Very nice bdx in early maturity. Fine darker profike fruits with some cedar notes mixed in. Palate is showing dark and bit heavy with rather coarse tannins. Lengthy mesty finish. Not an elegant vintage but well put together. On the more powerful if brutish side.

A blend of 61% CS and 39% Merlot, wine is aged for 17 months in oak, 50% new. Deep garnet colour, ruby hue. Medium intensity elegant aroma of cherries, spices, dry leaves, black currants, plums, blackberries, licorice. Medium body, elegant and gentle structure with persistent flavours echoing aroma, earthy and dry leaf touches, exemplary well integrated acidity concludes with fine grained tannins and lengthy finish.

My first d’Issan, exploring Margaux: blackberry, black currant, clove, earthy, dried black fruit, soft chewy tannins, medium plus body, good long finish. Will improve with some more years in the cellar.

Bordeaux 2011 - 10 Years On - 30 Reds: All tasted blind, not decanted. A few observations: 1) As expected, it's a mediocre vintage with many wines lacking depth and mid palate weight of great vintages. My average score for the reds was 91.3 pts vs group scores at more recent horizontals for 2010 (93.0), 2000 (92.7) and 2009 (93.9). 2) I expected more green/unripe notes and drying tannins but that is not the case (hence the solid 91.3 average). Most wines showed well-made (with only 6 out of 30 reds rated below 90 pts). 3) Left bank (average 91.8 pts) clearly trumps right bank (90.6) thanks to more mid palate substance. 4) Virtually no wine showed a) over extracted and already dying and b) with far too much ripeness. Both 2009/2010 (and 2015/2018) have several wines with these problem. 5) Most wines are in a good drinking window. Although not yet with tertiary complexity, the structure has softened and the wines are open (even without extended decanting). 6) Unfortunately (due to price), the best reds were Le Pin (97+ pts), Margaux (96), Petrus (96) and Mouton (95). 7) Good vintage for Sauternes it seems (we tasted only two) with a surprising Giraud (96 pts) beating a too sweet Yquem (93).
TN: Medium plus expressive nose but quite particular and a bit stinky. Enough for me not to dive further into the wine. No winner (...and not rated tonight).

Wow, this is a sleeper and drinking well now! Very much Margaux tipicity.. Opens with wed forest, dark and bing cherries, and toasted oak. Elegance and flavor impact. Has developed and caressing, soft tannins. 2011 Vintage seemed to be working well for Margaux Apppellation; for current drinkability with any greenness gone. This Chateau has really made great strides as of late. Drink or hold

Deep purple burgundy color. Nicely perfumed nose. Medium body. Very balanced with mid-level tannins and acidity. The fruit is fairly restrained with flavors of blackberry, licorice, pencil shavings and a touch of clove. In its drinking window with another 5-7 years before any decline. Not a prodigious long term ager, but a very pleasant and lovely traditional Bordeaux. Decant for sediment.

Decanted for 3-4 h. Dark color. Nose: Chocolate, smoke, hint of unsweetened dried fruit (black and maybe blue) and mint. Palate: drying tannins, dried herbs and dark berry fruit, more stone/tar than organic earth, good tart acid. A drying red with very little fruit. Could use more time in the bottle...I would leave in the cellar for at least a few more years.

An easy afternoon with close friends (@ BV): A firm dose of new oak and vanilla in the bouquet. On the palate red and dark berries, earth, licorice, bell pepper, juicy acidity and firm bitterness. The wine is still too young, but already a pleasure to drink. For today 91+

Bigger, fuller bodied than most 2011s I've had so far. Nice red/black fruit, but the strong tannins are a little out of balance with the fruit right now, even after plenty of air.

Honestly I had higher expectations here, color was dark closer to ruby than purple. Finish was medium and the nose was solid but not deep and enchanting as I have found this Vineyard to be in the past. Perhaps it needs time, perhaps it is the vintage. Liked it but better bang for the buck in my opinion.

Drinking great after 30 minutes. Full bodied but not heavy. Classic perfumed aromas. Layers of spice, anise, and black cherry and currant. A very good showing for the vintage.

(Decanter FWE 2016) :: Perfumed, feminine and expressive. Floral, decent complexity of fruit with a notable leather and earthy core. Nice "bite" on the palate, with very fine tannin and lovely freshness. Med+ finish.

Rather accessible for a five-year old cru classe Margaux. Some rather delicate aromas of blueberries, violets, spices, and a hint of cherry; but on the palate the fruit (such as there is -- this is clearly a Bordeaux and not a particularly ripe version) tends towards plums and other darker fruits. Acidity to my palate was fairly prominent, adding a not-displeasing sour cherry note. Tannins are moderate and this can be drunk now or over the next 10-12 years.

Decanted at Del Friscos for 1/2 hour. Already drinking nicely. Nose definitely old world and starts with some nice terroir. Medium bodied for a left banker but not as much fruit as I would have hoped. Easy tannins so maybe due to the vintage. Nice contrast with the 2013 Foley Griffin (huge) and the 2012 O'Shaughnessy - Howell (great) so was overpowered a bit...but I liked it. Will probably buy the 2012 with the new Parker rating and Cellar Trackers latest ratings.

Nose of red fruit (cherry, rhubarb, raspberry) backed by hints of black fruit and charred oak. Very light-bodied, with mild flavours of blackberry, lemon, and rhubarb. Berry flavours become more powerful with time.

Nose was slightly floral and of cedar and light sous bois. Palate had silky tannins and a medium body of dark berries. The finish was elegant and moderate. A very pleasant wine and drinking quite well at this point. Note: The wine is still a product of this vintage and the flavours were not that pronounced and distinct. The palate was still a little weak.

Just a quick assessment: Clean. Clear. Somewhat shut down, dark fruit and some oak, medium intensity. Tight, bit wound up, fruit is ripe, but there are noticable drying wood tannins. This needs a fair bit of time. The finish was a bit short.

Leafy, forest floor, cedar and cassis aromas, medium bodied, accessible and forward, you can drink this cassis and olive filled wine young, while waiting for the 2010 and 2009 to develop.

From a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon and 39% Merlot, which represents 57% of the harvest with yields of 36 hectoliters per hectare, the wine reached 13.23% alcohol and will be aged in 50% new oak. In the nose, earth, coffee, licorice, blackberry and truffle scents. Soft, round and filled with fresh black and red fruits, this is a charming style of d’Issan. 91-93 Pts
