Hard to argue with esteemed collector M Chernino on this wine. From a simpletons perspective, this wine expressed characteristics that one can only lust for more often, but alas will have to be blessed by the higher powers to enjoy over a fine meal and 2 hours of contemplation. The expressiveness is where this wine shows, with raw elemental notes of garden herb, delicate stone, spice and crushed stems, and pervasive stone fruit. The perfume is spellbinding and dominates the palate at this stage. Beautiful but most important unique.

Grand grand vin !

DRC @ WS: Wonderful nose. Exotic with spice and layered texture. I could smell this all night. Palate is full, but not too round. Great weight and balance between the fruit and tannins. 2010 is a special vintage to me. Was lovely on release and is still shining. Fun to compare to the 2010 LT in a later flight as it has very similar characteristics.

Both these young DRCs are characteristically typical in terms of the accessible and wafting nose of stems, florals, and are powerful and with pleasant wood polish. Big projection from both. Surprisingly approachable already. Open and showy. The RSV in particular is fleshy, floral, and already elegant. Can’t believe how drinkable both were, but obviously have a decades long window ahead. The two 2010 Roumiers alongside (Bonnes Mares and Amoureuses) were comparatively wound up and inexpressive.

Casual BBQ Wines: Stemmy, cherry, raspberry, licorice and plum with some ash and spice scattered across the nose. Tightly wound and structured on the palate, needing plenty of time in the glass to show its stuff. Plenty of power but it is shows the poise and class expected of this wine.

Decanted for 2 hours. Stunning nose of sandalwood, spice and red fruits. Very light and ethereal nose. The palate is lithe with a good amount of structure but buffered by deep red fruit flavors and a sublime texture. Drinking nicely at 10 years of age.

05302/13910. Lovely vintage clarity, complex layers, glossy texture, fairly sexy but still closed. Not far away from 10’ LT, maybe only in structure and weight, which this bottle really lacks. Really waiting for the fruity moment that is the RSV shine. 95

2010, Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Burgund, Frankreich. Helles Rubin. 2025-2040+, 19.5 vvPunkte (96/100). vvWine.ch

DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Single blind in 09/10/11/12 flight. Opened 5 hours before serving with a 5 minute double decant. Very rich and spicy with ripe red and black cherry and berry throughout. Hints of complexity emerged after 30 minutes in glass, with black tea and espresso emerging on finish. But clearly backward. Ripeness and exuberant youthfulness made me think this was the 2012

Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago – DRC RSV vertical, Selosse – Lieux-Dits and etc. (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Beautiful harmonious nose displaying perfectly ripe black and red fruit, blackberry, raspberry jelly, delicate caramel, sap, a hint of Vosne spice, sweet spices, a hint of stem and limestone mineral. Perfectly balanced sophisticated palate, very finely layered raspberry and black cherry, silky and weightless, perfect amount of acidity and mineral and a seamless long finish with sap and light caramel at the end. This is the best balanced and most polished wine of the flight. Excellent showing, my guess is the 10.

Extremely youthful and not a hair out of place. Cool, calm and stony. The palate is so even, with a plumpness of fruit and great detail of mineral and floral elements. It has a sensual feel and lingers on and on. Should be absolutely spectacular in a decade or two.

1967 Dinner with FV and Friends: Earthy, stemmy, asian spices, black and red cherry - lifts more with time in the glass, probably improving the most out of the three in this flight over time. Surges across the palate with delicate but deep set red fruits. Really stylish and beautifully poised.

Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Blind tasting is a humbling experience. The clue is from a great vintage. Very sensual and harmonious nose, pure blackberry fruit a hint of stem, incense, lavender and sap. I don’t find much Vosne spices. The palate is incredibly silky and sensual, beautiful detail, layers upon layers of sexy black fruits, perfect amount of acidity and no noticeable tannins. The finish is seamless, pure blackberry and sap at the end. It is incredibly silky and polished, and I am thinking early 2000s, perhaps 2001. Since no Vosne spice, may be Grand Echezeaux; however, our Yoda aka Kelly calls it RSV as he finds a good amount of spice. This is already drinking incredibly well. The palate to die for!

