stand up to Indian food and yet is not at all heavy or syrupy as Gewurz sometimes can be.

This bottle was a bit of a leaker, but the cork actually looked like a pretty good seal most of the way up. No harm, no foul, the wine was in great shape, with beautifully elegant, spicy fruit, good acidity, some nice apricot pit minerality, no sign at all of age, very nice.

Wow is this young and fresh, lightly golden color, gorgeous telltale gewurtz nose, then beautiful moderately spicy fruit, very fresh and light on its feet, with a nicely mineral/spice finish, unusually good acidity, and impeccable balance. Fabulous wine.

So delicious. Pineapple and papaya on the nose. Apricot and fresh flower on the front palate, citrus and the mid pallet. Just slightly sweet.
One of the better aged Gewurtraminer I've had.
Remember you don't drink the label.

Clearly Gewurz, but on the petrolly/Rieslingesqueminerally end of the spectrum rather than the superLitchi end. Good length, moderate acids, tasty and no hurry on these. B+

Aromas of apricot and peach fuzz. Similar flavors on the full body with a bit of jalapeño pepper. Mouthfeel is just a bit cloying and thick. Very spicy on the finish, a bit too much at first, but the spice factor tones down after a few hours.

Golden colour; low key, fragrant, refined nose, subtle; deft, classic, intense; mature but will age further; none of that clunky feel on the finish that infects so many Gewurz. Beautifully balanced, harmonious.
A finer bottle than last year's.

Beautiful deep golden colour, good nose. Nice mouth feel, not that powerful a palate, picked up some lychee to start with, but that faded as we drank. Probably starting to wane and should be drunk.

This was one of the more memorable Gewurztraminers I have had. Explosive aromatics and great balance. I never got too much of one thing. Nice.
