Great red fruit of red raspberries on the open; early in the glass, very nice. QUICKLY looses its flavor into a black fruit mess. We have three more and will drink quickly with close family and friends.

Mostly Yakima Valley fruit, from numerous parcels; just 10% new oak. Decanted and showing light sediment. The nose reveals a mixture of blueberry, boysenberry, marionberry and plum that weave in notes of cassis and vanilla with violet pastilles, lavender, baking spices, pastry, velour and hints of cocoa, anise, sandalwood and pepper. The palate shows tart acidity and moderate tannins. There is good weight and density on the palate with flavors that show of marionberry, blueberry compote, cassis, Danish pastry, violet pastilles, vanilla, baking spices, anise, pepper and hints of cocoa. The spicy, mouthwatering finish lingers.

P&P, paired with chicken enchiladas. Nose is over-the-top fruit bomb with a dusting of black pepper. Doesn't match up with the palate however...much more relaxed on the fruit side, with blackberries showing prominently, along with a bit of black plum. Lots of pepper as well, finishing with blackberry pie w/vanilla ice cream. Drink now - 2018.

Decanted and Vinturied, but it still felt a bit restrained and tight. The nose was dominated by black pepper, tar and earth, with hints of lavender, blueberry and plum. The palate was much more fruity, notably cherry and blueberry, along with blackberry, bitter chocolate, coffee, anise and steel. Acidic, but not tart, and not really tannic. All in all, it tasted very purple.

Decent nose of dark fruit flavors (blackberries, dark cherries, plums) and faint notes of chocolate. Palate smooth and mirroring the nose with a savory feel; the fruit flavors are more present, yet restrained and not over-extracted. Decent acidity and alcohol is mostly in check with soft, smooth tannins.
For a new world syrah, this wine feels more restrained and lighter in expression. Definitely not an over-extracted, over-oaked fruit-bomb, perhaps due to the cool vintage. A bit straightforward and not the most complex syrah, but this bottle is drinking fairly well and the components are well balanced.

nose: campfire on a musty, foggy night, firs, dirty pajamas and all (after a good decant. before it was very grapey and round). there's a vague notion of 'berry medley' or just 'fruit', whatever that might be, but it's there along with some citrus.
palate: high-toned berries, lemon. savory, meaty, grippy. pointed acids. prickly tannins. tons of minerality in the long stony finish. probably needs more time but is drinking p great.

Quick take here - Quite a well made wine from what was probably a severe fruit selection. Lightly tarry and smoky Syrah with a clean, pure core of juicy black fruit to bring it into balance. Shows delicate length with subtle tea notes very very late on the finish. Very good balance right now but still a bit youthful, lay down for maybe 2 to 3 years to really get into it's drinking window. Love this winery.

Almost like a cross between a Beaujolais nouveau and a syrah. Really just not a great syrah. I had such high hopes based on the reviews but I didn't even want to finish the bottle.

Dense, black-peppery aromas of blackberry and plum preserve along with hints of lavender, violet and vanilla. Meaty, intense and round on the palate, peppery and slightly charred and bitter, with just a little acidity. Very Northern Rhone in flavor, with new world ripeness. ✭

I'm not in the habit of incorporating by reference tasting notes of others, but in this instance, I will simply commend you to the excellent tasting notes of Motz. Indeed, the only addition I would make to his notes is to comment that an extended decant reveals some serious coffee and chocolate aromas and flavors. A great showing from a challenging and some would say disastrous vintage (2011) in Washington.
After breathing a couple of hours this wine was catching my attention. More Northern Rhone style, dark fruit with elements of iron, meat, and herbs. Good finish. Very Good- Recommended.

A stunner! This followed the 2012 Sinister Hand at a tasting; it is markedly better, and the Sinister Hand is no slouch. This wine features an attention grabbing nose of savory elements, pepper, garrigue, Mediterranean herbs, tar, red meats, licorice, and dark berry fruit. All these elements appear prominently on the richly concentrated palate. Additionally, the wine shows great textural depth, excellent minerality, and a long, complex finish. Wonderful oak treatment, balanced alcohol. This wine puts the mind to warm vintage Côte-Rôtie. 92-93.
100% Syrah. French oak 10% new, 16 months. Nose is lush fruit. Very smooth, delicious, finish lingers with red, black, blue layers. Spice note not strong. New World style crowd pleaser and another winner from Owen Roe.

No harmony yet, hopefully in time. Dark, deep spicy nose, but not alot of dimension. Flavor profile cut a wide swath of heavy fruit, and kinda flabby. Some astringency in finish that wasn't a great thing. I enjoy this wine every vintage, so just hope that was a outlier freak weird bottle. Maybe just needs to settle down. I'm going to wait a few months to open another bottle and see.

Dark burgundy colored wine with dark cherry hues and a watery rim. Showing medium-plus viscosity, day bright reflections and moderate concentration. Upon opening aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and dark chocolate present. As the wine evolves with air time (recommended) notes of black pepper, violets, bramble, smoked meats and mineral are evident. On the palate tight compacted flavors of cracked black pepper, blackberry, violets, lavender, pomegranate, black licorice, sassafras, wood, smoke, raspberry and chocolate ganache that are met with moderate-plus acidity and gripping tannins. Density remains on the mid palate and through the finish that is moderate-plus in length and intensity and lingers on cinnamon stick and boysenberry. Young, but showing that this has what it takes to mature into something even better! Darker and more brooding than the '11 Lady Rosa, but equally as enjoyable.

Good, not great. We tasted the 2012 and 2011 versions side by side and the consensus was that the 2012 was fuller and tasted better overall.

Intense blueberries and cream. Not terribly complex but soooo delicious! There's just a touch of savory on the sweet lingering finish.