Lazy Sunday group Holiday dinner (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): I love drinking young DRC RSVs as they tend to show lovely caramel note, sap and a hint of Vosne spices even at the early stage. This particular bottle shows noticeable stem. Fresh bright red fruits, fresh crushed raspberries and blackberries, black cherries, stem, sap, mushroom and Vosne spices. Very polished, precise, complex, weightless, harmonious and seamless. Impressive showing.

2010 DRC Tasting: If I could say there was a disappointment tonight, relatively speaking of course, this was it. The nose was very impressive with highly perfumed red and black fruit, roses, violets and a hint of earth and wet stone. Thinner than the Grands Echezeaux, sweeter red fruit, much more refined and elegant. Sleek. Initially, there was an odd chemical note, but this blew off for the most part, but lingered ever so slightly. Medium ++ finish. An outstanding wine, but I expected a better showing given its place in the lineup.

Looks exactly how you think RSV made by DRC should. Ethereal aromatics of sandalwood, white flowers, Asian spice and red and black fruits. So fine and lacy in the mouth with real latent power. Gently builds through the palate and possesses great cut and length of flavour. One of the best young DRC RSV’s in years for mine, fabulous!

2010 DRC tasting (Stockholm): Nose with dark cherries, flowery notes with violets, perfume and roses, some liquorice, spice, some animal notes; very elegant. Palate with cherries, good concentration, fine tart berry notes, powerful mineral notes, well integrated medium(+) tannins of a very silky structure. Young, but somewhat approachable now, 98(+) p.
A marvelous wine with great power, but still with the elegance in focus, that sport where Burgundy is unsurpassed when it is in shape. Another participant described the wine rather strikingly: "the world's sexiest wine". To me this is without doubt a better wine than the Richebourg. Comparing to some of the other, the RSV shows more of a "bass note" to its flowery aromas than Échézeaux and Grands Échézeaux do, and in this vintage shows about the same level of tannin as Richebourg (which was less tannic than usual), but more velvet on the palate. Although La Tâche is an even bigger and probably marginally better wine, I would rather like to retaste the 2010 RSV in the near term, since it provides more pleasure in its current young state.

WOW!!! Fifth wine of tonight’s hedonistic tasting of six red DRC 2010 wines. What a beautiful, perfect perfume the RSV displays! Such beautiful flowers, spices, airy fruit, transparence and femininity. This is just amazing! A touch of gunpowder for the first time in the glass, then it’s all about pure sex! The balance in this wine is unbelievable. Minerals, stones, acidity, bright and red cherries. The fruit profile is unbelievable. The acidity and minerals, the sublime fruit and the depth and length… Has a bit of green stalks in its second or third layers, and a slight lovely complex bitterness on the finish, the finish that just lasts forever and ever. It just goes on forever, and my vocabulary is not advanced enough to describe this is words. This is among the top 10 wines I have ever tasted. And this is more or less just bottled… One can just imagine where this will go. I am in love, completely, up over my head. Again, 2010 Burgundy makes itself heard. 99+

2010 DRC Tasting: The RSV shows a very consistent nose with the previous wines, bright cherry fruit, orange rind and lovely spice. I detect some heat on the nose however, which detracts from the aroma in my book. Bright cherry flavors, full and ripe on the palate with a curious hole in the middle that then leads to a finish showing fine grained tannins that have the most grip of all the wines in the lineup.

The nose is a wow moment, a HUGE step up over the 2010 DRC Grands-Echezeaux; there is a bit more sense of woodiness to this wine, a sense of steminess and also of saltiness, which we saw a lot of when tasting the vintage. The bitter chocolate is here too. This wine has more need of age vs the GE. This wine is a big step up over many of the previous vintages of the RSV, and is exciting.

Beside the 2007 of the same wine it lost out to start with but came around and offered more depth. I could drink this any day of the week! Oh and the nose is to die for.

The acidity and minerals, the sublime fruit and the depth and length…
Has a bit of green stalks in its second or third layers, and a slight lovely complex bitterness on the finish, the finish that just lasts forever and ever.
It just goes on forever, and my vocabulary is not advanced enough to describe this is words.
This is among the top 10 wines I have ever tasted.
And this is more or less just bottled…
One can just imagine where this will go.
I am in love, completely, up over my head.
Again, 2010 Burgundy makes itself heard.
