  • An excellent wine, the Greer 2008 initially seemed a tiny bit blurry to me, but improved tremendously overnight in the recorked, mostly full bottle. Deeply colored, the wine showcases crème de cassis and red licorice, with barest hints of caramel. Ripe, slightly sweet, with firm but well-integrated acids, and a soft tannic structure. Fully mature now.

  • Beautiful fruit core and in a wonderful window to enjoy but no rush..still quite pro-Kmart but balanced, soft, rich and approachable

  • At twelve years old, this beauty remains deep garnet in glass with no bricking. Foundation of dark fruit remains, with emerging black licorice, leather, and forest floor notes. Round and lush.

  • Inky dark red. Smooth silky cassis and ripe plum notes. The tannins are fully integrated. A very fruit forward rather than brooding style. One of the better ‘08 California Cabs we’ve had. Good now.

  • PnP-Tannins present. Slow Ox 4 hours and then recorked overnight. Nice full Bodied with lots of sweet blueberry fruit and mild but present tannins. This has plenty of life left. 95+

  • Inky. Full bodied. Black cherry and black currant fruit. Some licorice and black olive notes on long sweet finish. Big, but well balanced. Easily the best 2008 Cali Cab we’ve had.

  • Drinking it at peak, although it may have further positive development. Personally I wouldn’t wait. A bit of bitterness that fully resolved after a 1 hour decant. Super elegant and restrained, for Napa, I didn’t get a ton of the Rutherford dust, but instead a distinct floral note which really stood out from the typical cab flavors, which are there as well. Fruit is more in the red spectrum than black or purple. I don’t sense any manipulation in this wine, there is an overwhelming sense of purity. Sadly this is my last bottle, would love to have shared it with my wine snob friends as a shining example of what Cali can do.

  • 2008 Napa Cab Retrospective (Fresno): One of my top wines for the night. Very smooth tannin, refined and elegant. At 10 yrs this is in a good place and will likely continue to drink well for another 5-10 years easy.

  • Random Notes From a Saturday Night (Our House (2033 Brandywine St., Philadelphia)): Simply outstanding tonight. The bottle had been in a decanter for nearly 10 hours when we first tried it. Terrific balance. Red raspberry, chocolate and red currant. Smooth and dense but nothing is out of place. Nose is dynamic with spice and darker cherry. One nit is that it a touch syrupy on initial attack, but that subsides. The wine is in a perfect drinking spot right now. There is no real need to hold this although with the fine tannins still present, it should hold here for a good 10 years.

  • Drank along side 2009 Corra and 2007 PM Les Pavots. Clear winner of the group.

  • I guessed cab, red cherry, pure fruit. Thought it could have been a Kapcsandy, very well balanced and hedonistic.

  • Pretty tight on pnp. Jammy, showing charred oak and some raisin. It opened up quite a bit after 4 hours of slo ox. Began to show red fruits initially with brown sugar and then more blackberry and reduced balsalmic. Campfire smoke. A couple more hours revealed black tea and some cardamon on the long finish. Soft tannins with full bodied mouthfeel. Wonderful to share on this night. More complex and full bodied compared to the 2007.

  • Pop and Pour. Huge fruit - a bit stereotypical California Cab. Some heat on the finish. Great nose - Improved with air. Would decant and give a couple of hours next visit.

  • Decanted for two hours, drank over the next three. Multilayered, rich but not cloying, wonderful nose, and a long finish. I wanted to drink this all night. Simply a fantastic wine.

  • Very aromatic spicebox nose is an absolute knockout. The palate shows bright red fruit, but quite a bit of substance behind. Creamy mouthfeel is very pleasant and leads to a long, balanced finish without a sign of heat. Beautiful wine, but shines brightest on the nose.

  • Juicy, but a deep dark core with great structure. Tannins not as fine as some of the better wines we tasted, but this is still quite good. Darker fruit, black cherry.

  • 95+ actually. This is made in a very restrained style by Aaron Pott. I found some of the other notes interesting, in that people were wondering how this will develop. I think it will taste like a bordeaux in ten years. Let's see what happens. Outstanding.

  • I was surprised at how light and smooth drinking this wine was to be only 4 years old. My buddy, who likes Napa Cabs, mentioned he wondered how much he would like this in 10 years thinking there might not be enough fruit for his palate. I really liked this and would like to put it up to some other Napa Cabs and Bordeaux too.

  • Opened and decanted for about 3.5 hours prior to consumption.
This wine is absolutely magnificent. The nose is humongous and almost made me sneeze. Can be smelt across the room with beautiful aromatics. Intriguing notes of flowers and Acai. This drinks much like a 10+ year aged California Cabernet. The entry, mid palate, and finish are euphoric. This wine is clearly Rutherford. Easily one of the best wines I've had all year, and this bottle confirmed my immediate buy on all future vintages of Greer. Glad to have a few 2007 and 2008 vintages sleeping and anxiously awaiting my 2009 order and beyond. If you can find this wine, or are already on the list - consider yourself lucky. Bravo!

  • One of the most delicious wines I have had in a while. Big and rich for sure, put with a purity and grace that surprised. If I had a complaint, it might be that it was a touch sweet, but really, that is nitpicking.

  • In anticipation of the '09 release on Saturday, the wife and I popped a bottle of the '08 this evening.

After a 4 hour decant, this beauty blossomed. after reading my note from april, i have to say it's nearly identical. note modified a bit. high class.

purple with a reddish hue towards the edge. nose explodes as a gorgeous perfume of spring flowers, red more than dark fruit, and chocolate with a background suggesting top soil, brown sugar, and mint to cool the throat. definitely on the feminine spectrum. a bit more coiled than my previous encounter, but still gives up plenty of the goods. fresh, ripe berries in the mouth and again the florals permeate the retro-nasal passage. what makes this wine most intriguing is that the significant floral element, and not the fruit (although lovely and not overdone), plays the lead role. well balanced. soft and silky mouthfeel. tannins a bit more pronounced than my last visit. not plush. not overoaked. not austere. discernibly rutherford, but a very pretty, poised, and graceful iteration of the area's offerings.

while so much napa cabernet is very correct within a relatively narrow confine, this is a wine that is clearly of its origin, but with a great deal of interest that positions itself in a unique way. i a very happy customer and greatly anticipating what rob greer and aaron pott will achieve in the coming years

  • Caveat: I am not a Napa cab guy. Sometimes I get a hankering for a rich, ripe-but-not-too-ripe, spicy cab, but I am by no means a connoisseur.

This is a ripe-but-not-too-ripe cab with fairly smooth tannins, very noticeable spiciness from the oak, and not a ton of acidity. I enjoyed it, but for me it's not enough better than, say, Myriad's lineup to warrant the premium.

  • slow ox'd for 8 hrs at cellar temperature, although rob suggested a 2 hr decant then following in the glass, i have to say, though, that i've become a believer in 8-10 hr slow ox method for young cabernet. this wine was tight when opened, but wow has it transformed...
