Shear's Holiday blowout 2021: Complex notes of blackberry, menthol and a floral component. Has the seamless palate that is a signature of SQN wines. Just a treat to take in. I could smell this wine all night.

No decant pop n poir through aerator and maintained at 60 F. Rich dark fruit, roasted meat, white pepper, lavender and sage. 20 to 30 second finish. Nose of camphor and incense. Still young but drinkable with some air. Stunningly complex. Closed up after about 2.5 hours with tannins emerged. 96 now 97-98 in a few years. Reminded me of a top Cote Rotie.

8th Annual Holiday Dinner and Cellar Raid - A Month Late (Naperville, IL): Part of wine dinner and cellar raid so did not take detailed notes. Rather than wait until late in the night to bring out the ringers, we chose to start right off the bat with the SQN Next of Kyn to start the cellar raid. I really do wish I took the time for more detailed notes. This was as perfect as a wine could get. I have never given the 100 score, but thought I'd start with this one. Easily the WOTN most likely the best wine i've had the pleasure of tasting

Always a special day when I open one of these from any year. This was one of my oldest. Velvet is a word used to describe wine. This fits that description as long as the velvet imagined is silk.

Wife's 40th Bday Bash. When your significant other celebrates a milestone, Next of Kyn is obligatory given its legal and layman meanings. The Krankls no doubt had this in mind, aiming for the pole position of wines for martial felicitations, to add to their lasting legacy. LOL.
Opened 2 hours before dinner, an explosion of notes floated out the bottle, smoked game, black and blue berries, graphite, coal shavings, stone, shrubs. A gorgeous magenta, mauve, jam hue to this, in contrast to the brighter red of an SQN counterpart.
Served from the bottle, very satisfying flavours of chocolate, leather, burnished smoked meats, autumn leaves and stewed plums. One way to describe it would be it is more mellow than its SQN cousins, but this doesnt mean in any way that it is less beguiling or enjoyable - it inhabits different dimensions. Kind of like Picasso and his blue paintings.
Long and beautifully resolving finish. Super smooth and silky. First NOK to taste and definitely wont be my last.

Deep bright purple; very floral, sweet purple fruit, a nod to Northern Rhone but unapologetically New World fruit, loads of flavor with light body on the finish, nice refreshing acid.

Classic iron fist in velvet glove. Great nose. Very light on its feet during the upfront palate. Smooth and seamless without sharp edges. Super long licorice finish. Wife loved it too. Didnt drink side by side but I suspect that it is slightly less powerful than comparable extended aged SQN but may be more complex. Didn't need more than a hour decant.

Another stand out wine in a very impressive line up and the only syrah. Still very young but drinking really well courtesy of a super long decant. Big and muscular with with black fruit, savory meat and spices. Super long finish - awesome!

Darkly colored, this is loaded with sweet, smoky, black and blue fruits, licorice, spice and hints of flowers in the aromatics. Plush, lush, fat and juicy, while not as packed and stacked as Sine Qua Non, if you're an SQN fan, you should be digging this.

Big brawny wine. Still too young to drink. Give it another 5 years or so.

This is a phenomenal wine and stood out as such in very steep company. Its is still a baby to be sure, but with 4 hours of decanting it was all there.

Tampa Spring Break (the second); 2/17/2017-2/19/2017 (Various spots (homes, Mis en Place, Capital Grille)): This wine is just straight up slutty (but in a good way). Lots of meat and spices and fruits and every time you sip it it's a different wine. I believe was opened and decanted a few hours before pouring, but this wine was still making major evolutions in the glass. Super fun to drink.

KenK's BDay (Wildfire Chicago il): Out of magnum and decanted for an hour. Not my style. Very plush, voluptuous and jammy fruit. No real definition.
