Rost bif demands claret! This was just what I needed after a 2 day debauch with Chateauneuf de Pape.
Colour is true 'Clairet' - quite light, ruby but there's a darker core and don't be deceived.
The nose is cassis, wine gum, a hint of tobacco and cedar. It also suggests some underlying power.
Palate is long, intense and sends shivers down my spine. This is what I love in Cabernet. Worth noting that the tannins are very fine and almost fully resolved - there's a velvety mouthfeel here. The acid is still fresh and carries the wine beautifully. This is a complex, beautiful creature. I wonder if the negative review from this year was an example of a bad cork closure, or perhaps expectations of a more typical Oz blockbuster style?
This wine takes me back to what great Bordeaux was before Parker stuffed things up. Wonderful wine.

Very light body for a Cabernet based wine, it lacked punch, definition and of minimal enjoyment. Yes, you get to experience the primary flavours and some secondary characteristics, but without the energy and zest, what is the point? If you are being generous, you can call it different. The most disappointing thing was the wine did not have the structure or acidity to improve. Ageing it is not going the help I don't think.
I have several bottles so I will leave them for a few more years but don't have high hopes.

Had taken some hrs to open to a medium bodied Cabernet blend, still restrained, cassis spice tobacco , graphite drying tannins in back palate- long after taste Complexity and intensity are at a moderate level relative to first growth Cabernets from Margaret River of the same vintage

Liquid velvet. My first Quintet. Won’t be my last subdued nose and length but one of the smoothest easy drinking tasty wines I have had. Has the hint of complexity. The fruit has matured perfectly. Get one !

At the Mount Mary Dinner, Stokehouse Q. The last in a Quintet line-up this is again a lovely example if leads intense than the very best. The colour remains a clear but deep crimson with a lovely nose of cassis, dark cherries and plums, cedar and touches of violet. The palate is mid-weight with very good balance and transparency leading into a fine tannin finish. It is is perhaps less intense than other years tasted tonight but a lovely food wine with balance and complexity.

Sursøtt, ikke veldig mineralsk, litt alkohol, forsiktig fat, mye syre og mye struktur. Mye fruktsødme, litt anonym. Ingenting stikker seg ut. Litt anonym. Litt spices. Ingen klarte å plassere hverken drue eller land. 2010 Mont Mary Quintet. Mye utviklet. 90

Looks slightly advanced for it's age maybe but I can't vouch for the storage conditions. Cork held up well anyway. Just has a brownish, bricky colour pouring it into the decanter. Smells fantastic though. All peat and earth, moss, camphor, lots of classical claret aromas of cassis, tobacco, truffles, exotic spices... heaps going on aromatically. Such a deft touch on the palate, silky and dry with a very fine, sandy tannin structure. Length for over a minute... Such a classy wine. Outclasses a lot of the Bordeaux wines I've tried.

Angelica wine club - Bordeaux (Strand Cellars, Croydon): "sweet red and black currant fruit, biscuit/toast, herbaceous notes…young nose. Juicy, slightly sour, red over black fruit. Simple. Young. Has that redcurrant thing that I don't really like from Australian Bordeaux blends that are harvested early for freshness. This and the previous wine were revealed as Australian I called this as Yarra Valley 2014"

Some blinds and non-blinds (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Extremely potent menthol and green on the nose and palate here. The fruit, though, shows really nice restraint, as well as some really strong acids. My gut guess was that this was a weaker-year Bordeaux wine, from a producer that showed a relatively light touch on the oak. Quite nice, but the relative paucity of fruit made me think that this was much older than it was (I was thinking late 90s).

Mount Mary New Release Tasting: Redcurrant, graphite, earth, cherry, cedar and blackberries on the nose. Well balanced on the palate, this has very good texture and control. The structure consists of fine tannins and good acidity against the nicely juicy red fruit. Good length. In an in-between spot, but certainly better than a bottle I had 4 years ago which was overly herbal and green.

At the annual winery allocation tasting day. A couple of back vintages available for tasting along with the 2014. The 2012 was not to my liking but the 2010 is terrific. A little bottle age is adding some complexity and weight to the perfectly ripe fruit. Nicely balanced with decent length this is an excellent medium bodied cabernet to enjoy for another decade as it will only get better.

Underwhelming for its reputation. Well constructed and perfectly pleasant. But nothing more than that. Lacks complexity or depth on the palate. One dimensional.

NobleRottersSydney - Langtons Classification (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {diam, 12.7%} I’ve only had a few MMQs made since the death of Dr John a decade ago; I haven’t noticed any great change in style. This was decanted for 90 minutes before tasting, and did it show. The nose was all ripe Bordeaux; great currant fruit, cedar oak; all with exquisite polish. It’s medium-bodied, with just-medium powdery tannins, perhaps not quite of first growth texture, but pretty impressive anyway. The flavours are all herbs and ripe fruit; it’s no monster (per tradition) but derives its impact from the endless finish and sense of integrity. So even, so balanced. Seriously gorgeous, and better in 5 years, without doubt. Wine of the night I think.

This is a pretty and well made wine. Balanced, decent structure, but for the money and reputation I expected either (a) some tannin structure OR (b) weight of fruit OR (c) complexity OR (d) crazy aromatics. This had none of the above. Slightly bewildered and underwhelmed.

Langton's Classification Tasting (Carraigeworks, Sydney): Vegetal, with little fruit power. Light and with very little depth to it. I thought this was poor and it was a disappointment as I usually love the Quintet. Hopefully a sub standard bottle?

Excellent balance, classic claret style. Still the best Cabernet blend in the country. Silky and elegant has all the components in sync even at this early stage. Destined to be a classic.
