SUBLIME!

Vertical, dry, some herbs and spice, a very Italian feel despite it's being a Merlot, the origin speaks; seems mature, but in no way old. Refreshing after our intense days in the Rhône.

Still vital, a lot of dark berries and light oak in the nose with a little sweetness. Dark cherries, plum, integrated oak and good acidity. Soft but present tannins. Good balance and body medium plus. A very "easy to drink and easy to like wine", but a wine which is quite straight forward.

Inky black, but the nose is somewhat reticent, there is a subtle black fruit nose with a undertone of roasted coffee. Medium plus to full bodied and medium plus acidity. It's a bit odd to have such a dark fruit profile and such a bright acidity. After an hour in the decanter, it opened up a bit, and became more lush. Very ripe notes of Black plum, black olive, macerated black cherries, hints of tobacco and cedar. Definitely needs some air to open up.

This is really not my kind of wine but it is stupid to say that it is not good. Sure, it's like a slab of meat smothered in caramalised onions, grilled mushrooms, blue cheese sauce and a rich cranberry and tarragon jam but that is what some people like and, given what it is trying to do, it is doing it pretty damn well. It is a bloody big wine, very juicy, meaty and fruity with hints of burnt berries but at the same time fresh and balanced with considerable depth.
That being said, I'll stick to the old school Chi Clas in future.

Very fresh with big blueberry and blackberry fruit. Nice acidity and balance. Leather and floral notes. Long finish with integrated fine grained tannin. Big burst of berries on the finish with licorice notes. Great wine. Sangiovese and Merlot.

I enjoyed this wine immensely. Opened the first bottle along side of an expensive CA cab and this showed to be superior with more depth and balance. Had the second bottle months later and it didn't disappoint. I bought some more and saw that the price had jumped up quite a bit. I guess the secret is out. My wine of the year. This is the highest that I ever rated a wine in Cellartracker. Sorry I don't have a detailed description. Drank both bottles with company and was unable to detail a tasting note, but overall impression was great.

Decanted for 2 hours. Black dense colour. Lovely on the nose, fresh forest berries, toasted oak, strong floral scents with subtle liquorice. On the palate, this is full bodied, juicy, very good acidity, elegant tannins, balanced with medium-long aftertaste. This is excellent. Drink it now.

Bom vinho, pra quem gosta do estilo.

Dark ruby solid colour. Fresh on the nose. Blackberries, plums, not so much earth as expected and not nearly as developed colour/nose as the 1999 and 2001 I have opened recently. Big and long taste, supporting the nose. Moderate tannins, somewhat integrated already but still present. Drinking well now and was good with deep tasting, slow cooked bolognese sauce and pasta. Will match steak even better. Have 2 magnums of the same and will leave for another 2 years or so.

Slight improvement from 2010. Nose still has dark black fruits, mocha, currant. Tannins have receded on juicy palate of plums, blackberries, earth. I think this will get better with more cellar time as well.

Deep ruby-garnet. Upon opening the nose gave way to dark fruits, red berries oak and cooked vegetables and wet leaves/earth. After aeration the strong tones of wood, black cherries, chocolate emerge. Dry, high acidity, high tannins, full bodied, cherries, black pepper, cacao, mocha. Great juice, very well beautiful long dry tannin-dominated finish, well structured and keeps evolving over time. Lovely accompaniment to the oven roasted portobello topped with chopped aubergine/chees and tomato risone prepared by my Francine. DECANT 30 min. Value/money = 7.5 (at 30 EUR this ain't cheap).

This speaks to me of Italy. Ciao Italia. Blend of sangiovese and merlot. Pop and pour and followed over a few hours. This is a dense and rich wine, showing some dark fruits and earthy elements. Quite tannic at this point. Long finish of licorice and pepper. This one will work late on a Friday.

No detailed notes. Pop/pour. Aromatic nose of cherry and tobacco. Relatively soft on the palate, and not super big or complex for the genre. Pleasant, and a bit beyond, but not great. That said, the finish lingers in a very pleasant way. This wine seems to morph back and forth between "average" and interesting. 88-90 points. In general, I enjoy it more than the "88" score. Average QPR. Update: significantly better and more full on the second day. 91-92 points Day 2.

At BWC tasting. My #4, Group #1. Very attractive nose of liquorice, mocha, and graphite. The palate is very smooth, but sweet with notes of blackberries, caramel, and dark plums. A good dollup of acidity to go with fresh finish. A well balanced wine, however I did not rate it as high as the group. I preferred the Torrione.

Boerne Wine Club - Tuscany (Scenic Loop Cafe, San Antonio, TX): Complex terrific nose with blackberries, licorice, currants, and espresso, with a floral component. Round full palate, with enough acidity to pull things together. Has a a much darker fruit profile than the other wines, with black cherry and plum notes leading, with coffee and toast on the back end. Finished with toast and coffee character on a lengthy finish. Looking at the bottle, the 30% merlot component really fleshes this out as it is rather lush and ripe. Drinking great now, not sure it’ll get better.

Dark ruby red colour. Initially a little muted on the nose, showing hints of herbs, crushed blackberries, black licorice, and black plums. Full-bodied, replays from the nose and a bit of vanilla on a slightly coarse palate. Moderate-long finish, ~35-40s with crushed dark fruit and a hint of peach.
Revisiting the dregs of the bottle on the second day reveal a much more perfumed and brooding nose with fresh cut flowers, and a heady scent of black licorice, crushed blackberries, and a bit of alcohol. On the palate, the tannins have integrated a bit more, but should resolved nicely with a little more cellaring.
Merlot provides ample fruit while the structure and acidity comes from the Sangiovese. I don't think there's a vintage of this wine that I haven't enjoyed. Should be nice from 2011+ and drink well for some time after that.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark Hotel, London): Made from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, this wine spends 18 months in French oak. The nose shows red berry fruit, pepper and spice. The palate shows well extracted strawberry, dense liquorice, smoke and white pepper.
