Mid-ruby colour. Intense oak spices (almost resinous) with chocolate, ripe fruits, both black and red and some liquorice. Then a touch of acetone, some leather as the wine opens up. The palate holds fabulous concentration, quite powerful with lavish new oak, plenty of spices (Clove, star anise) and a dark chocolate appeal with Xmas cake and some dry compost, almost tobacco and a sort of overripe banana element (like Rioja!)

Decanted for an hour. This wine is in a great place right now. Aromas of red fruit and a bit of earth. Very balanced with plenty of acidity. Not heavy at all despite 14,5% alc. Very elegant and harmonious. No heat. Medium length and a slight touch of bitterness towards the end.

The aromas and flavors match with notes of cherry, cocoa and earth. Medium acid/tannins/finish. Perhaps a bit sweet but I could see that potentially going away with a bit more age. Tasty but not quite outstanding.

Retailer tasting: See also previous note. The bouquet is still reticent. On the palate really pleasant with juicy fruits, some chocolate and fresh acidity. Wait a few years.

An alluring opaque color on this wine with a inky core and crimson rim. It exudes delicate aromas filled with wild flowers, plums, blueberries, cherries, licorice, tar, caramel, truffles, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and discreet vanilla. Very smooth and introverted in the mouth showing copious amounts of sweet plums, blackberries, plums, licorice leading to a midpalate with decent acidity, sour cherries, raspberries, and milk chocolate. The finish is long filled with sweet dark fruits, caramel, sweet spices, vanilla, and creamy tannins. A smooth textured mid to full bodied Barbera that is quite delicious, balanced, but it acts like an introvert.

Popped and poured, tasted double blind. Oh my, toffee, toffee, toffee on the nose, seems very young, some dark fruit peeking through the oak. The palate surprised initially, seemd a bit thin, but with airtime it got much more body to it, soft tannins, quite acidic, bright red berries, with air some sweetness becomes apparent. Quite nice!

Retailer tasting: The bouquet is a bit reticent, but there are some flowers and sweet spices. On the palate juicy fruits, some chocolate, a good balance between sweetness and acidity and firm, but soft tannin. Give the wine until 2014 to open up; it is a nice wine. 90+

Aldo & Giacomo Conterno Dinner (Scopri): Serious Barbera. This is quite intense at the moment, showing some oak on the nose, but the fruit quality here is superb. Dark, serious, and in need of a sleep for a few years. Great wine in time though.

Italy 2012 - Piemonte; 7/8/2012-7/14/2012 (La Morra): Tasted at the winery. Juicy nose with notes of red cherries and plums with hints of oak. The palate is fresh and light with cherry fruit, medium acidity and very little tannin. There’s a little bit of heat on the finish but other than that this is a really nice Barbera. This is aged 14 months in new oak but takes it very well. Can drink now or hold for 3-5 years. Very good.

Again, new french oak on nose. This is a very round and rich Barbera with perfectly integrated acidity. Aged for 14 month new oak - it has a beautiful black berry core with a sweet tea flavor and highly aromatically floral. Nice secondary flavors and aromas of toasted crustini and bitter dark chocolate with sweet cooking spices and vanilla. A very dark Barbera and deliciously done.

Oak, dark red fruits. Significant alchohol taste, was reduced with time.

Sydney Italian Wine Festival - General Tasting: Cherry, clove and berries - not especially expressive. Rounded mouthfeel and it lacks depth for me. Okay only.

Åpen fin nese. Konsentrert mørk og moden frukt, moreller og syltede mørke bær. Animalsk brent. Svært tilgjengelig.
l munnen er den fast i stilen med finkornete tanniner. Godt syrlig bitt. Mørk og moden stil. Konsentrert. Kunne vært lenger.
