Fully mature black berries and baking spice galore with lots of nuance unfolding over the course of the evening. Seemed slightly whole cluster dominant to me.

Significant bricking on the rim. On the nose and palate, the fruit is still fresh and pure, framed with that special Skyline spice. For me, Skyline vineyard produces some of the most balanced and precise wines in the Rhys lineup. Drinking beautifully; delicious!

PNP. Orange peel, cherry, sandalwood and Asian spice on the complex nose. Lithe palate, deeply flavored with cherry and raspberry yet silky and slightly grippy. Medium acid and shows some secondary flavors, but should hold for some time. Seems to have a good percentage of stems included, this wine is a very unique expression of California Pinot (and consistently my favorite domestic Pinot)

Opened, poured a glass and let it sit for a bit. Then followed the wine over about 4 hours. Garnet-burgundy color. A bit cloudy. Has a dark fruit and earthy nose, cherry and touch of mushroom. With a little more time and exposure to air, I find dried orange peel along with the cherry. Dark fruited on the palate. Has a woodsy note mixing in with the fruit. Delicious.

12.6% abv. Medium burgundy red, very aromatic. On the palate, raspberry, cranberry, cinnamon, and mint. Very deep and long. Precise, focused, and very lively - great tension. This wine is positively soaring at this moment, but appears to be in a nice, long and wonderfully rewarding drinking window. The best Rhys Pinot I've ever had and also the longest aged - I think there is a correlation!

Wonderful, complex nose of earthy raspberry, earthy cherry, mushroom, and some orangey citrus spice. The restraint is part of the charm, but there's an apple skin flatness in the middle palate that limits the appeal away from the table.

Perhaps this was a slightly off bottle or suffering badly from the long travel? It failed to impress me, but was still obviously a fine drink. I simply had higher expectations! Showing somewhat candied notes despite it's 12,4% abv and not as pronounced intensity or rich body as the two it was paired against. I feel it stood out as American, though in Greg's defence, he brought it on my wish.

Cinnamon, sandalwood and citrus on the nose. Very lithe palate with some clenching tannins and light raspberry fruit. I believe this is 100% whole cluster and the the stems show up on the palate as a little obtrusive even for me as one who loves whole cluster burgundies. Low alcohol and a very beguiling palate presence. This Pinot has a unique style that is a fascinating example of terroir in California.

Decanted 2 hours. Matched with grilled wild sockeye salmon and tortellini salad. Drank in a Zalto Burgundy stem. 12.4% alc. The nose has some pepper, spice and forest floor. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. Incredible balance..."Zen like." The wine finishes long....and is definitely a "food" wine. Explosion of flavors with food, "tight" without. Better to hold your only bottle but no regrets uncorking with decant! Bravo Team Rhys...

Rhys Tasting With The Gang (My House): This was spicy, with dark cherry, herbal and tangy, zesty. Tart. So little of this made and my only bottle, not sure if I will have the opportunity to taste this again in the future.

Tasted the '07, '10 and '11 all together in a single flight. My first time with the Skyline wines, and they were all outstanding and so far my favorite of their vineyards, slightly edging out the 4 year '06-'09 Swan Terrace vertical.

April 2012 Rhys Visit--Taste The 2010s (Rhys Estate (At The Winery)): Added to the database and what a treat to be the first one to log a note here. Listed alc of 12.4% with 100% whole cluster and 50% new wood. Shows beautiful aromatics, quite floral. Some decadence in the bouquet but like the 2010 Home pinot, the stems are beautifully woven into this wine already. Perfect balance and yet there is also weight here. Strawberry, raspberry, elegant and even. Just a complete wine with acid, flavor and minerality. This is a helluva wine.

Rhys in Atlanta (Aria, Atlanta, GA): The most open of the Skylines at first, explosively aromatic, complex, but with tons of structure. Revelatory.
